What a great sight it was and what a tremendous atmosphere (at last)

It showed up two important things to my mind.

1.) What potential there is here with a bit of wise investment.

2.) On a more serious note how totally unsuited to modern big games the facilities on the Kop are. The bottle neck at the upper rear around the toilets and refreshment stand is border line dangerous. It needs urgent attention.

I for one totally agree.

The plan to put 4K seats at the back, adding it on to a mound of earth is utterly ridiculous.

Nearly as bad as the kop corner - designed in lego by school kids to get the blueprint no doubt.

It needs to be left as it is (sadly) until proper funds are available to drop it and completely rebuild it.

I have thought this for some time, I wrote to the club about that very area after the Spurs game. Got a thank you for you letter brush off in return.

I amazed every new season that the health and safety haven't have them move the refreshment stall at least.

Can't believe they're still trying to incorporate a spoil heap into a modern football stadium. Also, what is the obsession with building office blocks into the stands? when there's plenty of land to do it elsewhere in BL footprint.

Touching cloth? ;)

If the Kop loses its traditional shape then bollocks to the Kop quite frankly. I like our ground, I don't want a fucking Lego box.

You can have one tier modern Kop. The current arrangement was only suposed to be a temporary fix to get past the Taylor report. It's a mess now quite frankly and that area at the back is dangerous when the Kop is full.

Depends how you define dangerous. It's been full plenty of times since 1991 and I've not known of any significant problems. I'd suggest that any issue lies with ticketing rather than the structure itself.

It does need rebuilding completely.

I really hope we don't hastily add 4,000 seats to the back as a compromise rather than waiting until we're in a position to do it all properly.

It needs to be made steeper, there needs to be more leg space and the pillars need removing. Access and facilities also need improving. Additionally, and importantly, provisions need to be made for the inevitable return of standing areas. Certain sections should be built in a way that is easy to convert to terracing.

It could be a fantastic stand and it could make the stadium absolutely top notch. There's no reason it would have to lose any character either.

We are football fans.
We have watched away games uncovered in rain and snow.
We have had all sorts of crap chucked at us.
We have been locked in at away grounds for 30 minutes after the game.
We are regularly herded like animals by police dogs and horses.

We are not at the opera.

I sit bang in the centre of the Kop and can't buy anything without missing some of the game. Today I missed their goal (but saw ours) just going for a piss.

Do I mind?

Of course not if the football is as good as it was today.

Grow some and concentrate on United, rather than the 'facilities being sub-optimal'.

It could be argued that the football side of the McCabe empire is considered to be secondary to the building opportunities the land provides. If, as you say, there is more land available, that is being land banked for later

At one time it was thought perfectly ok to stand on cinder terraces... then came the Burnden Park disaster

At one time it was thought perfectly ok to let fans come out of a ground by near sheer steep stairways..then came the Ibrox disaster.

At one time it was though ok to pen people in on three sides behind fences....need I go on?

Yeah but why poke it into the line of the ground. A full filled in, seated corner to the same rake and height of the south stand would almost achieve the same numbers proposed for the back of the kop. When the kop roof is removed it is nothing more than concrete covered hill. So its far from being impossible to bring the south stand round onto it.

No don't go on, it'll only get sillier.

Perhaps I should remind you that the Burnden Park and Ibrox disasters weren't caused by having too few pissers and being 'a bit uncomfortable for those wanting an optimal matchday viewing experience'. All your "examples" were caused by factors that haven't existed for 40+ years.

How can I put this simply..

That

Is

Dangerous.

There you go.

Shallow rake and a low roof which matches the stands around it contribute to the special BDTBL atmosphere. I don't sit on the Kop for the comfort. I sit on the Kop for the atmosphere and the craic.

One improvement for the Kop which is needed is a continental style club house in the parking spaces behind it. Proper beer in there, packed full of atmosphere and a few sings songs before kick off. That's a facility which would be used.

Absolutely agree Ricky. A secure standing area would prove very welcoming.

Moved season ticket seats today due to a couple of extra joining us for the game, sat in Westfield corner today and what a view. A cracking atmosphere sandwiched between the south and the scunny lot.

The kop definitely needs rebuilding, but would be daft to do it whilst in this league.

We'll be pissing in the wind with regard to standing sections for the forseeable future I'm afraid. The "Safety Advisory" wankers, Sheffield Council (spit) and the clubs unwillingness to rock the boat will see to that.

I hold out hope that common sense will prevail. I just hope it's in my lifetime.

I'm not crazy about filling in the South Stand corner because then the ground would lose a bit of character, but it would surely be the place to start if you want to increase the capacity. That and a Kop rebuild/development could take it towards 40,000.

I don't think anyone is suggesting completely rebuilding it straightaway, but agree with HG about that toilet / refreshment area, and that could and should be quickly and cheaply sorted out.

My suggestion was knock down the ladies toilet, widening that area around there and move it to where the current refreshment stall is. Move the stall down to the bottom level.

The reason for filling the corner with offices is so that we can't make the present capacity much bigger, ultimately we will have to move to a bowl in the Don valley leaving the Scarborough group with a nice plot of land next to the city centre to redevelop. Oh and by the way those plans last week were done by the idiots who did the kop corner bit. I wouldn't let them loose on planning a kids play ground never mind building it as well.

Agree with that it would make sense. The facilities are poor and was partly the reason we moved STs to south.

I'd like to see the kop completely rebuilt as I'm sure most fans would.

I'd like to have a lower tier which is all standing so the ones who need to go for a piss every 5 minutes can do so without disturbing the rest of us who don't need to drink several pints to pluck up courage or hatred to watch it.

I'd love to have a high step like it used to be when I was a kid - so young uns can be right in the thick of the atmosphere and still be able to see the game.

But I don't see anything other than positives about the plans to create a bigger more modern stadium. I think the comments about health and safety of the extension are ridiculous tbh. If any of you have tried doing an extension at home you'll know the regs are so strict on this that no way they'd be allowed to do anything unsafe.

We're planning to create the biggest capacity, most modern stadium in this city and the biggest kop of any team in the country. And some of you are still not happy eh?

Get some fucking therapy for Gods sake!
