My first instinct was that Alcock conned the ref and got their player sent off.
I think the offence was probably recklessness - and if so contact is not the issue, but going down clutching your chest might sway the ref if he's not sure.
Last season I think our player would have just got to his feet and got on with the game. This season there's a lot more getting in the ear and mind of the officials.
Baxter was at it early on after an incident where we didn't get a foul.
Coutts was on at the linesman from the start.
Alcock had already gone down and stayed down before the red card.
I prefer the honest approach but it cost us points last season.
It looks to me like we've gone for a less idealistic, more pragmatic approach.
Maybe their guy did try to extract Alcock's appendix with his studs, but in real time it didn't look that way to me. Either way the general point remains.
