I don’t think we messed up on Mee personally, he was still a free agent and it’s sensible for clubs to try and get perms or loans first unless the free is really top end of market, Vardy must be wanting ridiculous money if he still isn’t signed

What worries me from T post is that we are willing to over pay but we can’t beat out other teams for Thomas, who I think is decent but over valued

To be fair I would agree with you on Thomas if he goes to Coventry or another Championship club, but if he ends up in the Premier League it's less concerning we can't beat those teams considering the financial differences in the divisions.

Yep totally, can’t compete with that

But the powers that be concentrated on loans at the start of the window!! Now scratching around trying to get players permanently!! Funny that
You’d have been in even more of a tizzy if we’d have waited so they couldn’t have won could they?

But the 2 other teams in for Thomas are both Premier League teams.

If we missed out on him to another Championship club, Birmingham and the relegated clubs aside, that would be disappointing

Not sure how that works out.

We absolutely need experience behind the scenes
Yes, good experience though and people that don’t dilly dally trying to get the players in the manager so desperately needs. Again, we don’t know if this is the case but it doesn’t look fantastic from the outside does it!

We’ve fucked about for years trying to bring players in, been like a soap opera at times, it’s almost like he enjoys doing it this way for some reason. There’s looking for the best deal then there’s an alopecian bloke growing a full Orlando Bloom in Pirates Of The Caribbean by the time we get the fucker done.

The bigger problem is Bettis's football business experience is limited to 10 years working for us. Does he see the bigger picture outside BDTBL to take the club forward I don't think so. He proved this last year when he came out publicly against us having a Director of Football. Getting new owners and coach was an ideal opportunity to get in a DoF and restructure, we haven’t and that's one of the reasons the club will not move forward.

They will sell for less and likely have to replace with less and then zero guarantees of getting back up
Why? Ipswich just dumped two of theirs for sizable profit. As everyone else seems to upon relegation, unless of course you're sheffield united where you're big money british investments leave for fekkall.

Did he come out publicly against a DoF, or just say that we weren’t going down that road?

Genuine question. I vaguely remember this, but not the details.

That could really bite them on arse if they get relegated
It could. Great to see someone having a go at it though. Plenty of clubs on the slide in the Prem at the moment, looks like there's potentially room for a couple of promoted sides to stop up. Shame we're not in the mix.

Burnley look fucked though.

Yeh maybe it’s the fact that we have a great example of what can go wrong if you don’t get up, on our doorstop, that’s making me look at it that way

Yeah it looks like there’s a few Prem teams on the slide this season. One or two of the promoted teams could possibly stay up. Possibly. But the sliding teams may well spend tens of millions before the window closes to get them out of it…

You have to think that even if we had got promoted we wouldn’t have spent the money we needed to…let alone anything like the money Sunlan have…to stand any chance of staying up.

Fulham spent £100m to build a team to stay up, it took Florist considerably more (£150m?) It will take even more to stay up in the future. What have Sunlan spent £200m plus??

If we get promoted any time soon it might take a transfer spend of anything from £250m to £300m to have any chance of staying up.

Frightening.

But we'd try doing it for £30m

Big difference between overspending in hopes of getting up and overspending in hopes of staying up, imo. The latter's a lot easier to survive through firesales etc

That's because our big money British recruits are overpriced Championship players without the physical attributes to make it in the PL. Almost every other team signs athletes who are then picked up by the PL teams.

Brownie I'm not sure them not getting up was the total problem. It's partly down to Chansiris refusal to sell players. Look at the money we have raised by selling at the right time.

In contrast until very recently the pigs hadn't raised any money at all. And recently they've had to let Gassama, Windass, Famewo, Valentin, Smith, Musaba all leave for championship or foreign clubs for free or well under market value.

Spot on. The lack of athletes in our side, considering we've spent 3 of 5 years in Premier league is a bit of a joke.

He was interviewed in March 2024 by the Star and asked regarding us having a DofF. He stated that we were not having one. Despite the vast majority of clubs throughout UK and Europe having either a DoF or Sporting Director we continue not to. He needs to come into the "real" world and think outside the box.

Amazing how he knew in mar 24
What the new ownership would want to implement

That was a lot to do with the manager in situ at the time who, rightly or wrongly, wanted control of the whole football operations side.

Well he made that statement under the Prince's tenure and here we are in August 2025 under COH tenure and we still haven't got a Director of Football, typical United backwards thinking like it or not.
