Boro will catch us. It's not a massive criticism but we've lost the momentum they currently have.
100 % this … momentum… we have non and haven’t for a long while … we have the smell of desperation about our performances whilst momentum is most deff with the other teams particularly Boro … the problem is I think we are now in the habit of playing like we do and this will be very difficult to break … especially when teams like Boro will come all guns blazing

How is the momentum with Boro when they have picked up less points than us in the last 3? As have every other team below us

Boro is our 6 pointer, beat them and Swansea and hopefully get some bodies back, and were in for an exciting run

Maybe Middlesbrough and Luton chomping at our arse, might help us over the line. The huge gap might be making us complacent.

Since we bottomed out in the midst of our injury-ravaged period, with the defeat at Coventry, we have played 14 league games with 10 wins, 3 draws and a single defeat.

That sort of run doesn’t give an awful lot of encouragement to sides needing to close down a 10 point gap having played (in Middlesbrough’s case) a game more than us.

Add in a couple of games without defeat in the FACup, and 1 defeat in the last 16, isn’t leaving much hope for teams who - even if they improbably maintain their current good form - still need us to lose 6 or 7 games out of 17.

I've maintained for a while that I see Middlesbrough as our only remaining threat.
I still think they'll close the gap considerably and it will become quite close.
They're playing really well, recruited good players in January and seem to be riding a wave under Carrick.

I appreciate our form has held strong also but I haven't thought much to our performances, particularly with the ball. Without it, we're organised and solid defensively. We're a tough nut to crack.
But we have a terrible tendency to pick up injuries, in games, on the training ground...

Hopefully we have some more bodies back by the Middlesbrough game.
It's so important that we don't lose that fixture.

The game in a couple of weeks against them is absolutely huge. It's more of a "must not lose" for us.

Hopefully we have some more bodies back by then. Tommy Doyle, another training ground injury. It's that accumulation of injuries that might catch us out.

Agree that Boro is huge. Best them and it's probably game over. Lose and drop points to Swansea and it gets a bit more nervy.

The talk of other teams being in better form is just wrong though. Whatever people think of our performances, the facts are we are in just as good form as Boro.

If you define form as purely results based (and most would), then you're correct.
But we haven't looked good for a while.

Ok, we had enough chances today to win the game 3 times over. But it’s the way we’re missing the chances that worries me. Our composure in front of goal is shocking. This inability to put poor teams to bed, will only encourage the chasing pack and put a huge target on our backs.

But I don't think we've been lucky at the same time. Only QPR you could say we got something we didn't deserve.

Boro got totally outplayed by Sunderland just 3 weeks ago. It's not like you have to look far back for their last poor performance

Boro are definitely a threat, they're on good form and have strengthened cleverly. I think we all know it's going to the wire.
We don’t all know that. I for one think it’s total bollocks. FFS we are 10 points ahead of them, with a game in hand, averaging two points a game.

If Boro go on to match Forests amazing run at the end of last season (W10, D3, L3) they'll end up on 81 points. That would mean we need 8 wins from 17 to go up. If we can't get that or Boro better it then we don't deserve to go up and they do
Exactly

Boro are in good form but we ain't bad either certainly results wise.

We need to just focus on us.

17 games can we pick up 30 or 32 points?
Less might even be enough.

If we picked up 30 points to put us on 88, which could be 10 wins or 9 wins 3 draws 5 defeats etc.

Boro would have to get 41 points from a possible 48 to better it.

October 15th last time we conceded more than one goal in the league other thann the 2 against Burnley. middlesboro will know that we don't concede enough to see that 10 point gap is easy to close. We can be like the boring boring 1-0 to the Arsenal for all I care. We will be fine. The Blades ARE GOING UP
