to sack NA or not

Woody - you seem to be looking to cross the street to pick a fight with anyone. Everything OK?

Fair comment. Fancy a fight?! I'm fed up of negative 'fans', those who revel in our failure. Some nights I'm up for a battle and I reckon that's fair enough. Hey Bornablade, I only know 5 or 6 nicknames, which camp are you in?

Are you just out to cause a row with everybody ?

No, just all those negative fans who will deny they were ever anti-us when we turn the corner, as surely we will.

Not you Sitwell.

I have had some good news today though and am unusually 'liberated' and feel like saying what I think!!

Next??!!

By some accounts a large part of this squad is not playing for the manager cos they are pissed off that Clough, who signed most of them, was sacked. So unless we are to get Clough back how will sacking Adkins change that? It would have to be some really nasty bastard who they were shit scared of to get a change I reckon. That could be interesting (I can think of one, though I don't think his record on developing youth players would tick the right boxes) but I'd rather they let Adkins have another season with as many of this lot cleared out as possible.

does that make any sense?

Sometimes I'm embarrassed to be a member of this Forum.

I would be more embarrassed about the way you reply to other people on this site, that's right, anyone who does not agree with you, slag them off, rather than a manager who has no clue, has taken us backwards on the playing front and I do not just mean on winning drawing or losing, we play some dreadful football he has taken all the air out of our stadium and left fans deflated. I go to a lot of away games and I have never seen for such a long time such angry, exasperated, and Peeved fans. If you employed a person who was not performing to his best and was letting you and others down, lets say 18,000 fans every week I'm sure he would not last another year he would be out of the door. Soccer is a cut thought business the only thing that matters to fans and board members is success not failure. I would say that in soccer land he is very lucky to still be the manager of Sheffield United.

Not saying we should or shouldn't go with Wilder but I remember a few years ago when we were deep in the brown stuff and a fellow blade got the job basically because nobody else was up for it. Didn't go down too well with the fans either......... Did alright though Mr Warnock though didn't he
Fellow blade Mickey Adams was also given the job and look where that ended.

Clough- Less than 2 seasons
Wilson- Less than 2 seasons
Weir- Less than 1 season
Adams- 1 season

This for me is clear to see that Wilson or Clough should not have been sacked. Weir and Adams - absolutely!

Here's something for you folks to chew on...

Question: Which one of the following is the main reason for our demise..

  1. Wilson
  2. Weir
  3. Clough
  4. Adams
  5. Adkins
  6. OR THE SAME FUCKING SHITE SQUAD OF PLAYERS (in the main) THAT HAVE BEEN HERE FOR ALL OF THE ABOVE MANAGERS TENURES?
The choice is yours!

This thread is serious as the club on all fronts is not performing. Some good points raised as you read through them.

The members who have contributed to this thread IMO have talked sense . If there is a board meeting tomorrow then Adkins , team performances will be on the agenda , and no doubt a talking point , with differing opinions on the problem , solution , cause , effect .

It would not surprise me if the board are split like us fans . McCabe and Co are blades as well as board members and will be concerned on the progress and performances of the team and manager this season.

I do not want us to sack Adkins , IMO it would be suicidal as we have no plan in place to do a Watford.

The Prince , I am not too sure of , and not convinced that the board are in unison all pulling in the same direction.

Being embarrassed of this thread , is not facing up to the fact that Adkins is walking a tight rope .

I hope the board sticks and backs Adkins

You usually have either a Cameron or a Boris opinion .

UTB
I think the tight rope you talk of Lord Bos is one that you and other blades are imagining is there due to our recent history of pulling the trigger.
Adkins will be here next season whether we surprise everyone and get promotion or stay put.The board will have finally learnt there lesson from previouse mistakes.
There will be doubts among board members just like there are doubters amongst us,but this time ( in my opinion ) common sense will prevail.
Everyone gets excited when a new man comes in dreaming he is a miracle worker ,they rarely are as they have to put together a team from players left over from previouse manager.s.Six months later cus the dream is smashed the cry of sack the manager starts all over again.
There is an old saying !! grass is not always greener on the other side !!
We have to stick with him ,he is a great beleaver in youth (academy ),accepted the players he have signed so far are not young but I think given time he will bring the right ones in .

Jesus , woody , always thought I gave constructive criticism, the fuck I now .

? I do try not to slag anybody off. I always try to trust genuine debate. Anyway, all those other issues you mention are not my issues. I hope we are successful as much as anybody. It's just that I don't believe any club has a right to be successful and we are not successful yet.

We'd be stupid to sack yet another manager, it would just take us back another 12 months. We need to stick with him, get rid of as many of the current wankers that are stealing a wage from us as we can in the summer, and rebuild.

Magic Mike says so? That's me sold!

The only certainty is that's he'll twatterise a screen-grab from here of someone criticizing him so that his entourage can fawn over him and beg him not to take any notice of those nasty men on S2

You were there slagging the board off for appointing Wilson, In fact you made a 200 mile trip to do that!

Good old Strappy. Doesn't read this forum? Everything he posts is discussed on here first.

Which begs the question why they didn't perform for Clough then ? If they did Clough would still be here.
I personally can't see the difference between Clough and Adkins, it's slow, boring, methodical and laboured performances win lose or draw, they make every single aspect of the game seem difficult because they aren't willing to work hard enough.

We've had so many sub standard players, the club specialises in it, and that's why the only bit of very very very limited success we've had has been as a result of some kick and rush merchant bollocking them every two seconds for lack of effort and concentration. They couldn't get bollocked for lack of ability because they had none to start with, but Bassett and Warnock bollocked them constantly for lack of professionalism and effort.

That's as good as it has ever got for us for 40+ years, a team of shit players who will give everything as long as their driven on by a seething madman, or a team of slightly better ability who just don't give a shit and being allowed to do whatever they like.

Not since John Harris have we had a team of good players who were motivated to play for this club, every team since has either been honest pro's doing their best with limited ability or complete and utter wankers like we have now

PS - Not having a go at you

You're right I was there, not amongst that (very small) mob and not for the reason the new manager was ex-S6. For the simple reason he was not a good enough manager and McCabe invited us all in and encouraged questions and comments. After the meeting KM congratulated me on my little speech as did the Finance Director at that time. My intended protest (not slagging!!) was to hand in my season ticket but Morgan's and KM's enthusiasm for Wilson was impressive and in any case the anger wore off after a few hours on the road and in the car park. Good SUFC history though.

That 'mob' by the way was gathered together and whipped up by the media photographer. There had been only a handful chanting and shouting, in fact there aren't many in the picture if you look closely.

I've not seen any improvement whatsoever from a manager who should have been able to take at least 11 of our 40 players to a higher level of performance..

We don't have a team who want to play for Adkins and that's quite clear, so he will be the one to release a great deal of them, sell a load of others and ditch the never gonna be's like digirolamo....

But, who will we be getting instead? Old journeymen who Adkins picks up on free transfers, who like Hammond and Woolford see this club as a big enough one to drop down to and see thier time out, or are we in for the shock of our lives where the scouts pick up five or six good young prospects and we create a nucleus of young ambitious players with the older heads to bring stability and experience, given that we sell any player who shows any flair desire or ambition at the first bid, I'm going for the old pals act route..

Saying we've spent x on sacking managers and making this the reason to stick with Nigel 2 is madness by the way, I have seen nothing in the teams performance or play to support the club keeping faith in Adkins, absolutely fucking nothing....

Sorry....

Would imagine McCabe is trying to persuade the others to stick with Adkins, or he`s going to make himself look a right tater, having told Radio Sheffield he has total faith in him, and believed he would be here next season.

If Adkins is not good enough then the cash needed to pay off his team of coaches and scout would be money well spent. Trouble is nobody knows whether he's good enough yet and there lies the big decision the Board will have to make at some stage.

If it's obvious within the club that Adkins is past his sell-by date ( which is possible bearing in mind Reading) then there is no point in keeping him on for the sake of 'continuity'.

On the other hand if he has maintained his credibility with the Board and amongst the few players who matter and he has provided a valid plan for the summer, then of course he warrants the very substantial investment and expense that a total squad rebuild will entail. It's a big decision after this disastrous season because the thought of failure over the next two years is horrific; think where that will leave us.

The thought of finding a new manager would fill the Board with dread and 'the word' in football will be that S2 is a 'toxic' place to work for anybody.

Not always that easy is it?
Look at Mourihno/Chelsea...

Had a belly full of the Adkins diet.

The bloke IMO is very lucky still to be in a job . His saving grace is that the players are worst than him , and they are not his players , in the true sense of the word , although loans have not been any better on the playing front.

His tactics , loans , substitutions have all been dire .

The bloke is upbeat and does have confidence to pull this around . Let's go with him . Saying that it's not my money he will be spending .

UTB

Nail on the head, Lord. Defending his continuing position as United manager with statements like 'We can't keep sacking managers', 'his hands are tied' and 'give him time' is like saying 'Clap isn't bad. Compared to Ebola.'

He must go as he's treated to a season-long version of David Weir, has destroyed morale amongst Blades fans, will be responsible for a dramatic fall in season ticket sales and has generally been a disaster. However, instead of the usual 'who would you have, then?' isn't it time that the whole of the management recruitment process was seriously looked at?

Would-be applicants must stop presenting their CVs as a cut-and-paste job from Wikipedia, coveniently ignoring the failures but highlighting any successes. In the past. Are they managers or coaches? These failures are increasingly resorting to this excuse, so let's be honest up front. 'Are you a coach?' In which case, I'm sure you won't mind if we also employ a manager to handle transfers, negotiations with agents, final team selection?

The whole 'management merry-go-round' is a scam, where failures are rewarded for, well, failure. I want to see a young, bright, up-and-coming manager/coach who hasn't been blinded by the pointless 'badges', who has the ability to look at things with fresh eyes and is more in tune with his players - both age-wise and with recent playing experience. The more years these people have spent as managers means the more failures they've had.

Woodys anti - Wilson trip gets more impressive with each telling. A couple more reminiscences and he'll have knocked Billy Whitehurst out in the car park and back scuttled Gary Megsons wife over the boardroom table while McCabe applauded!
