Time to show your worth Mr Birch

But this is the point. When you say 'Big words' Ill ask you again, what would you rather Birch have said when Adams was sat next to him at the press conference? "Meh, the guys cheap. Sorry Micky lad"?

And as for "small delivery", how do you know after just two games in?

See, your off again ahead of yourself. I'm talking about the first statement Birch made well before Adams started. The one where he talked about the sort of Manager we were looking for. That was the big talk and Adams was the small delivery. Its a fair point that 2 games in you don't know for sure but its my opinion based on what Adams has to work with and the sort of players he is going to attract.

As for Adams being sat next to Birch at the press conference, its ludicrous to suggest he says anything other than what he did, but that wasn't what I was on about.

Oh and for what its worth I don't want Adams to fail, far from it. I would be very happy to come on here and say well done if/when he takes us up the league and we get into the play offs next season etc etc. I just don't think he will and I think we took him on for all the wrong reasons.

The key words weren't at the press conference. They were the earlier ones about how we want a particular type of manager, which were followed by the appointment of a manager who does not fit that template (although I have no dog in the Adams/O'Driscoll fight, I might add).

What I would rather United do is not make statements of intent which they don't then follow through on, although this has been a hallmark of our post-relegation administration. As ever, the lesson is ignore what United say and watch what they actually do.

Yeah, thats what I meant, pleased I'm not alone in thinking this. Just you, me and Len then :)

that's the point that some are missing...Adams did fit the criteria...the only debating point is style of play.

Exactly, the main criteria from Birch's original interview;

Experience in this division - check (including promotion)
Passion for the job - check
Able to perform on a shoe-string - check
Work with the Academy and continue the football strategy - this is the difficult one because he also talked about continuing to develop the style of play but it's also too early to write him off on this score

Arguably he would score higher than SO'D on two of those so who's to say on a scoring system that he wasn't a more suitable candidate overall ?

I think that in terms of style of play, he's a pragmatist, unlike SOD, and does what needs to be done given the circumstances. At the moment we are in the shit, so he will play the way we need to play to hopefully ease some of the pressure. We know from other clubs that whilst he is a long way from being a Wenger, neither is he just a hoof merchant. It is much too early to predict what style we will eventually end up with under MA, but the point is he is capable of mixing it up which, to me, is a positive.

Nah, I'm in as well.

I see it like being asked if I want a cup of coffee and saying yes but ending up with tea.

I have no problem with tea, it might even be better than coffee, but it ain't coffee and that's what I thought I'd be having.
Just a shame we never got around to even considering a Jack Daniels!
