Jury's still out for me!

Apart from winning the league, getting 100 points, getting billy to score 30/202 goals, uniting the fans, getting rid if the money grabbing journeymen, winning 30 games in one season, winning manager of the month a few times, getting 5 players written off into the team if the season.....

What's Wilder ever done for us?
Yeh and changing wasters like Couttts and Freeman into world beaters and signing a Scottish hero- what has Wilder ever done for us !

Easy to say it now, but right from the start.

The clear out of players set the tone. Wilder was decisive and positive and in control of the situation from day one.

In saying that, who on earth could have foreseen the ridiculous scale of success, both on the pitch and off it? Not even Chris, I'm sure.

You've got to have ability to go with the passion. I love planes for example, the giddy 6 year old in me would have loved to be a Pilot. But if I flew you it would end quickly, messily and lots of fire would be involved, because I have fuck all idea.

They do like you to have some experience before they let you fly the big ones you know.

He made all the right noises right from the off. I must admit, the first four games a little part of me was wondering if it was going to be too much for him to turn around. I was very wrong, he's done a fantastic job so far, everybody at the club seems to be buying in to what he wants us to be.

The thing what concerned me was his interview after the Millwall game.
Being a Blade is a double edged sword and after that game Wilder looked like he'd aged.
He seemed really concerned and stressed as though he didn't know why we were losing when playing quite well. Felt sorry for him as he knows the pressure was starting to mount.

When did your love for Wilder start?, what made you say this is the man for SUFC?

I think it was this interview that made me say yes he will sort shit out and get on with the job at hand and my hetero love for the man began.

His facial expression says enough before he really speaks.

And some people think McCabe has pushed Ched up his arse against his wishes?

Tha reight, he's got till 16th August.

I won't admit I love him until we beat the pigs and Boxing Day is avenged.

So in about 9 months time :D

with a Ched Hat-Trick ............

No it's going to be a Billy Sharp hat trick with him kissing the badge in front of their Kop; Lavery and Clarke get one each, which ,as ex-pigs will annoy the hell out of them and then late on Jagielka will pop up to blast one in a la the league cup against Leeds at which point Wilder will do another belly slide in celebration.

I know the Millwall interview caused some concern at the time but I thought he handled it well. I liked that interview, I had a feeling that he would get a reaction the following week and he did. For me, he hasn't said a word I've disagreed with yet and he's been manager a year - impressive. In terms of when I fell in love with him, that belly flop when Fleck scored against Coventry was brilliant!

I thought McCabe had just gone for the cheap option. And I still think that. I don't credit McCabe one iota with knowing what he's doing in hiring or firing managers.

I thought Wilders track record was impressive - albeit at lower league. So I wasn't sure.

I saw how passionate he was at Northampton when he spoke out against the Board about their indecision and I thought
"respect".

And when I saw what he'd achieved at Northampton under extreme difficulty I thought "even more respect".

It didn't impress me one bit that he was an ex Blade. So what? So was Micky Adams and Neil Warnock and Steve Thompson. Doesn't mean anything to me. Could be good - could be crap.

I heard his first interview when appointed and I thought "this means everything to this guy" and I felt good then.

I saw the first game v Bolton and thought "that was a good performance and the best team lost". I was optimistic.

I saw 3 of the next 4 games and thought "we aren't quite there yet but if he gets a reliable goalie and gets the midfield holding onto the ball a bit better we'll be ok".

I saw him act on both these things and thought "he knows what he's doing and isn't hesitating to sort things out".

Since then he's proved to be a fantastic manager. No bullshit. No excuses. Fair and sporting too.

Total respect to the lad.

He is already right up there with the best imo.

When did my love for him start?

It didn't.

I don't love him. I respect him highly though.

I knew Wilder was the real deal the moment he put the holy trinity midfield out there. Football alchemy.

Never in my lifetime did I ever expect to see a United midfield containing 3 proper footballers. Wilders gone and proved you can do it and not only be successful... but be 100 points successful

Plenty make the right noises , Adams , Adkins , Heath and McEwan but lack the abilty to wield the axe , pat on the back , build confidence & produce winning , attractive football & unite a club again from top to bottom ... 10/10 CW bite aswell as bark

I was very impressed with and confident regards the Nigel Adkins appointment.
Loved his positivity and early interviews. Even when we lost or played badly he remained positive and upbeat, which was good but he kept up his smug positivity all through the season, even when it looked like we'd fail to reach the playoffs. Towards the end it was depressing.

So regards Wilder I lost my enhusiasm and confidence to have a viewpoint.
I kind of gave up....... and realised we could be in league 1 another 5 years.
We played OK in early season matches but found ourselves bottom of the league. I was numb still without an opinion but Wilder slowly and gradually improved and rebuilt the team.
It was the Port Vale home game where my fire was re-lit for Shef Utd and Wilder.
We won 4-0, had 4 goals disallowed and could have scored 10. We were brillant that day.
It's the best I'd seen us play in years and at that moment I knew if we could play like that on a regular basis no other team would get near us and we would win league 1.

I think you've got that spot on. Can you imagine, dream job, the one you feel you've been waiting all your life for. And it starts like that?

Became my hero the minute it became clear he wanted a midfield that could play.
Midfielders that were more than just work horses who would run about and have very little ability to supplement their fitness.
His signing of Fleck really opened my eyes and made me think...hang on, he's actually a cracking footballer!
It was unusual, not because we hadn't signed good players before, but because I had seen Fleck play and he was the type of midfield player I loved to watch...what I called a proper midfielder.
Someone who could run and tackle, but had a sublime touch and the ability to find space all the time....not one to over try but just do his job and move the ball on and get it back.

And to supplement that I admit I was concerned after 4 games...not because we had been completely shit..(well we were for Southend) but because I was tainted by previous failures and just thought that surely we couldn't struggle with the players he had brought in! But what made me realise Wilder was the real deal was that he was prepared to admit he had made an error, and prepared to change his mind for the benefit of his team.
He brought Coutts into the team. No issues, no sticking his heels in and saying he had decided he had to go and so that was that.
Wilder made the right decisions for the right reasons and wasn't afraid to admit he had been wrong by making changes....and making them quickly. He didn't dither he just got on with it.

The rest is history. From then on I believed we would get better, and after demolishing one or two sides I was adamant that if we were lucky and kept certain players fit we would go up. By January I was convinced nobody would catch us and told my lad when we went top we would stay there....and we did but for one game I believe. The strengthening in January was positive...and bringing in a player I had seem for MK and been very impressed with surprised me again....times really had changed and Wilder had done this to my club! Finally, someone who walked the walk as well as talking a good game.

Wenger recently gave an interview on BBC about the lack of English managers in the top division. His reply in short was that he felt it will change as there are some good managers coming up....I believe Wilder was at the front of his thoughts when he said this.
Simply put...If we can keep him....Wilder WILL get us promoted again. It's in his DNA to not give up until he gets what he wants. His preparations and his decisions are top class and he has the knowledge and experience to back him up.
Might take one season (and wouldn't rule it out BTW) it might take 3...5...7....but it will happen. We just have to ensure he never wants to leave us because there will be clubs up there now who have noted his success and will be watching how he does from now on. The first premier league sacking and Wilder will be in the frame for it. I'm sure of that.
