But aren’t Northampton in all sorts of financial difficulty? And he has a soft spot for our club….
I remember at the Everton away match in May 1993, Wilder being three rows in front of me standing up with his mates jumping up and cheering the Blades on. He was a Rotherham player at the time. When I played cricket against him in 1995 I was telling him that I thought he was a good player for us in our promotion seasons. He thanked me and asked for my thoughts on the Blades in the season just gone (1994-95). I remember Steve Thompson saying after the penalty shoot out win against Coventry in March 1998, there were fans invading the pitch, one of them put his arm on Thompson's shoulder, Thompson turned round to see who it was and it was Wilder (a Bradford player then)

Edinburgh wouldn't leave Gillingham. He has crafted a team of pretty slick footballers after the club being in the doldrums for some years. And I reckon they have agood chance of going up.

Why would he come north to Bramall Lane to work for a Chairman who will sell his players and not give him funds to replace them?

pommpey

Pompey agree with you . I know McCabe and Co get the flack but it wasn't uncle Kevin who said he wanted Hammond , Sammon and that other useless bloke from Milllwall .
Thing is we can't afford to sack Adkins and his back room staff , as we have no spare money .
We are stuck with him , although it did appeared at the time to be a harsh wrong decision sacking at Southampton ( turned out right shout in the end )
Nobody can deny that to date Adkins has been a useless fucker and he does have to take some responsibility.
In saying that we stick with him , due to no one out there IMO being any better than what we have unfortunately already got

Can we not put Adkins on the bench, and get a coach in on loan. Only asking like.

Yeeeeeaaahh, they really hate him down in Southampton.

The wanker only got them promoted from League One straight through to the Premier League and had them outside of the relegation places when he left.

Bet he daren't show his face down there after that failure.

Ahhh but that was all 4000 years ago before promotions really counted.

We can't fire Adkins...something is seriously wrong at the club. At least give him the chance to clear out the shit and actually buy some players he likes. Sammon and Hammond are far worse than they ought to be and Woolford was just a mistake. You can't say that Southampton and Scunthorpe were flukes though. The best thing we can do is leave NA alone and put as much heat as possible on the board, who from what I can tell from their linked in profiles and such, don't look fit to run a hot dog stall. Hopefully they will put up or fuck off if we do.

A promotion on his cv this year would increase his stock considerably. Taking on our bunch of wasters would achieve what for him as a manager?

We on the other hand are flush with money?

But daft suggesting Adkins successes aren't up to much years later. They were the very thing many wanted after deriding Clough for having none. But that was then, not now. Put to one side the pathetic stewardship by the board and look at what Adkins has achieved on the pitch here and judge him on that. I'd say he's failed up to now, is still failing and doesn't seem to have much of a clue of how to change anything.

Ironic that Clough might get one this year then!

On the OP as much as I agree that he's not performing I just can't see how we can justify another £million pay off to a management team, fans will moan when we extend Flynn & Collins because we can't afford better as a result.

Final whistle last night I cant remember being as angry at a United performance since the 3 rd division relegation season. The PL relegation upset me despite my age but Tuesday was dire. I know sacking managers isn't a long term solution but the financial impact of sacking Adkins should be the boards problem not the fans.

Agreed it shouldn't be but unless McCabe and Princey put aside a stash each month for sacking managers separate to the playing staff budget me and you both know that it's only the fans who will feel it when we sign nothing/shit in the next window.

Hard to call as we're in terminal decline but Weir & Robbo aside sacking managers has not been the right option since NW left. If we go on a 6 game losing streak then he has to go but if we finish upper mid-table we've hit expectation as far as I'm concerned. The worry is that a club like us can be happy to accept that, sadly that's where we are right now.

I suppose he could get a better offer higher up the leagues but I think he’d choose managing us over staying at Northampton. His affinity for the club coupled with the size of the club and the facilities available compared to their place would provide too big a lure for him to turn it down IMO.

But like I say, I’m all for sticking with Adkins. Sacking the manager every year and blaming the departed manager for the board’s failings is growing old.

I did Tuesday but have calmed down somewhat so I have no one in mind and didn't even think about a replacement whilst pissed off cold and wet at Bury.

Fair enough. I've often felt like that at games but when I calm down and try to think about what would be best in the long run, I still think a major overhaul of playing staff (with Adkins remaining) is our best chance of moving forward.

His success at Scunthorpe was as a result of doing things his way, his poor showing so far at The Lane are (as you pointed out) down to the Board. I suggest that Adkins is not the problem.

well Wilson did well with barnsley , but failed to prove he could emulate it
Adkins even I expected some shrewd pros with good capability coming in , but not one of his additions takes the game by the scruff
There's no one capable of being consistent , the very basic need in a promotion team .I wasnt sure he still had the magic dust to get the sled to fly but everyone thought it wasn't a bad appointment
But like many previous managers the magic of motivation is not proving to be transferable from his previous efforts

Funny, not once have you ever mentioned this at any point before.
In a thread that mentioned he was one on the list I voiced some concerns over his more recent failings
I always said Robinson was my first choice
but gave him the benifit of the doubt once appointed as it seemed universally acceptable

And even recently gave him some leeway , but hes blown every positive he had out the water in turn

I find it amusing how all these people who doubted him have crawled from out of the woodwork.

He got pretty much universal approval.

until he was appointed I wanted Robinson and still think hed come if offered the job as he knows how big we could be

once you pick a manager you have to get behind them , until its apparent its not working
