How much of a post mortem do we need? 1 defeat in 19. That against a relegated premier league team (away from home) that's spent the best part of 50 million. We only lost due to a defensive error and we were denied a decent goal ffs. Perspective please!, our midfield of coutts and fleck were fine. They were just better than us with the ball and didn't get pressured into mistakes. The need for pace is evident tho but I'm sure wilder knows that!

If that's the best the so called championship favourites have to offer....on their own patch....then we'll be more than fine.
Heald our own until they scored then they were on top.
Second half we were the better side....not even going to rake over our goal.
Yes, we didn't have a shed load of chances... we're not going to at this level compared to last season .... but over 90 minutes... goal apart ... Blackman had less to do than last week against Brentford.

I thought we started and finished the game as the better side, getting outclassed at times in the middle.

Shit goal to concede. Basham gets a nudge where he should be stronger, and then fluffs the header having made it there first. Blackman gets caught being indecisive, he shouldn't really come for it but once he takes the step forward a very difficult chance suddenly becomes an easy finish now the ball can go over him comfortably. Just seemed like a few mistakes happened at once to gift a goal.

Unlucky with the decision at the end. I don't cry too much over refereeing decisions. You need to be good enough that at the end of the season you're not looking back and blaming anyone but yourselves.

Overall take on it: never happy to lose, very happy that we've just played a second team that's aiming to be up in the top few this season and I haven't seen anything of that huge gulf in class I'm supposed to be shocked by. Aren't Boro supposed to stick seven past us? Aren't we supposed to be woefully short of competing with the big boys? I didn't see much value for money on the £40m difference.

We're a bit short on quality, some of those players will get found out as things go on, but we're a newly promoted side who are supposed to be primarily concerned with finding three teams worse than us. Let's not forget we've still got a few players to make an impact before we get to see the true state of things. I've still got that dangerous optimism I had through last year.

The only thing that bothers me, is at times both Middlesbrough and Brentford showed us up at times. However, I would have took 3 points out of those games. I predicted a loss vs Cardiff, beat Barnsley and a draw against Derby. 7 points from 15!is a decent amount.

I totally agree!. I know wilder knows we need more pace!.. It's slightly worrying though that we don't seem to be able to bring anyone in?. Everything seems to have gone quiet on any potential signings?. I M H O.

They are bound to show us up. We have practically played last season's team against a squad strengthened by several tens of millions. No one will overlook the difference in class today, especially in their positional sense and the way people like George Friend and his opposite number cancelled out our wing threat and basically kept our wingbacks pegged and occupied. But that was it, wasn't it? Aside fron Basham who couldn't handle Gestede and maybe Bamford who seemed to find space behind and between Coutts and Fleck, I don't see where we were critically outgunned though. The score (without the goal) was fair.

The pace we need is more speed of thought then sprint machines . getting players who can think faster then needed in the pub league will make all the difference.

Freeman and Sharp were absolutely dreadful tonight. Not sure why but they were dire.

We played well second half, don't think we had the belief. I know many fans around me before the game didn't I imagine the players didn't either.

We played okay, had more possession and more shots on target. Just a mistake at the back but it is what it is.

I'm going to sleep tonight a proud blade.

Our goal: Fuck the linesman and fuck Sky. Look at the freeze frame on my fucking telly when they say Duffy hit the cross. Notice anything? There's about .75 of a second between the two supposed 'simultaneous' shots. Look at the position of the players on the six yard line and Brooks at the back. O'Connell was onside in the left frame (when Duffy made contact) and their player headed it in anyway. I could live with us being beaten 1-0 because of what I said above, but it's a bag of squirty shit when you are denied a point and lose your unbeaten/winning sequence because of a fucking incompetent lino and a ref who cant read a game properly. None of the Boro players protested. So fuck off Prutton you piggy cunt and fuck you Floyd Hassleback you intelligible arsehole. And that fucking woman. Did they not watch her car smash presenting on Channel 5? Half time, nil-nil? Oh yeah, it's one nil you daft bint.

Robbed. And you know what happens when bad decisions and disallowed goals count at the end of a season don't you?

And look at two of our players (left picture) being held back, did the ref see anything? They never do!

I think the goal against was a combination of: Bash being a yard too deep, Stearman losing his man, Blackman being caught neither here nor there and no shortage of very good movement from their front two to cause all that. Errors made, maybe, but a bit harsh to hang anyone out for it.

Before that, I thought we were maybe edging it. Afterwards, we were way behind. HT saw us regroup and the second half was a bit of a sparring match with neither team really carving out much in the way of chances or sustained pressure.

The offside was wrong. End.

All in all, whatever this season ends up becoming for us it was never going to be defined yesterday. Arguably the hardest test of the season and we weren't disgraced. The focus must now be on the response. I've seen enough from this lot to expect they'll come back with their arms swinging.

Why the fuck is there a meltdown? We should be getting outplayed by a team with those players did, and we still scored the goal for a draw... We play in a decent league now, people need to learn quickly that we will get outplayed a few times...
