The squad rebuild: Phase 3

We can’t currently do a Leeds next season, they had the likes of James and Gnoto to back them up when they lost Summerville. Our squad is nowhere near as deep or experienced as theirs.

I’m trying not to stress because look at the beginning of this season. The difficulty is without Hamer, Souza and Anel, we don’t have a semi solid base to build around. We have no idea what arblaster will be like when he’s back, peck is young and still developing.

At this rate we’ll have a defence consisting of Robinson and Burrows, a midfield two who are relatively inexperienced players supported by no actual wide players and a strike force that is inconsistent and can’t seem to stay fit. We’ve got to be honest that’s a huge step down in quality. This for me is the reason we need to keep wilder at the helm, and desperately try to keep hold of Hamer, Souza and Anel. Changing a manager with all that already going on seems like a great strategy if you want to become the next Norwich.

We need to sweep up any good free agents and then go after the best in the division regardless of who they play for.
Last summer + January window, we needed quantity as well as quality given how many players we'd released, we still signed quality players but first and foremost we made sure we had the players to compete.

This time we need to focus more on quality rather than quantity, we need quality players who are ready to come straight into the first team.

Even without Hamer, Anel and Souza, we've got the core of a good team, we just need to fill in the gaps.

Players who aren't necessarily guaranteed a 1st team place are highlighted, Arblaster is only highlighted due to his current injury.

-------------Cooper
Seriki-New-New-Burrows
--------Arblaster-Peck
Brooks---------------------New
----Campbell------Moore

Other players: Cannon, O'Hare, T Davies, McCallum, Robbo?, RND?, A Davies, Oné, Baptiste, Marsh, S Curtis

we got a total of 92 points won 30 games

which implies we are not as shit as some make out

just missing out hurts , forest and villa fans will be rueing not getting cl spots
we are light years ahead of where some said how we would perform this season
some had us going down the Luton route

we dont need 15 players this time, either one of the Leicester pair we loaned can be useful

Arblaster returning be like getting a 20m pound player in

not convinced with Brereton Diaz or Cannon,,, and Brewster would benefit from a fresh start
We need a better chance conversion, so a goal scorer in the 20 region. is a priority

An absolute shed load of positions to fill in theory although some can be done by loans. Upside having blaster back is like a new signing, not sure if Marsh will be ready next season but should get until late August to decide on that after the League cup games.

Pacey players? Who? We lack athleticism all over the pitch. Sunderland paid £800k for Mayenda and £3m for Isidor, meanwhile we spent £10m on a striker with the physical attributes of a 16-year-old.
JRS, Campbell, BBD, Burrows.

Promoted Seriki and Brooks to the first team.

Whether he stays on as manager or not, Wilder should be nowhere near transfers. He should be telling the powers that be what formation/s he needs players for and those paid to deal with recruitment should be identifying the players to fill those positions. Given that, he can have a fortnight or so off for me.
AI could start as the rumours what started weeks ago.

I'd be suprised if we sign anyone abroad if wilder has a say on who he signs.

Not sure on who we might sign yet, or how soon we might sign them. But I do know that we need to get this rebuild finished soon, if we're already at phase 3.

If it reaches phase 5, all the stewards at the Lane have to stand up, until we get confirmation that the rebuild is complete.

JRS lack of pace is one of the reasons he will never regularly play for Palace in the Premier League League.
Burrows is a great player, excellent delivery, good dependable player, but a lack of pace is his glaring weakness.
BBD is reasonably quick, but doesn’t have the explosive pace of Tyrese Campbell.

Campbells pace should be the benchmark for future strikers and we need at least two.

Because Moore and Cannon are slow, unfortunately in both deed and thought.

Honestly, we need a serious re-think in terms of recruitment strategy. Far too many times this season we’ve watched the entire side be absolutely dead on their arse after an hour of football. Better sides (Leeds in particular) ran rings round us as soon as we started to tire and their ability to play through a press is something we absolutely should be looking at emulating.

We need athletes first and foremost. Players who can actually put in a decent 75+ minutes before they’re tiring. We also need some technically sound footballers who don’t shit themselves when the opposition come within 10 yards of them. Build the team around Blaster & Peck (should he stay put) and replace the centre halves. Get some actual wingers in and some competition for Burrows (again, should he stay). Come up with a formation & strategy that suits how we want to play and recruit accordingly.

I can’t fault you optimistic view, but if your good core consists of cooper, burrows and two strikers of which one can only do 60 minutes a game and the other who’s finishing is atrocious. Supported by inexperienced youth players and the funniest of all suggestions RND. I need what you’re smoking.

I think I you have to remember that last summer the budget was relatively small. Burrows can play every match and has proved a superb signing. Campbell whilst with fitness issues to not play 90 minutes has proved to be an inspired signing. Campbell is no slouch neither.

We do need some pace for sure though, particularly on the wings.
But Campbells done at 60mins, we need 90 mins players, Half the team look unfit to last the full game...why?

I don't think it's half the team but I take your point on fitness. I'm not a medic or witnessing training so I've no idea what's going on behind closed doors but I guess Campbell might just not be able to play 90 minutes without risking injury. There's all the technology in the world these days to monitor players fitness so if he can't play more than 70 minutes then maybe it's just limitations in a players body.

What I've not seen mentioned around the 2nd half V Sunderland is that you have to be prepared for an extra 60 minutes, though the simple football game is - just attack.

The notion of having Re-Build is a ready-made excuse by Wilder to big up the job he has done

"We are going through a rebuild"

Every single club has to sign new players and will have a large number of the starting 11 different compared to the previous August

It's a load of waffle and something he does to make out he is working or is going to work the Oracle

He did work the oracle with a rebuild in January leading to 3rd with 92 points
