Looks like a Leeds fan to me, they haven't lost when he's reffed them!!!

Not a bad opening bat, bit dour in the Boycott modus, but scored loads of runs for Nottinghamshire and a good few for England. Gone on to be a very competent umpire. Cricket left the Lane a long time ago, though.

I saw Robinson get a big century (166 if memory serves) in the first Test match I went to. Javed Miandad time wasted more than Angus Gunn and the bloke next to me brought an enormous suitcase in which was full of cans of McEwan's.

Jesus, I'm getting old...

Looks like we’re all getting old together ...

My main Tim Robinson memrie is of an ever bigger ton than the one cooperblade saw—175 vs the Convicts, in the first Ashes Test at Headingley in 1985. I was there on the Saturday. He was short of 100 the night before, I think, then batted most of the day we were there. Tubster Botham hit 60 or 70 at better than a run a ball to liven things up in the afternoon.

It was an ordinary Aus side, as many were in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, but Alan Border, Geoff Lawson and late-era Thommo were still proper box office—at least to my still impressionable young eyes. Here’s a photo of Robinson carving one square off JT during that very innings.

We were sat at long-off, three or four rows from the front of the old main stand (aka The Fridge, RIP). My Uncle brought the mother of all picnics. Memries.
