Thoughts on last night

I think Williamson and Camara had injections so that's possibly why they weren't up to it. 2nd half performance shows a bit of promise, and in reality we went away with a 4-4-2 formation and only got beat 1-0 by a decent side.

Think your spot on there. We all wanted blackwell to play 4-4-2, he did and as you say were undone by a badly defended corner. Any chance of a second half fight back dissapeared with the sending off.

We need to be brave enough to congratulate the idea of playing 4-4-2 away from home and hope it continues on Saturday

Do you think that the transfer policy under Robson has had no bearing on the transfer policy under Blackwell?

We'll never know for certain I suppose whether Blackwell would have still signed the Frances, the Reids and the Stewarts but I strongly believe he wouldn't have to sell some of the players that he has had to if it wasn't for the ridiculous wages paid to a group of players who had no re-sale value and who failed to get us promoted.

We're still paying for Robson/Robinson/McCabe's excess of 2007.

I think the transfer policy the year we came down is definitely affecting Blackwell's resources but I also think these funds would have been made available to any manager. I think McCabe losing most of his wealth (eventhough he is still a very rich man) also has a lot to do with what has happened since.

Nice summary Coops.

The 2nd half was great and I haven't enjoyed an away game for some time as much as last night. An equaliser was probably deserved on balance. Nosworthy reminds me of "Gus" but with brains!

TB.

Just as a bit of balance, the following is an extract from the match report on the official Forest site:

Nottingham Forest return to winning ways after beating Sheffield United 1-0 in a classic game of two halves.

Forest dominated much of the first half after taking the lead in the fourth minute. They looked by far the better side and took advantage of the time and space they were given by Sheffield United to create some good football.

United were down to ten men at the start of the second half but they fought back all the harder and it was a much more competitive second half and a tense finish to the game. But Forest defended well and held on to secure all three points.

That is a whole lot fairer now you have included McCabe. KMc wanted a known figurehead for promoting, what it appears are now largely HIS teams abroad. Yes it was a mistake to appoint Robson buit the buck stops with the genius whose idea it was in the first place IMHO.

I thought the corners were legal as, although the ball wasn't touching any part of the arc, it was over-hanging it slightly.

That's interesting, I've always thought the ball had to be on or inside the arc at the point of contact, Rule 17 actually says this:

• The ball must be placed inside the corner arc nearest to the point where the ball crossed the goal line.

I didn't think this was the same as the rule about the whole ball needing to be over a line before it is considered out of play because the issue is not whether or not it is out of play. Similar in a way to a penalty kick having to be placed on the penalty spot, I don't think a ref would allow the ball to be placed nearer the goal than the penalty spot but with a bit of the ball overhanging it.

Atmosphere - Great to know the atmosphere was "hate filled and passionate" Some people won't really know what that is and immediately assume its a bad thing. If its the same as it was in 2003 when we beat Leeds in the cup sitting (standing) in South Stand H block, standing on John St West back in the 90's - then I don't remember many other atmospheres that are more passionate and hostile. The lane, for me has turned into a family/ Steelers type atmosphere, piped Annies song and that bag of toss dance for the goals. Nothing wrong with any of that but keep it on the family stand and at Sheffield Arena. I don't want to see fighting on the terraces, but getting the passion back and creating a hostile atmosphere gives me goosepimples!

I made it to my first two games of the season in Bristol City and Forest. Was appalled how crap the atmosphere was at home and much happier with the away game. Bring back terracing.

I was fairly satisfied last night too. It helps when you have an obvious figure for bile and hatred like that referee was.

Can't argue with the sending off, but it was about the only decision he got right all night. Bartley had been scythed in half a couple of times without so much as a talking to.

The linesman was absolute cock too. There were a few times when the ball was about a yard out of play but the dozy pillock didn't see it. Trust him to actually see the off-the-ball idiocy by Henderson though.

It was good last night anyway. Cathartic. My bloody throat is killing me still though.

Just before Creswell got booked one of Forest's players did exactly the same 'tackle' on either Nos or Batley and it was ignored.

Plus I don't know how any people noticed the Linesman having a lengthy laugh and joke with Lee Camp just before the second half started.
Not very professional in my opinion.

Saw that, was right behind the goal when they were having they're little chat, looked rather cosy.

Anyone else notice the steward in the second half sat at the front with the rather disturbing eyes?! What a sight he was. Looked like he'd just heard some dirty innuendo from a Carry On Film!:D

Hodges also went in the Udinese game.

That a memorable game. If I remember rightly Basset was sent to the stands as well as Hodges, Littlejohn..plus one other? I think we lost 0-3 and were played off the park.

Remember it. Pathetic crowd, back in the days when we were back to a 3 sided ground. I think the other sending off might have been Hartfield?

You won't have to wait long. They've still got terracing at Peterborough, and tickets still available if you're still around on Saturday.

I've been looking forward to this game all season because of the terracing, and given the accounts of the atmosphere at Forest, I'm hoping for a cracking atmosphere in the away end.

I'm struggling to think of strikers during my era who've gone more than once. Littlejohn? errr....

Anyone else?

Nathan Blake got sent off at least twice - against WBA in the league and Udinese in the Anglo Italian, both in 1994-5 - but I don't think he got a 3rd red card.
Glyn Hodges may have gone 3 times (at Hillsborough and at Barnsley are two and I could have sworn there's another dismissal for him) but it's a stretch to call him a striker.

Didn't Blake get sent off at Southend once for spitting at an opponent ?

I any case we've been the beneficiary of lax refereeing on this point too.

I was sat in the Watford home end when we beat them 2-0 in 04. Our first goal came from a corner taken by Lester i think, that was a good 20 cm out of the arc.

Same old Lester, always cheating

Unfortunately, I'm back home so a bit difficult to make it. To be honest, I didn't think there would be any chance of getting a ticket for Pboro without a big stack of loyalty points so I didn't even bother to think about staying the few extra days.

Ahw ell. Enjoy it and lift the roof off (if there is one?)

Good thing you didn't stick around especially, Barca :)

i wasnt impressed with Forest at all. 3rd in the league, at home vs ten men the should have hammered us.. As one fan shouted near me, "Cloughy will be turning in his grave watching you lot, you cheating fuckers"

Too right!! Every challenge they rolled about like they'd been shot. Whats with the 1 ball system? Why did every ballboy act like he was going to catch a disease if he ran to get the ball.

Why did Forest not actually attack? Ok they looked dangerous from corners but other than that they were bobbins!

And atmosphere wise, did they sing a song? It took them 20 minutes to realise Earnshaw was been taken off and then the tossers applauded. Really disappointed with the way it turned out last night. Could have taken the game to them with 11 men.

As for Henderson, i didn't see it but the guy next to me said Red card before he pulled it out, said it was blatant elbow.

I like Henderson but with him out now for 4 games (i think) does that mean we can now play some decent football on the floor to feet and have Camara & Evans up top? Probably not, we've got Cresswell.
We are more than capable of playing decent, entertaining, attacking football on the grass even with Henderson in the team. Henderson asks for the ball to feet/chest regularly if you watch him. Its just that Blackwell likes hoofball, thats the problem.

Coops, what did Lester make of the previous incumbent of the manager's chair at Saltergate? Met/will be meeting him a few times and I'd be interested to know how he fared.

Unless he was an amazingly fast runner it can't have been Lester who took the corner as he scored the goal with a hooked shot from around 6 yards out...

Blake, Hodges and Hartfield got sent off and Littlejohn got our goal in a 2-1 defeat.
