Now one game less.
Each week we chalk off a team that looks like catching us.
Borough made 2 points on us yesterday. They only need to better us by 0.5 of a point per game and it’s squeaky bum time.
Yes it’s a tough task for them but we play them in a few weeks and that 10 is 7 And it’s down to 0.35 points a game, still tough but easier.
My concern, is we (HJS) are playing games like we are viewing the league.
We get our nose in front then try to game manage it out, we just don’t seem to have the killer instinct to go for it (second half of Burnley game aside).
We've got our nose in front in the league and we seem to be playing to maintain rather than complete the job.
Watching the chasing pack and they all seem to play more attacking football probably due to a mini league of 4 play off places. However, listening to the boro commentators yesterday they see automatic in their sights. I tipped them way back to be the dark horses stampeding through and it’s like watching a nightmare come true.
My criticism of Hecky is as it was with Wilder, no plan B and poor use of subs. Yesterday we were so predictable, planned moves, slow on the ball and no creativity through the middle or long range shots. Berge should be doing and setting up these two facets of our game and he’s not.
This begs the “what if” we get promoted question, should we give Hecky a chance or give him a golden handshake and bring in an experienced PL quality manager.
Is the off field situation affecting players? I’d guess yes but for 90+ minutes they have to rise above it. It certainly affecting Hecky judging by his grumpy short sharp answer attitude and it’s deffo affecting the fan base.
Think it was Bournemouth a few seasons ago who were storming the Championship and then lost what seemed an unassailable lead, might be wrong. But, this is SUFC and history has shown nothing is easy. I predict we will get there but with no more than a 4 point lead over 3rd.
