I had a thought last night about the squad these are the only players who I would be happy for them to stay and that is:

O’Hare
Peck
Bamford
Tanganga
Bindon
Brooks at a push, still think he’s not always consistent

Everyone else can leave for me as they are not good enough/fitness is way off it.

That’s 6/7 players out of a 26 man squad. The team is a mess.

I wouldn't disagree with the above we need players who are committed and prepared to put bodies on the line for the club we don't have many of them.
People give mcguinnes stick for ability on the ball but at least he is committed.
Last night Southampton used one of the oldest plays in football.
When they didn't have the ball make sure united pass it to there worse ball player and we fell for it players need to drop back and join in.
Also there was a complete lack of anyone switching play.
Some of last nights performance was players and manager issues combined.

We do need to add some genuine leadership to the squad as well.

I am talking about the leadership around standard setting and holding the squad to account.

I know he has he haters but Owen Farrell epotomises this (in a different sport, I know).

Hoever last night went down for no reason and let them get a shot away that lost us the game, no one on the pitch said a word to him (as far as I could see).

We have some really good young talent in the squad, but I don't see that they have any leaders to help them through the tougher games.

maybe Mee, but hes not really a long term option in the starting 11, Peck probably is the closest we have... and he is 21.

Chong has been the biggest disappointment. With the World Cup on the horizon you'd expect him to be at his absolute best, but he looks like a player who knows he'll get nominated and just tries to stay injury-free.

You’ve not included:

• The championship player of the year (I’m sure you’ll say he’s unfit or whatever but he wasn’t exactly lithe last year)
• Our club captain who’s been injured for a year (presumably based on a bad game yesterday, nothing like a knee jerk reaction)
• Cooper, who despite having a much worse season than last, is clearly a competent championship keeper
• McCallum who has been arguably our best player this year
• Reidewald, he’s been a game changer and hugely missed
• Others who I’ll group together in a could easily be good enough category such as Brooks, Campbell, Burrows.

All the other shit was signed during the Selles reign. Wilder only signed those 3 but inherited a load of dross which he is pretty much stuck with. Without Reidewald and Bamford we would be even worse. Whoever did recruitment during Selles reign must be fired.

You can chose to ignore data that doesn’t suit your world view, it might be because you don’t understand it but not an overly credible stance.

Cooper was excellent last year, has been mostly terrible this year. There are obviously factors impacting him this year, but that doesn’t change the data itself and both statements can be true at the same time.

For what it’s worth there’s obviously a very competent, maybe even PL level GK there, but unless he can recover his form from last year - his position as No1 probably shouldn’t rightly come under serious scrutiny.

On top of us having a massive squad, we've downgraded on all the players who've left until we brought in Riedewald and Bamford.

I'd sooner have Brewster over Ings, Robinson over McGuinness (and they're both crap) and all of last years loanees ahead of the ones we've had in this time around, where the only major flop was Harry Clarke and us not using Rob Holding more.

Barry and Ogbene vs Rak Sakyi for example is barely even a contest.

I'm not sure how the data has been interpreted for the players we've signed but I doubt very much that any of them were exactly showing anything outstanding on the graphs vs the average so god knows what the rationale was other than "shit, time's running out and we've got no players".

CW is trying to right the wrongs where he can but as usual, it won't be until right at the very end of the window that anyone appears.

Just keep matching or bettering Blackburn and Pompey's results and get the damn season over with.

Not really sure how to respond to that, but I will try…

The above cements my assumption that you do not understand this sort of data, in terms of what it means and importantly how it should be interpreted - as data on its own is meaningless.

I do not think Cooper is the worst GK in the championship, nor will you find any posts from me stating so. Coopers is statistically the worst performing GK this season and that is a different point to his relative ability. The interpretation of this data is probably that Cooper has an underlying injury and not at full fitness an that is impacting his performances.

I’ll gladly try to explain the above match, caveated by the fact I haven’t seen any highlights and the figures you’ve mentioned are new to me. Firstly xG obviously does not equal goals nor who deserved to win, more the quality/ease of chances created. A nice example of this being penalties have a xG of about 0.76

The assumption would be Norwich took there chances with fairly ruthless efficiency and WBA did not. But as you suggest meaningless data points in isolation as Norwich trounced WBA 0-5. Also xG is generally not that useful for single match analysis

We can’t keep blaming a poor 6 games on what is happening now … Chris is failing to get a consistent tune out of a group of players that should be picking up more points.

I agree a large part of the squad is not up to standard but this makes it even more baffling that he plays them whilst others are benched …

His media interviews are equally baffling and he appears divorced from reality
