Took my grandson to Hillsboro on Saturday..........could you.?

No problem at all....... I offered to take my Owl mate who had cancer , in the end we didn't make it I regret to say . Family & friends are always first 👍.

Under those specific circumstances it would be a immature dickhead to have a pop at you over it.

I have to go to Elland Road to see Leeds United who my wife supports. When they play us have to keep quiet when we score whilst secretly inside I`m doing cart wheels. Elland Road pies are 100% better than the BL ones though. Silver linings and all that.

Worst ever was when my wifes mate wanted to go to Leeds v B'ham and we had to sit in the away end as wife's mate supported B'ham. Leeds won too. It was horrendous. Had to walk through a bit of a gauntlet on way out as Leeds fans trying to throw stuff at B'ham fans. Scary as hell that was.

Things we do for love.
 
Last time I went as a neutral to that shithole,the Kop was a mass of Villa supporters who had took over the whole lot. Haven’t got grandkids,so I’ve spared them that horrific ordeal.
 
My grandad was a staunch blade, hated Wednesday with a passion but when i was a kid growing up (and football wasnt on TV) he'd take me to hillsborough to watch them play Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs etc etc so i could watch some good footballers (Barnes, Beardsley Hoddle etc). Hed also take me to reserve games of both teams for similar reasons when someone decent was going to play. Just what being a good grandad does. Im sure your grandson will have loved his grandad taking him to the match

No apologies needed, was on there on, That BOXING DAY, with our 14 year old daughter, Fucking Horrendous place to be. Packed in like sardines first half, just a few yards in on terracing. Come half time and realised there was a stack of clear space at the front. OK then, except for the result.
 
Well done for putting your club loyalty aside and concentrating on your grandson.

I've no aversion to hillsborough although not been since the Bobby Davison night . ( unless the Glyn hodges sending off night was after that )

The whole aversion to going in the place is weird to those of a certain age .
Living that side of town if the blades were away as a young teenager you could pay on the day for a couple of quid and go in the away end. Watched waddle make his debut as sub being a Geordie for the afternoon and watched the famous 4-4 as a chelsea fan , although that night got escorted from the old stand to the away end as it was full of chelsea and just went with them .
Just something to do at the time.

Also watched my first cup final there , villa v Everton league cup reply . Always had a soft spot for villa since then .
Remember just going down there on the day of the hillsborough disaster, must have been 17 or 18 and driving by then , ferried Liverpool supporters up to the NGH who were bewildered and lost family and friends in ambulances


Times are different now and not been in years .
Probably hasn't changed much.

Of course I would do that and well done to you for doing so!

My old company used to have the corporate season ticket so I ended up going a couple of times for that too.

Unfortunately it was the season they did quite well, so was one of either 2015/16 or 2016/17 seasons
 
Health and family always come first above football. Thankfully I have ensured that scenario will never happen. 3 of my 4 daughters are Blades, grandkids are Blades. Eldest in the North East never followed football until grandson played for a local team and he now follows Villa and Liverpool.

Other halfs family are mainly closet pigs never go unless its a glory day out at Wembley or first and last game of season only to boast how many fans attended so that they can get their seasons badge of honour. Never short on giving stick when we lose, not seen for weeks when they aren't winning.

As a 14 year old I decided to see what the fuss was all about and watch a game that didn't involve United. Went on my own against Chelsea. Stood on their Kop and witnessed Chelsea skinheads battling with Pigs. Result a draw. Took an interest in the clothes the cockneys were wearing. Proved fruitful as within a year I'd had my haircut and my interest in clothes, music and girls of a similar persuasion took on a new meaning.

Pigs won game 1-0 but it was dull as was the whole experience. It just didn't feel right. It was on the other side of the city to where I lived, there was no sense of belonging unlike BDTBL. All it did was confirm to me that the gobshites on our estate who were of the S6 persuasion had a large number of similar minded cousins in a far away foreign place that wasn't Sheffield to me.
 
You did the right thing by the grandson.

The funny thing is that my in-laws are pigs and I know for a fact that they wouldn’t do the same for any of my kids the other way, sad really.

They did ask a few times when my eldest was younger if he could go to a match with them and I said he absolutely couldn’t, petty maybe but he was a Blades season ticket holder so I don’t even know why they’d ask. He always said he wouldn’t go if they asked him but that was probably for my benefit.

I told them they could come to BDTBL if they wanted to take him to a match so badly and they declined.

His grassroots team also had a ‘flag waving day’ at the Sty and he declined that as well. He definitely gets his stubbornness from me.

The only time I’ve been to a match at the Sty apart from a Blades game was for Euro 96.

Very difficult one this! I'd offer to take him to the Lane first and see what he said. If he refused then I'd be tempted to say could you go to Hillsborough for the next home match instead with your dad maybe?! Impressed you took him though, family over football and all that derfblade.3 !

The last minute equaliser would have made the day for much sweeter I imagine! If I did go I'd go in the grandstand top tier assuming it's open as I'd guess there's less up there at the edges so I didn't have to be near any Wednesday fans other than grandson!

I'd really find it hard to go to Hillsborough unless I was in the away end! I've gone and supported other teams in the away end a few times actually!

Dont feel guilty though! It is only football and all that.
 
Of course I would take my grandson in your position, especially if he had autism which means that he needs a little extra support. I wouldn't be over the moon about setting foot in that shit hole but it certainly wouldn't stop me going if that is what my grandson wanted. Of course, just would be laughing my tits off as the 96th minute goal went in, but that's fair enough imo. I'd still be trying to change his allegiance though, through stealth. But you should be pleased with yourself that you put your family first. I would, every time, and I detest that football club with a passion.
