I think we are seeing a lot of overacting to not having someone lined up for Anel

I’m not saying it’s ideal or hasn’t been a pain, it clearly has

But having a plan of we will sell Anel if we get a bid we can’t turn down then rely on JLT before getting a loan in, I don’t think that was a total screw up either, I can see logic of it

I don’t know if we had a replacement or not but there is never guaranteed deal unless you vastly over pay or you have something others don’t

So using Hamer as example, I think the reason it was so quick was it was lined up whilst selling Berger was we could offer prem stage plus higher wages than anyone else realistically interested

I don’t think we had any targets where we really where the best move for someone

Now to counter that I think it’s more than fair to question selling Anel at that point

But not having a direct replacement already guaranteed I don’t think is a huge screw up, I think sometimes you just have to work within market

I don’t disagree but I also don’t think there wouldnt have been plenty of players that we wouldn’t be a step up for or wouldn’t want the move.

This years equivalents of Burrrows and Cooper. Best players in league 1 or ‘lower’ end championship clubs where you can offer a decent pay rise and shot at promotion. There must have been a few centre backs in the bucket who were on our list.

Not disagreeing about players stepping up or wanting a move but if 3 or 4 others can offer the same then it becomes less easy

At this point I would dare to guess that few on our list may also have been over priced currently and that hasn’t dropped

Hence why we are looking at Thomas

Hopefully at the base of midfield with Soumare.

Can’t see it if they want reinforcements in MF before letting him go.

I’d assume him and Soumare would be charged with not letting every single counterattack run directly through the middle of us.

I didn’t think he was required with Soumare initially but Bristol city showed that we have no midfielders athletic enough to be as open as we are currently. I almost think 2 more mobile and defensively sound midfielders are a requirement with the defence being this pathetic

Wilder wanted Choudhury & Souza to form a 'double pivot' at the base of our midfield.
Our worst performances of the season came when those two played DM together.

I'm not saying that will be the case with these two, as I think they have better technical skills but it's a potential red flag. I'm not sure we should need 2 x DMs.

Agreed Capt.. Soumare and a fit Arblaster/Davies and Hamer is a good midfield 3.

Which of Choudhury and Souza do you think plays like Soumare?

From memory, Souza's stats were pretty similar.

I haven't seen Soumaré play in the league yet though, so hard to judge.
I don’t think they were, Soumare was a lot more progressive, and looking breaking lines, but I guess we’ll see. I don’t think either are similar to Choudhury and just a “ratter”.

I really rate Choudhury, wish he was still here.

A great bloke to have in the squad and turned up in big matches.

The issue is we were already one CB short before selling Anel (even with Binden in). There is just no way our senior CB options should be Robinson, Binden, RND.

If someone had asked me b4 season if Anel/Bindon/JLT and RND was the group then I would have agreed with you about needing one other

My point is if the owners also agreed but decided that if they couldn’t get a deal done for another, that them thinking we can get by and bring in another loan at end of window could see us get by, then at the point of deciding to sell Anel then I could see the logic

The Bristol city game changed that logical approach
