My first instinct was that Alcock conned the ref and got their player sent off.

I think the offence was probably recklessness - and if so contact is not the issue, but going down clutching your chest might sway the ref if he's not sure.

Last season I think our player would have just got to his feet and got on with the game. This season there's a lot more getting in the ear and mind of the officials.

Baxter was at it early on after an incident where we didn't get a foul.

Coutts was on at the linesman from the start.

Alcock had already gone down and stayed down before the red card.

I prefer the honest approach but it cost us points last season.

It looks to me like we've gone for a less idealistic, more pragmatic approach.

Maybe their guy did try to extract Alcock's appendix with his studs, but in real time it didn't look that way to me. Either way the general point remains.

I've just watched the replay a couple of times and remember when you were a kid and tried to do that 'Bruce Lee' kick where you raise your left leg off the ground then the right smashes your opponent? ( in theory)

Their lad managed it today...think the ref had made up his mind straight away..

I don't think there was any intent in the challenge. Both players went for the ball, but one went for it recklessly. Letter of the law probably means it's a red card but it's nonsense.

Just edited..think the ref made his mind up immediately...re: 'honesty'..i don't think our lads have entered into 'wanker' territory yet ( waving for cards etc) but I like to see the em passionately 'discussing' decisions and the like with the ref...

I thought it was harsh at the time but looking at the replay now it looks like a red.

Just seen the highlights. Looks more like the can-can than kung fu :-)

Alcock's definitely gone for a writhe as well.

Daft.from their player and possibly a red anyway bc of the laws but Alcock did what he could to help things along.

Where are you lot seeing replays already?

Just waiting for us on Channel 5, whose coverage is cringeworthy. They should just show footbotball and leave out the awkward studio rubbish.

Rubbish ,why did he stay off at half time when he is trying to get onto the side ? It was a terrible challenge ,made contact and that is why he is on the ground.

Just seen the highlights he knew Alcock was coming so left his leg in with studs showing one of the few decisions the ref got right today .............. Red card

Why did he go off at half time then ?

Stupid,.reckless maybe from their player but didn't look malicious to me. Nigel de Jong it was not.

Alcock.went for a writhe - but not the full German roll.

This doesn't preclude genuine injury but any injury bad enough for any more than a precautionary withdrawal the player is usually still.

Possibly a red.

All of which just regurgitates what I actually posted.

Tommyrot, piffle, and balderdash.

And do you think Chė deserved a yellow?

At the time No.

It takes a specially stupid cynic to go over when it's easier to score, but some players.are.so used to diving they'll do it anyway.

Adams is nowhere near being that sort of player.

I wonder if what's happened is he's been fouled but exaggerated. *Maybe*.

Given any chance I make the point that one day a player will.be booked for a foul.and in the same incident the player fouled will be booked for simulation, diving or generally being an arse.

*Maybe* the ref missed his chance to go down in football history by sending off their defender for the foul,.giving a penalty, *and* booking Adams for offences against amateur dramatics.

Though really I suspect it was just a foul and Adams went over bc he was travelling at speed.

Incidentally the thread on this shows how hard it can be to make the right call.

If there's contact, it's a foul. Therefore penalty.

I haven't seen it again but it certainly looked like contact without touching the ball.

Their player went through Alcock intentionally, it was a blatant red card and anyone who thinks it was an honest 'coming together' has never played football. I've heard excuses that he had his eyes focused on the flight of the ball, but take Alcock out of the picture and he'd have missed the ball by about five foot.
In my opinion it was definitely the right decision and I'm not often wrong I can tell thee ;)

Not a red for me. Don't think there was any intent there at all and looking at the replay, it looks more like Alcock jumps into the side of the guys foot.

Is it not deemed a red card to have your foot raised that high.... intention to foul or not you cannot say his foot isnt high... it hits a jumping Alcock in the Ribs...

For even if it wasnt a foul if there was any contact even with the ball the slightest would cause him to fall at full pelt. Therefore even if it wasnt a foul i doubt it was a yellow either.

Disappointed this thread isn't about City Sauna.
