When we lost Coutts earlier in his career we knew what we would be missing.
We would have to accept that we would be lacking in composure, creativity and the ability to maintain possesion significantly during that game or two.
This time around whether it's due to our momentum, lack of depth or the potential length of his absense, it was clear to see that we have lost a lot more.
Nerves started to show. Firstly (or at least visibly) amongst the supporters.
Who would replace him? Can we play the same? Do we need to play a different formation?
For a team mocked for being a group of hardworkers with momentum on their side, the threat of losing that momentum and confidence was scary.
I don't need to remind you about our current form, I don't need to tell you what position we moved up to the day Paul got stretchered off. What some people do need reminding of though is that we have 3 of the most exciting central midfielders that I have ever seen in my lifetime.
This season we have had to make do with losing a lot of key players already and I still firmly believe that we find it harder to replace Duffy and Fleck than we do Couttseh. With Ched, Freeman and Lavery almost ready to return. Numbers wise we are stronger than we have been for a long time- but my main reason to be optimistic is young Brooks still.
Of late the pressure has been on Brookseh. I won't go as far as to say that it crumpled him but I will say he's looked desperate. To be fair to him, we have all been, but he has looked like he has been forcing things, going down a lot more, not enjoying himself as much. If we can some how build that confidence and composure up in our midfield then our style of play will shine through again and I'm sure that Brooks can have free rein to float, dribble and create things like we all know he is capable of.
I don't believe he will leave in January. Wilder wants to keep him and while he's already getting international recognition in a promotion pushing side then why would yound David want to either? Especially after seeing how little big clubs care about your progression like at City. There's a reason premiership clubs are sniffing around him and nobody else at the Lane. He's special and while we might have to alter the way we play slightly now there is no way that Duffy, Fleck and Brooks can't keep us in the top 6 and get us into that lottery that is the playoffs.
Wilder deserves our belief. Don't get me wrong he also deserves 10 million quid in January, but that's out of our hands. We have a few huge weeks coming up (and my God how long does it feel between games after a loss?) but a win on sky, wins around Christmas in front of a sell our Bramall Lane, and a Sheffield double, will seriously put us back in dreamland.
Merry Christmas to you all, a big thanks to Foxy Linz
