It has always been the case though, hasn't it? The only thing which makes it stick out even more is that two of the three mentioned are in the top flight. For years we've looked at the back page of the Green'Un and seen umpteen ex-Blades who scored that day.

I thought at the time that the Hulse deal was a good one, especially seeing as he hadn't scored a goal in his comeback season. Beattie's transfer was inevitable given his wage level at the time, and what his wage demands were alleged to be (I'm sure I read summat about £50k pw somewhere), and apart from that King Kev I said he wanted the wage bill trimming way before he was eventually sold..

Personally (given that we're all great at spending someone else's money), I'd have preferred to gamble, but then I would, being a gambling man. I suppose the problem might have been that if he had increased wages, it would have been even harder to sell at the end of the year if we didn't go up.

I thought Stead didn't get a real chance at the Lane in the end. Maybe that wasn't the right move for us to let him go. Not sure.

In any event, I still think that one deal was right, one was probably enforced, and one might have been the wrong one. I don't think there's any need for scathing attacks about them though.

I don't care what anyone says, I'd have rather up kept Hulse and Stead than buy BT.

It would also have been a lot cheaper.

Hulse did outstanding in the Prem, he may not have got loads of goals but his all round play was class.

He's finding his top form at last and how many has he bagged for Derby this season, about 15ish, so far?

Hulse..................if only he hadn't had his leg brok !

If only....................its what being a Blades about..............aint it ?

Stead was really the one that confused me.

I think he started every game in Ireland during the 2007 close-season, seemingly indicating that Robson thought he had some big part to play.

But it didn't really happen.

I don't know what happened there either. He was one of the few players we had who could actually play a bit of football. Might explain why Blackwell didn't play him but I would have thought he was right up Robsons street.
