In my pre-match prediction, I said that todays game would be our hardest so far this season. How wrong was I ??
We played the second placed team in the league off the park in my opinion and, except for some poor finishing, good goalkeeping and yet again, a shit performance by the officials, we would have a had a comfortable win today.
The football we played at times today was excellent with every player contributing to a great performance overall, Ryan Flynn was outstanding.
It's so frustrating when we create so many chances and only score once (didn't see owt wrong with Harry's goal either ) however, the signs are there that when we do click and get going properly, some teams are gonna take a hell of a thumping from us.

Lovely game of football, great performance by the Blades, still unbeaten, roll on Tuesday night against the second bottom team in the league.

Good to hear from someone who was at the game.Giddings on radio also shared your thoughts that we should have collected all three.

I was at the match today and at the risk of breaking the general consensus, Kitson apart, I was not impressed. Sadly, we look to me like a 3rd division team with 3rd divisions players, which, at times, last season, we didn't. To be fair, Notts County were equally mediocre and it may be that we will end up going up by default as it were. My hunce is that we will end up upper mid table or perhaps scrape the play offs.

Obviously losing our four best players in Lowton, Evans, Willimason and Quinn cannot but have a massive effect on the team, but I can't recall seeing so poor a United team in a long time.

If this was the first time you've seen us this season that's an understandable conclusion. Just a good job you didn't pick the Bury match. :)

Given who we've lost I think we're doing OK and will really push on if our best players stay on the pitch. What we lack is a weapon or two. That is to say players who when on form are simply too good for their opponents. Ched, Lowton, Quinn...

Today we should have comfortably crushed one of the promotion favourites. Other teams won't be so lucky.

We dominated - 18 attempts to 7 on target proves that - but once again our inability to turn possession & good positions into goals cost us. The lack of quality for the final pass or shot was so frustrating. And although we defended ok for the most part, we were woeful for their goal.

the worst thing about today was that the murderer got the goal for them

Good call. A very good performance with not one player lacking.

However...

  • I felt at HT our chance had gone. Plenty of possession but again nowhere near enough 'working' of their goalie for a home match.
  • If County had scored first, they'd have probably won.
  • One goal is never enough.
  • The ref. and their No. 10 were a fucking disgrace.

Ne'er mind, still unbeaten, two away games to come against not-the-stiffest opposition, showing signs of gelling. DW was right to sub. Kitson as he was one foul away from a sending off. Not that he deserved it, but the way that ref. was performing, it could easily have happened.

Thought we put in a decent team performance. Goal apart the defence looked solid, and good t o see Flynn and Doyle back giving better shape to midfield. We created chances and that was with MacDonald well below the standards he's capable of. That said, County missed the best chance with that fluffed shot in the first half. Given the players we've lost, we're doing ok. Far from perfect, but I'm quite optimistic for the season..UTB

We dominated from start to finish and a combination of very good goalkeeping and poor finishing let us down - again. Another disappointing 2 points dropped at home, made even more so by the chances we wasted. I haven't been so disappointed since we got Bobby Sands round to decorate the kitchen... :(

That comment on the ref and judge (no10) grafikhaus is spot on. Judge was on the wind up from start to finish and the ref fell for it

and he shaved his head and waited till any drugs would have been out of his system before turning himself in
plus he was a cuntsack before he reckleslly ended someones life should be getting his arse stretched every day for the rest of his sorry life

No - but he ran from the scene before he could be caught and left the other driver to die

Doesn't make him a murderer though does it? He went to prison for the crime he committed, served his time then came out and got a job. Didn't sponge off society, didn't go off the rails so give it a fucking rest. There are far worse out there who've done far worse things so FFS stop talking bollocks.

The defending was awful for their goal. After watching it back on the Football League Show, it looks even worse. How many were on the line at the near post?!?!? Schoolboy stuff i'm afraid. Still, a great point for me. County are one of the best sides in the league and we got a well deserved point and maybe should have had more. We have to look at the positives, and after losing so many good players in such a short space of time, i think we've adapted well. Credit to Danny Wilson.

I'd disagree. I think that's one game where we looked better than 3rd division - but that's opinions for you.

But for better finishing, we'd have won easily and I think most would have been discussing a very good performance. I think Blackman will be top player but yesterday showed he still has a lot to learn. The balance between the selfishness required by a striker and being a team player is not there yet. It will come, hopefully.

I'd disgree with the OP regarding Flynn. I now think he can be a good player for us, but he has to learn to go forwards and not always cut back. His lack of pace will always limit him, but I think he's more aware of it than he needs to be.

UTB

was known t do drugs..so probs driving with em in his system(hence why he ran)..wanker...running from a human being that was dying(even if he didn't know it)..wanker....=low life manslaughterin scum, who should never av been allowed to play professional football with a more than good wage.........rant over....on the match.the obvious.missed chances costing us..hope it's sorted, and top 2 ere we come..UTB

Yes, I cannot believe that some people on here would actually defend hughes. This guy is an absoloute scumbag. Get a fucking grip.

It a shame tho that the teams above us will have 20 point head start

I said I'd be happy with a draw prior to the match. Didn't feel like that afterwards though. We should have buried them. They were utter shite and as dirty as expected. That stumpy legged little barsted Judge is one horrible little man, all the traits that are bad about the game he possesses in abundance. Disgusting. I know this, if we can start to convert these chances that we are creating someones going to be on the end of a right battering !

Totally agree about the mans morals but you can't take away his livelihood once he's served his sentence. Better that he's allowed to continue his profession and pay some tax as opposed to sponging off society. How do you feel about our convicted rapist, should he be forced to live a life in the work house when he's released, or is the crime that he was convicted of OK because he's a Blade and he didn't really do it in spite of what the jury thought. (sarcasm fully intended)

Anyway, enough of that, in a way it's nice that we're disappointed we didn't batter a team at the top. We were better than them and should finish higher....if we get a striker who can score goals. It's OK having these work horse types but sometimes you need a shit liner who'll get the scruffy goals, or who'll do sod all the rest of the time but take the chances that come his way. I knew we'd miss Ched, I thought we were a poor side apart from him last season and unless we find someone similar we could struggle in what should really be a cakewalk through a division as poor as this one.

We played very well. I'm afraid some opinions are conditioned entirely by the result. We will play a lot worse and get three points.

I thought we played very well and on balance deserved all three points - however we missed several chances to put the game to bed and one peice of horrendous defending gave away a goal - no matter how well you play if you can't score and then at the other end give away goals the team will struggle!!
It was the same at Coventry at the start of the season, and at Colchester if we can't put that right (and obviously we haven't to date) then it doesn't matter how well we play!!!

An interesting read, mate.

I would never say results don't matter; of course they do. There is a tendency, however, to rewrite the story depending on the outcome. Lots of people have asked me if I "watched that rubbish at the Lane" on Saturday, followed by a swift condemnation such as "we were shite..." We weren't and few would have offered such an opinion had we, as a result of an identical performance save for the one piece of comedy defending, won the game. We were not fantastic; far from it, but that standard of performance will, if repeated, deliver a lot more victories than defeats at this level.

I await eagerly the 'evening footballer' and 'cheese viewer' :)

Serious question 18 E. Is it just from football that you would debar everyone who has committed a crime? from earning a living As far as I'm aware, criminals, past present and future are allowed to play the beautiful game.
Rather that than living on the dole eh.:fattwat:
