No, I didn't go to the game, but the game, it's nothing to worry about. This is why, because like every team that gets relegated with games to go. The players are showing off for their contracts, such as Wolves last season with Terry Conor, they had only got a point with him and after six games with him they got relegated. Then the next game against Swansea, they went 4-1 down, then went into half time 4-2 and Full time 4-4 and I remember watching the highlights and they were risking and going for it and it paid off. (Well not really, they were still going down). So now we are going to the play-offs no doubt about it, we might play with freedom and maybe even Mighty Morgan will look at the next games as friendlies and try different things with the game and play different players and try and find the right team for the the big game the final.

It's not the game today that worries me, but another example of the squad not performing as they should, nor looking like they have the willingness to.

Our players are also playing for contracts.
Most of our side have contracts up at the end of the season.
I dont think many can be arsed/or give a fuck tbh.
They wont be here next season & they know it.

Portsmouth players might be playing for contracts but most of them were still shit (Connolly, Sodje & Agyemang excepted). The fact that we lost to such a shit team with such ease is what we really ought to worry about.

Sadly other than Kitson/Robson/Higginbotham/Francois...most are still here next year. Collins, McMahon, Doyle, Flynn, Hill etc will all still be here as they are under contract and noone else will have them!

I am coming to the conclusion, (yes I know it has taken me 44 games) but I just don't think our players are quite good enough.

IF we go up via the play-offs (seems unlikely) we haven't got a dogs chance against most of the championship teams. Throw Wigan / Villa, QPR and Reading into the mix and we will struggle badly. We don't have the money to invest in 7/8 new players.

I think it is better to bide our time, develop the young players and build for the future, perhaps poach a few boys and cast-offs from the top teams. A 3+ year plan. Take the pressure off from thinking we should win this league and set more realistic targets.

I can't decide about Morgan, but feel he deserves a chance. I think he would also benefit from not having the pressure to achieve success straight away.

I think this a reasoned reflection on our position.

Very reasoned Hartley...pains me to say it, but amen to that...

MCabe wont give someone 3 years to develop a team. Anyone whos comes through will be sold. Any decent players will be sold.
I also dont think our fans will give the manager 3 years. UNLESS McCabe says... We are building for the future.
He wouldnt say this as he know he would loose money from season ticket sales etc.
MCcabe wants promotion. Nothing less.

but going up and down makes more money to buy players and then there is the loan system

We need a long term manager like when we had warnock for 9 years

It is all about managing expectations.

McCabe has also implied that more emphasis and players to come through from the reserves. The manager should tell him that as a result he will have to be patient and build a team around;

Long, Maguire, Mcdonald and Ironside.

There's a start to the spine of a team.

I would rather stay in this division for another three years than sell two or three of those players to pay the wages of the like of Kitson, Robson et al.

Robson isn't good enough. I want to see Harry Maguire in the BPL, same with Long.

The club needs to get over this theory of giving people a chance, just because they are the cheap option or within the team. It's clear Morgan isn't good enough at the moment (due to lack of experience which he should get by managing a team at a lower level and learn is trade there). United should get the best manager available who applies for the job. It was clear when Wilson (who didn't even apply for the Blades job) was approached by KM there was better candidates for the position who actually applied.

Made me laugh at the q and a when McCabe said managers panic and bring in loan signings. Why do you think that is quick draw?

Is this supposition, or do you know for a fact? Serious question.

We should definitely go for the best man the appies for the job - the difficult bit is defining who is the best manager for the job? Preferably not someone who is on the manager-go-round - but then it gets difficult.

Who applied that was better than Wilson. Kick the crap out of him all you like but his team got a points tally last season that would have usually seen us promoted a piece of piss. Then McCabe sells Quinn and Blackman and guess what happens?

Wilson said it in his first press conference that he hadn't even thought about job and didn't apply for it, and it was KM who called him

Twasn't that bit I wondered about - it was who else applied?

This is the best post I have ever read on here.
