It wasn’t so much the performance it was the togetherness and the belief as soon as that 2nd went in it was game on fair play to Liverpool tonight and no Salah or firminho which makes it more astonishing
 
Their intensity in the second half was phenomenal.

It's no coincidence Liverpool produce these performances when their support is like that. Nowhere else in England gets remotely close to Anfield on nights like this. Non stop noise and intensity.

Barca on the other hand showed a large degree of mental weakness. They went to pieces and couldn't cope. The definition of comprehensively beaten. The competition was on a plate for them and they still fucked it up. Against a Liverpool side minus Salah and Firmino. Piss poor.

The best team over the 2 games has gone through, that's for sure.

And to be fair only Man City could possibly be considered better than them this season.

But as for the Champions League in general.... I'm bored of all this crazy shit. The 'impossible' is happening far more often than it should be at the top level of world football.

I watch very few games that don't involve United. Rarely can even be bothered with England if I'm honest.

But that Liverpool v Barcelona match was extraordinarily entertaining. And so much quality on display, especially from L'pool in the second half.

Great Post mate. I was going to start a thread on Anfield atmosphere but will just add to this existing one.
We need to really ramp it up and make the Lane a. Horrible scary place for opposition teams. It really would be worth several points over the course of a season which could mean all the difference between success and. Not staying up.
 
As OP said...doth my cap...an unbelievable result, and what we will be up against nest season....can we do better at Anfield than Barcelona...of course we can....cant wait
 
On the bus back from town, a guy in front of us had the game on his phone so I asked the score "1-0", so I put the game on my phone, started out with 4 of us watching the game. When they scored 2 in a couple of minutes we were going mad (none of us particularly Liverpool fans), and half the bus was asking for updates. Scenes at 4-0!

Before the Blades celebrations earlier some Liverpool fans were in the Green Room, up here for Catfish And The Bottlemen (they'd booked tickets before the fixtures were announced). One of them was best mates with Mark Duffy at school, and was most complimetery towards us, wished us the best for next year and said they were glad we were back, etc. So pleased for them too.
 
Just to help make this more Blades related.

Barcelona may now go for Pochettino.

Spurs will be after Chris Wilder.

Be in no doubt, that the Lane crowd will ramp it up next season. That sense of being the underdogs and 'up against it' always produces the best from the fans.

Yes, it seems to be hard for the crowd to get going for the games that we're expected to win, which is the majority of home games when we're outside the top flight, but that goes for pretty much every club. Watch Liverpool at home to Palace, Watford, Bournemouth etc, and Anfield is like a library, and you can hear the players shouting to each other on the pitch.

I recall Houllier, Phil Thompson and several Liverpool players having the right mardy on after we came back to beat them 2-1 at the Lane in the League cup semi-final in 2003. Houllier was specifically moaning about the hostility of the Lane which he referred to as "a bear pit ".

At its best, the Lane crowd is a massive asset.
 
In my time as a Blade I believe I am correct in saying that we have won as many times at Anfield (1965, 1968, 1994) as they have won at the Lane (1965, 1972, 1990).

Suspect there aren't many clubs that can say that.
