I took my 14 year old grandson to the Sty as his dad who is also from the dark side, had to work. My grandson has a form of Autism so needs to be with someone when he goes out although he is getting better as he gets older and he asked me to take him so without hesitation i said yes.
I am 70 and have followed the Blades here there and everywhere in my time. I told a friend of mine who's a Blade and he said no way would he have taken anyone to Hillsboro under any circumstances.
I was amazed at his reaction. Surely love for your family comes before love for your football team.
We really enjoyed our day but i kept secret from him that i had a Blades vest under my shirt :).
Would you do what i did?

Under those circumstances, yes.
You'd do anything for your kids / grandkids, particularly if they have special needs.

I would yes. I’ve been to trashton gate to watch Bristol City with a mate (my second team is Bristol Rovers). Football is a fun entertaining thing and people ruin it when it becomes like a religion. Well done for going.

I have family members who are pigs and yes I have been to the sty on a few occasions as a pub and footy day out with them.

I do have a wry smirk and struggle to hide my glee when they getting a pasting tho 😂

Without hesitation

My four grandchildren are all Wednesday supporters , two of them played for Weds academy - their dad / my son in law is a Wednesday fan , as is his dad and his dad .

My own dad (bless him) was a Wednesday fanatic and I used to go with him to Hillsboro back in the day . Great memories .

All my family on my mums side were all Blades , and after visiting Rotherham utd , Weds and Utd at the start of the 1970 season I fell in love with the Blades and travelled near and far to watch them ever since .

It’s in your blood 🩸

Certainly not, sorry

As a 16 year old I went to Hillsborough with a family member who had a spare ticket. This was the noughties when I watched a lot of football as a neutral, so just went to take in a game and hoped that Wednesday would lose. They obliged and got hammered, so there were no regrets from me. It's not something I'd ever consider doing nowadays though.

No. Happily, my family has accepted that being a Blade is mandatory!

it's a solid no from me, without a tenth of a second in consideration but that is purely a personal choice. Doesn't mean anyone is right or wrong :)
Of course it is a choice but surely that is an opportunity to engage with the lad and try something different? no idea what the weather was like but a walk, a meal at Macdonald's ( or Weatherspoon) cinema or a meal whilst out walking would have been an idea ......and cheaper? Sorry, but an opportunity missed

💯

Fatha in law was a pig and surprisingly a decent bloke which is unusual isn’t it?

Died suddenly at 56, wanted coffin bearers to wear pig shirts, obliged as some things transgress football, however wore a blades shirt underneath which was revealed after a few pints, and taken in good spirits tbf.

Didn’t join in the hi ho silver lining bollox tho, daft cunts.

Absolutely I would. It’s not about you. Well done. Proper Grandad 👍🏻❤️

Children with autism often thrive on their routine.

Going to Hillsborough every other Saturday is probably something he really looks forward to, so the only mature and decent thing to do as a Grandfather is to put tribalism to one side and prioritise your grandson with special needs.

You did the right thing.

I have family that are Wednesday fans and I’ve been before when I was young for a non-derby game. Football is football.

I love United and obviously want us to paste the living shit out of Wednesday in November but it doesn’t mean I can never step foot in their stadium for fear of catching something.
