Time wasting

The Scandinavian Blades were there that day against Forest and I felt cheated having come all that way to watch 90 minutes of football while effective playing time felt like 30.
What was really frustrating was the naivity of the refs in these situations. It would be easy at the first sign of time wasting to call the captains together and tell them. If a player or several get sent off because of a second yellow so be it. Soft sendings off would soon mean players cut it out.
I felt cheated that day so goodness knows how bad you guys must have felt.

Yes, the ref. was abysmal. After only adding one minute to the first half (when the pen. took 2-3 mins.) it was obvious at least 5 minutes would be added at the end of the game. A board from the fourth official would have helped, none appeared and it can only suggest the ref. had totally lost control.

Yes, although Oldham deserved a draw, they took advantage of a weak ref. You get Third Division refs. in the Third Division. They scored in the sixth minute of injury time and he finally blew after adding a total of 7 minutes on.

Right. That's how I saw it. But isn't that the way to play to get out of this goddammed division? Worked for Charlton and Wednesday last season. Isn't it time we grew a backbone and stood toe-to-toe with these footballing thugs? Better, surely, than this 'attactive' football Wilson has introduced i.e 15 passed sideways and backwards. Killer ball? Don't make me laugh.

And Foxy, you seem to be upset at Dichov's antics on the touchline. Ever thought it might just catch the eye and influence a pathetically weak ref. like we had today. Far more than Wilson's tailors dummy impression.

As ever, the first half passed without a single shot or corner. We're the home team. Oldham are hardly world beaters. Ever heard of 'bossing a game', Wilson?

I thought Kitson did well today, but too many had 'a bad day at the office'. The sight of Oldham's goalie coming up for a corner with two-and-a-half minutes to go (plus at least 5 more to come) showed us waving the white flag. At home, defending a corner and not a single player near the halfway line? WTF? And that pathetic free kick where nobody attempted to even enter their box - we might as well have laid a huge 'Welcome' mat out. All the way to our goal.

And while it's always a pisser conceding a late, late equaliser, console yourself. If Oldham had scored 10 or 15 minutes earlier, they'd have probably won.

The buck has to stop with Wilson today.

Not upset in the slightest, just think he's a dick and would be embarrassed if Wilson went off like that :)

That's exactly what he was trying to do, it's just embarrassing even if it worked :)

Cofie is yet another superstar youngster who will be playing for nuneaton within 2 years. We sure know how to pick our loan signings. Look at the guys tranmere have on loan, then look at the bag of bumfluff we get on loan every year.

Graf - the board did go up. 3 minutes - which was fine. Hill then got injured, but if later than 5 minutes which it was then ref has done us yes.

Top stuff Kenny lad. Cofie get's worse - total joke of a signing imo. Really, really poor player - and could not give a toss if clappers say he is young etc.

Blades fans change with the wind... He was the next Pele when he scored at Rotherham, now it's a joke we signed him.

He looks like what he is, a young lad who is a bit of an enigma. Did very little today and I'd rather have seen Chaps get some time, or put Miller on.

We can't even time waste properly.

Charlton were/are good time wasters but they usually grind out a win when they do it.

The antics of Oldham were to try and get one of our lads sent off.

shock.. i agree totally with Mic.. we totally bottled it.. some of them looked scared
Oldham despite their poxy antics deserved a point.. we only had one shot and one was a pen... Longy made a couple of decent saves
i don't mind us drawing but the lack of commitment from some players was appalling IMO

Lucky for the Blades when Long was taken out and he went through the advertising board, his head just missed the support bar by inches.
Their tactics were to unsettle the young keeper the ref should have noticed this .As it ended up a yellow went to each team for the incident Oldham must have been chuckling over that.
A more experienced keeper would have stayed down and waited for a trainer putting more pressure on the ref.

From watching the replay, Simpson had his eyes on the ball and went for it. Long got there first and was pushed out of the pitch. We rightly got the free kick, and Simpson even a yellow. I doubt it had much to do with unsettling a young keeper and not really something to get upset about. Long got a bit of mud on his knee but wasn't injured, well done to him for not making a meal out of it.

Another episode that's been commented on was Byrne's reaction to Blackman's trodding on the ball in an attempt to do a tricky twist. Byrne wrongly, but genuinely, thought it was a dangerous stamp.

M'Voto's "headbutt", need to see it again, but it didn't look like there was any contact between the players' heads.

There were more episodes that upset people, and Croft in particular seemed to complain even when he comitted blatant fouls, but McMahon pretended to be injured early on when he won a free kick and Blackman took a dive in the second half, so we weren't all innocent ourselves either.

Yes he got a bit of mud on his knee but it could have been much more serious he went through the advertising board and just missed the support bar.The guilty party went behind the net with a smirk on his face .
I would expect any young keeper to be pressed when the chance is there you see a kid in net you take the advantage you take a yellow it is worth it if you have put the keeper off his game.
The Blades lack a Morgan who would put a stop to bullying tactics.

Bergen,

It looked from my view from the South Stand that two Oldham players (one of them being the scorer) were in an offside position when they scored. from watching it on TV do you agree? The same linesman flagged kitson offside in the 1st half when he wasnt

Recorded the game, so will check later or tomorrow. You're definitely right that Kitson wasn't offside when he ran in behind them down our left.

Yes, that was the moment, Blades fans near me were shocked at the linesman's decision to flag Kitson offside and were shouting at the linesman for being an idiot,

Agree with you that we were stupid to use time wasting tactics (Blackman, McDonald and Flynn). Long could have tried to kick the ball towards the kop goal when he held a header from a corner as their keeper was still well into our half

It will be interesting to see the highlights as Kitson was pulled back for the pen if that defender was the last man he should have walked, it didn't even produce a yellow.

There were 3 minutes added. That is perfectly normal.

Well you must have seen a board going up with that on cos I couldn't (I sit on the JSS bang opposite the tunnel) and if there were three minutes extra time why did Keith Edwards say there were 7 minutes extra time and why was the Oldham goal scored at 5:02, a full 122 minutes after kick off...

From the camera angles it's not possible to tell for certain. Smith (the scorer) was not offside, but the other player may have been an inch or two offside. I think it is Cresswell who's in the best position to attack the ball, but decides not to as he thinks it is offside. Then Hill slips as well.

no .. i'm sorry foxy mate, but he looked so worried about getting injured that he never put his foot in a challenge once.. jose mourinho would have removed him after ten minutes.. mind you he's decisive

The stoppage was almost exactly two minutes, almost to the second. The ref proceeded to play over a minute more for no reason at all. That incompetence cost United two points. Well, that and Ryan Flynn's miss.

What was your view when Warnock behaved like that?

You seem to be doubting the simple statement of fact that the board went up with 3 minutes on? Plenty have told you Hill went down for a couple of minutes and it's all very easy to understand why they scored when they did.

He was never as daft as Dickov, but he was embarrassing at times too.

Naughty Dickov - fancy a manager wanting his side - who played very well - to get a result. It's just not fair, Nasty Oldham didn't let young John play and they kicked him and they pushed the keeper.

Had it been Mr Blackwell you'd have made a lengthy thread about it :-)

That's not quite what I said now is it?

I sit in the South Stand and god did I want to knock Dickov out. If our team is in the mould of dour Danny then Oldham certainly are nasty fuckers, always leaving their foot in. Surprised the 4th official did not call the ref over at times, but then again the ref had his own problems on the pitch!
