Tickets for the derby

Having watched the online sales ground map this morning (because I’ve nothing better to do), they are going fast. They will sell out

I wouldn't be surprised when a week before the game there are still 2000 tickets left so they sell to anyone with previous purchase history i.e. no requirement for 500+ points.

My thoughts exactly. BL Upper is near enough empty at minute. Bout 200 left on South and about 100 left on Corner. Kop wings also decent numbers left

I don't understand it either, it happens every year. Surely a few years ago, someone missed out on a ticket because their mate/family/pet dog usually buys their tickets so no points and went to the effort of actually registering on site to get the LPs - if not, you really only have yourself to blame.
To be fair, the ticket office never used to ask who tickets were for when buying, you always had to explicitly say it was for customer X to get the points on your account so its entirely plausible that someone has no loyalty history over the last 12 years - but I doubt there are 2,000 people who have no loyalty history who've also not been to 3/4 games in the last season and a bit. Maybe 100 or so.

I don't understand why you wouldn't buy a membership if your not a season ticket holder, it's free if you go to 5 games afterall??

Because they don't have the ability to go to 5+ games a season? Let's say if you live on the south coast/outside of the UK.

Or in my case, South America. But due to pure luck, my employer invited me to go to London beginning of that week, so heading up for the match (have enough points, so got it booked this morning)

True but what about neutrals/ football lovers who want to witness a big event.
The Steel City Derby attracts interest from fans who don’t support either United or Wednesday.

I was chatting to a Blades season ticket holder on Monday.
He was telling me he rang the ticket office to buy a ticket for his wife, she doesn’t normally like football but said she’d try her first Steel City Derby. The ticket office refused to sell him a ticket, said his wife needs to become a member.

He explained that his wife rarely goes to any match so it wasn’t worth it buying a membership so no ticket was bought.
You never know the wife might have caught the football bug but we are turning our back on potential fans.

Yet there are other big games she could be taken to / Leeds, Derby...Sunderland and Wolves last season. Surely fans who have the minimum requirement ( and remember that is less than 10 games in over 10 years) should get the tickets. Also, the police and in particular the Safety Advisory Group want to ensure segregation

We seem to have plenty of fans who don't seem to go to many games who we must feel sorry for without wasting emotion on "potential" supporters.

:)

Then it would be just like helping the club another way, like a small donation to your club...

Why would anyone do that? It’s a wank, spineless club with no ambition whatsoever.

I would only make such a donation if we were top of the Championship and playing some sublime football with a team full of character and pride in the shirt. Fat chance of that.

500 points, i.e buying tickets for 5 home games at some point over the last 11 years, seems an extremely low bar to clear for anyone wanting a ticket for this game.
I think what's stumping (some) is the fact that they need to be on your loyalty account. Until last season, the Ticket Office have never previously specifically asked for names and details when buying tickets so I guess it's 4/5 games in the last season and a third. Which isn't too insurmountable either tbf, apart from the exiles.

I understand the reasons because as it everything in life minority has always spoilt in for the majority. & if it is true that some season ticket holder have been abusing their privilege & buy an extra ticket for an opposition fan. but I am very disappointed because my mum likes to come to the big matches & has done for so many years. she supported utd longer than I have just thinking last few years. shes been to Wembley twice, old Trafford (fa cup under adkins) Southampton Tottenham in league cup. Barnsley away, Stevenage, chesterfield, leeds at home. there no point of buying a membership because she mainly works every Saturday so no point she'd end up paying £120 for few matches a season she can get too. so Ive always use my season ticket to get her an extra ticket. so its a shame that shes going to have miss out & few more assuming in same boat. because theyve had tighten up the rules. as I said very disappointed but understand reasons unfortunatly

but their is a good point made about neutrals because we are depriving ourselves of that. because if this was replicated you would stop football fans wanting to expierence a big game, like just in Britain. Id like to see a Merseyside, Manchester, Old firm, 2nd city derbies. but if it proceeds that would be impossible for neutrals & think about we are getting more publicity, because I dont think in my 20yrs ive ever seen a potential sheff derby between 2 sides in top 6 of 2nd tier normally 1 at the top v 1 at bottom. it would be highest place derby since 1993 when we were both in premier league. people who say that they derby doesn't interested the wider English public are forgetting that people considered the Hillsborough game 1 of most the entertaining sky broadcast last year

If she goes to a few matches a season she'd have easily enough loyalty points.

Lots of people don't live in Sheffield and can't get to games, it doesn't mean they don't want to go to a match when they occasionally come home. I know people who have flown in for the sole purpose of going to the Sheffield Derby, getting tickets was never a problem before this madness started.
Being a member of the club alone should be enough to secure a ticket, we've got about 60,000 membership holders I believe, (not sure about this but heard a few people stating this number on our various forums)

I've said it time and again we are not Man Utd or Liverpool where loyalty points, membership, season ticket holders are the only way to ensure what's fair. Our stadium has about 8,000 empty seats every week, approximately 7,000 of them in our parts of the stadium.

The 25,000 home fans that are there every week will be in the stadium anyway, so why does the club have to go through this loyalty points bollocks for the remaining seats that are never full anyway.
Someone turning up for a ticket should get one of these 7,000 seats as long as they are on the database and been vetted even if they don't have any points.

Not difficult - because the Club want to stop potential Wednesday fans getting in - and 500 points is about 8 matches in the last 12 years so not a massive hurdle.
