Plenty of players still free.. inc hazard and De Gea.

Well I mean why would anyone sign De Gea given his last few years form and his likely wage demands? He's just Robin Olsen with a better CV.

If we want a left footed midfielder we could do a lot worse than Luis Chavez. Regular for Mexico, likes a tackle, energy to burn and has a great shot on him. Also a set piece specialist (see his World Cup goal). Him and Hamer would give us a great left foot right foot option.

I initially thought Chavez was a good shout, but just had a quick look and there seems to be a bizarre story with him unfolding. Apparently he's paid his own release fee so he can sign for Dynamo Moscow (his previous club ruled out doing business with them). Story is here...

Yeah I saw that as well but he bought out his contract 3 weeks ago and still hasn't signed for Dinamo Moscow. Might have fallen through but doubt we'd be looking at him anyway.

It's a really odd one. I've never heard of a player buying out their own release clause before. Call me cynical, but I suspect his signing fee for Dynamo Moscow will miraculously be exactly the same as he's had to pay his club.

Neymar bought out his Barcelona contract to join PSG

Kane was also reportedly considering buying out his own contract to leave Tottenham too.

Fifa have something called the Webster rule which allows players to do such a thing.

Xeka was on Arsenals radar last year. I thought he'd be a decent option before I saw he's recovering from ankle surgery.

Apart from that, I'd go for Aguado. I know nothing about the lad, but choice of song would be a slam dunk.

And it keeps us in the ‘A’ with all the ‘B-Z’ to go at

I was dead against this. Then I saw the teamsheet yesterday and our 'midfield' and the usual 8/9 players injured list. I'm now warming to the idea of Davies. Dear me.

If he is being brought in to add depth and have the occasional starting shirt then fair enough as that surely cannot be worse than the service out midfield offered yesterday. He can't be any more static anyway. Short term deal maybe.
I've heard that this is now back on. As for the usual doubters, myself included, I think we just have towait to see what he plays like in a Blades shirt.

I can't say that I have seen much of Davies play over the years. What type of midfielder is he? Defensive, box to box, attacking?

If this completes our permanent midfield recruitment, even along with Doyle, I don't think that's great from the long term/if relegated point of view

Hamer will likely be sold
Souza probably wouldn't stick around and in any case wouldn't be as necessary in the championship
Davies is average

Even if we brought in decent fees we'd have it all to do again

Would feel much better with at least one of Smallbone or OBrien permanent

Hamer & Souza, based on what? We didn't sell Berge or Iliman in the Championship.

Davies is easily a level above the Championship.

That'll probably the case whoever we sign. Southampton have just spent however many years in the PL and Smallbone was more than happy to jump ship to come here by the sounds of it till here got injured.

Let's concentrate on trying to stop up before worrying about who want to stop.

Smallbone out for 4 moths injured.

I think Hamer will do too well for us to keep

Souza is a foreign player who has established himself in La Liga. I wouldn't ordinarily expect a player like that to stick around for the championship, unless he's a flop

I think that's a major stretch about Davies. Decent at that level but not one you'd build a promotion midfield around

Smallbone injured now

As much as I rate Doyle, if we could sign Davies and O'Brien instead (plus money left over for Archer?), then I think I would have to go with the latter. More numbers and a bit more balance in central midfield when needed
O’Brien is as good as Doyle anyway. So if we get Davies too it’s an absolute no brainer.
