I'm on the "kop to go" side of the fence.

The club has to maximise income to support the team. If that means we utilise our spare land to build residential/business let's then so be it.
The club want to improve the game atmosphere, so flatten it and try to replicate the Dortmund stadium, set out to make the new kop THE stand to be in, superb view, superb access to exits and facilities both during and after the game. Take the tatty corner with it and fill in the south stand corner at the same time.

It will cost mind....I would estimate £20m. Would also take a season to do. Do it properly and reap benefits long term.
So I will say again, that we need to get this done sharpish if we are on the up. Would be nice to be going into the premier league with this done and dusted.

Why?????
Turn it from Cherry Street 90 degrees towards Shoreham Street and then build the kop

Eh?

If you turn the entire south stand 90 degrees it's either going to face Bramall Lane or Shoreham Street.

Sorry, if it's not clear, I'll try to explain what I meant.
If you extend the South Stand by a few yards at the Shoreham Street / Cherry Street end and then turn 90 degrees towards Shoreham Street, creating an "L Shape" or corner we could then continue building the Shoreham Street kop all the way along

The kop and the South Stand would then be a continuous area with the added advantage of the corner being filled in

But where would McCabe put his offices ? You know he considers it more land to build on than a stadium.

I think you're going to have to draw it for me. Mind you, I'm feeling incredibly dense today.

Rebuild of the Kop would be preferable although with the plans accepted I doubt it would happen.

Ideal situation would be a new Kop and fill in both corners. Then the proposed clean up of the South Stand and a refurb of the family stand. Think the boxes need some modernisation and the seats need replacing.

Anyone know of or have indeed seen any photos from when the Kop was being converted to all seater.... can't remember seeing anything in the photos thread

Are we in danger of not actually realising what we actually do have at BDTBL and how great it is?

Yes, we all want the ground to be the best it can be and for me, crucially to remain at S24SU to try and retain some of the character, culture and history that you can't buy or build.

We have a great home to football and whilst I like old and interesting grounds (to a point) do you think the likes of Bristol Rovers, Peterborough, Fleetwood, Southend would swop? Equally, I think we should be careful what is wished for when tinkering with the beautiful recipe that is Bramall Lane and I think of those modern empty (toilet) bowls like Coventry and MK dons or stuck out away from normality grounds like Bolton, Huddersfield, Reading etc.

Safe standing and the English Red and white equivalent to the Dortmund yellow wall would enhance the culture. More Lego kits would not and a move down the Don Valley a disaster...

Well put. Watching Fulham v Spurs yesterday reminded me of what a characterful ground Craven Cottage is - and can you imagine the value of a prime, Thames-side plot of land? A fabulous ground like BDTBL is becoming more and more unique, just like our fans. (I was talking to a Wednesdayite cunt yesterday and it was him who brought up the near-28k crowd on Saturday. 'You only got that because of a large away following' said the cunt - the irony escaping him. I pointed out that it was the seventh 20k+ crowd this season, including games against Shrewsbury, Gillingham and Fleetwood on a Tuesday night. We're averaging 20,590 in thde league, a figure that is sure to increase.

What I don't get is with only a few hundred Scunthorpe fans in the lower tier why was there a need to have a section of the south stand H block empty? the upper Westfield corner was all home fans anyway so that can't be it.

I was sat in H block and was surprised they sectioned that lower bit of the seating off.

It's been that way for ages. This is the type of question the club should be asking SYP and whoever it is who makes this kind of idiotic decision. And please don't blame the flare, that was about 12 years ago or more and the tosser who did it got banged up.

Because the police at football matches treat us like scum to justify their presence. Still, easier than chasing grooming gangs in Rotherham...

Deluded is as deluded does.

There was clearly some error on the BBC website over the weekend as it shows the Forrest gate as 20k. We know that Wendy took 79,000 and the M1 had to be specially widened, so what is going on here?

The reason a complete rebuild of the kop isn't on the cards is simply because the benefits would not justify the massive costs. Knocking down a structurally sound concrete terrace just to build another concrete terrace doesn't really make much sense. Yes you could build it slightly steeper for a slightly better view but we fill the kop regularly and people don't seem to mind.

All the other issues (supporting pillars, capacity, roof, aesthetics, facilities) can be easily solved with a relatively simple extension. And the extension can be built steeper than the rest of the stand anyway.

If the Kop was built at the proper angle, the back row after any extension would barely be any further away from the pitch than the current back row.

The current back row is as far away from the pitch as you'd want it to go. It's still a decent view but the other end of the pitch is a long way away.

Maybe we could adopt the South Korean approach to save removing all the old banking on The Kop..... with the addition of a few hundred more tons of soil.

I got that wrapped up in the game I only took one picture...

A full BDTBL is awesome

And remarkably, you took it during the exact second that odious little troll Alexander ventured into his technical area!
