Personally i thought most of the team was poor, and the worst performers for me were McDonald, Evans and the awful Porter.

One player that we missed today was Monty

I think he's been out for all of our defeats this season. Indeed we might have only dropped two points (at Tranmere) when Monty has played. How we could do with his brand of plodding mediocrity now.

One player who doesn't get the stick he might is Lowton. As a kid, and one who pops up with the odd goal no less, it gets missed that he's an abysmal defender. The two Centre Halves are likely to give away a goal through a slip or lack of concentration, but Lowton doesn't seem to know the basics of defending.

Mic, I'm not going to answer you. You've really got some stuff to work out.

BiT. On 24th April 2010, Swansea came to BDTBL. They had 58% possession, had 15 shots and 10 corners to our 7 and 4 respectively. They outplayed us in every department, but we beat them 2-0. They finished the season out of the play-offs in 7th, mostly because they only scored 40 goals in 46 games.

Took them three seasons to get a team toghether to be where they are now. Swansea were never a passing team until they took a chance on Roberto Martinez towards the end of the 2006/7 season. We've been at it for how long now, 15 games? Don't you think we need to be patient and 'stick' at the new footballing philosophy a bit longer even as it will inevitably mean that we still have to change maybe half the squad over the next year, and we can therefore forget the whole promotion thing..?

Dunc, your last sentence there leads me to believe we are singing from the same songsheet here. I am firmly on the side of the fence to say stick with the current philosophy as there is a massive difference to how we are trying to play and how we have played for the last god knows how long. Under Blackwell, even when we won I would often leave the ground feeling pissed off at the dour football on show. I will never forget the 3-0 defeat at Watford on a cold Tuesday night in February a couple of years back - I was just so angry at the lack of any attempt to play any kind of football. You are right, we are only a few games into this new regime and there just seems to be FAR too many people on here who expect everything to work straight away - I've actually cringed at some of the postings of criticism of the style of the play. When it comes off, it's brilliant to watch and the failings won't be lost on DW. It's glaringly obvious we need pace and quality in the final 3rd but don't forget where we are - 3rd tier and barely a penny to our name. You cannot legislate for the defensive mistakes that have cost us the last 2 games.
Piggies played shite yesterday but got lucky and still won, and that luck is something that isn't going our way at the moment. We absoultely could have and should have put Wycombe to the sword last week and I genuinely believe with a little bit more luck we would have done. I know this is a results business but for the long term I am more than happy with the footballing philosophy being shown and fully believe that given a bit more time we will iron out the flaws in the final 3rd or maybe we'll unearth a hidden gem that will scare the shit out of defenders with pace and have the ability to score from a half chance but that is being incredibly optimistic.
Stick with it blades, support the team and we'll get there.

People appear to be forgetting that passing football is useless without accompanying movement. Pass and move. At pace.

We don't seem to do that. We pass on responsibility with the ball or are too slow to get into position.

I really do not believe this "bad luck" shite. You make your own luck, if you want to call it that. Like a top golfer once said " The more I practice the luckier I get"
We have been trotting this excuse out at least since the relegation from the premiership which tore the heart out of our club. Since then we have bemoaned our luck so much that even I started to believe it at one stage.

>Simmo did attack the ball for the second and was very unlucky how it fell luckily to wright phillips. He made some good saves and collected well. 8/10
bollocks i just fell off my chair.. thanks for the laugh.. i didn't know that any of the players posted on here.. 6 at best simmo.. good attempt at the run on goal.. great shot stopper but there is more to the game than shots

unfortunately

>Pass and move. At pace.
hallelujah and praise lord vader.. our problem is that we pass and move.. too fucking slowly. we have 'no' pace

We are close in thinking, as we all are really, (apart from one or two...). We want the club to do well and we want it to be now. But instead of crying about our promotion chances disappearing, or the honeymoon period being over (after the honeymoon comes the marriage, not "instant divorce", btw), we are just going to have to be patient, wait and see how it goes.

The problems are there for us all to see, supporters, coaches, directors. The point I made in introducing Swansea to the argument is that it often takes a couple of seasons or more to get a complete change of style, if there is enough continuity to achieve it. (or its not long term sustainable, like SOD at Donny).

What we have now is superficial and is called 'making the most of a bad job'...

I'm sure you made some comment the other day about passing not being the way forward? This latest stuff from you seems to be a stick with it (passing), which I agree with totally and I hope Danny gets the chance - which he won't if Porter and Flynn are the best he can come up with.

I am a supporter of winning football. Silky passing by itself is not the answer, booting it down the channels by itself is not the answer, but something that can encompass both is probably going to do it. We've been trying a different style this season, but here we are 15 games in, and after a poor run of form, we've got the same old 'you're running out of chances Danny' and a thousand solutions mostly based on this player is shit, that player is shit, the manager is shit, and off we go into the same old self-destructive cycle that got us here. For good or ill, this is what we have, and we will have to just get on with it, until something can be done to make really substantive changes.

Personally, I dont care too much about the style we play. I'm not a connoisseur, but I know that if we score more goals we win the game, and thats what makes me happy. The more time the ball spends in the opposition penalty area, the more likely you are to score, imo, so that would be my preference...

Whilst ever we have a strike force as useless as ours it doesn't matter a toss what kind of football we play!
Evans and Cresswell are the dregs at the bottom of the barrel and Porter is not good enough for the barrel - these guys are being paid obscene amoiunts of money to score goals and none of them are good enough even for this level - stick with it & we'll get there! We'll get nowhere with the three stooges as our strike force!!
The game is about scoring more goals than the opposition - at the moment we can't score! doesn't matter how you dress it up!!

History's unassailable lesson is that the most successful teams play 'pass and move' football. Only the minority Neanderthals of the We  Hoof Brigade would begin to suggest otherwise.

It's the football equivalent of living in Barnsley. Put some coil on't fire and fill't watter bucket then we'll wetch Match O't Day. Eeh Bah Gum it's Wimbledon. Sit dahn lads. It's reight good!

Non league to the top division and an FA cup to boot, lot more for wimbledon to crow about hoof it or not.

And the rest of the story...
my point is pinchy
You're not Dinosaur Dave, are you?
my point is pinchy that your right, the teams that play the more passing style of game will be more successfull, but there are always exceptions to the rule.wimbledon being one of em and yes in footballing terms its not lasted.[thank fuck,no i'm not dinosaur dave.] but they have had more success than us.

1. Play silky football and win every week
2. Play hoof ball and lose every week

You're hinting at another option Jonboy. Pinchy can't cope with that.

yeah but that was 30 years ago mate.. things have moved on since then.. the style of play and how to counterract it has been worked out now

I've been thinking about a cooking metaphore.

Barca are Lobster Thermidor, fantastic, eat it every day if I could afford. The much quoted Brighton are more like a fish pie, they kind of taste a little bit like lobster thermidor, but they aren't. Still if you hadn't had lobster, you might be happy with a bit of haddock and a prawn or two.

We have got a few sausages, a bit of scrag end, some turnips and a few dumplings. We can make a bit of a casserole, but it isn't going to fool anyone despite telling everyone that its really a lot like fish pie.

Some of us would be happy with a casserole if its done properly while actually hoping that we can change enough ingredients to make it fish pie, but being realistic enough to know that it isn't and can't be until those ingredients can be changed...

Bon appetite..!

Well put. I've no problem with that attitude. There are plenty, however, who think we cannot and should not aspire beyond the scrag-end. It's a peculiar form of SUFC inverted snobbery. We must have some of the most anti-epicurean fans in the world!

I'm a doctor and I want my sausages...

Is that really true though Pinchy? Really? Or are we just resigned to a diet of sausage casserole, and making it the best we can, until we can change the contents of the fridge..?

(I'm not sure how far I can extend this metaphore without it becoming ridiculous, btw. I think I'll leave it there...)

Nice one Duncs - love the analogy

Having said that I would say that we are more like eating a bit of old cardboard.
Not very apetising or tasty and when its under pressure it sags and gives in.

Wouldn't it be great if Barcelona(total football)could play erm?I know Barcelona(total football)great game, flowing football, defenders on both sides giving nothing away, and then bingo messi on a run beats one man beats two men GOAL. Then the other messi thinks fuck that and does exactly the same.now this goes on for a few weeks and everyones happy, but after a few months it's the same game same result week after week,so one of the barca managers thinks bollox to this, and tries something different.Guess what (no he don't win the game)but the fans go home thinking well at least he tried something different, because they were pissed off with getting the same result week after week.barca thermador v barca thermador, but one of em as got a bit of hendersons on it.
