that all but four* players have been released or paid off but it's not been announced because not all the players involved know their fate yet

* estimate. Don't shoot the messenger if we end up with 6 or 7

Bit shit that the likes of Magic Mike know before players who are losing their jobs!

It would be nice if the new manager and chief executive can bring some professionalism to the club!

Bit hard on Basham if he has been let go imo. No world beater but the lad has heart, can play in 3 positions, rarely gets injured and after a very shaky start showed real character to become one of the first on the team sheet. We could have done with a few more like him at times over the last 2 seasons.

Bash can go for me...yeah, he has the odd decent game where he 'puts it in', but is mostly ineffective/anonymous, headless chicken...who can't head the ball...which kind of makes sense, considering the headlessness of said chicken...

Surely we could get fees for Scougall and McNulty? Not big ones but something?

But he isn't. That's where he has played for the vast majority of his xareer. Left back / left midfield. Luckily he won't have to play there again

Yes then he was moved up front and was top scorer for Rochdale thats why we signed him
We didnt sign him when he was playing left wing back for Rochdale did we ?

The more I listen to us "being surprised by who is staying and who is going", the more I think we should set the expectation that only two or maybe three will come in, that we are selling off at least one player of value (or potential value in Che Adams), and that some players (who we want rid of) will be offered a new deal on lesser terms/money, because it is a cheap option.

On saying that, I am really hoping that Wilder and Knill had already done a ton a scouting, in the run up to promotion with the Cobblers (great name, always makes me think of old man Steptoe), and have a list of cheap, free, unearthed non-league gems, whatever you want to call them.
Apparently wilder was going to
McCabe payed off Collins and yes he also intimated at the Fan meeting or corporate meeting (or both) that he was going to have to pay people up, because they would not leave and no one would be coming in for them.
if we pay players contracts off, are they then free to sign for someone else, with no recompense to ourselves.

He has no discernible positive attribute. At least Monty had positional play and could tackle.

If they get released I imagine we wont be paying off and they'll have agreements for pompey/fleetwood to sign them...teams that maybe wouldn't stump up cash for the players, signing on fees and wages....or there were agreements already in place for that to happen.

Any news on the retained list?

You'd think with nine pages of fist shaking you'd have learned something.

As good as it sounds to ship a load of old shit out. Some of these players arn't that bad as squad players like ncnulty. Be a shame if the likes of done, long and basham have gone.

We can't possibly be left with just 4 pros at the club. Fair enough not retaining out of contract people. But can we really sign an entire squad in a summer?

Makes me wonder..... "Sunjihai" on here had mentioned Wilder was coming in a while ago. Could it be that the deal for him to come to SUFC had been in the bag for a few weeks and he and Knill have already been lining players up and deciding who was on the way out?

Sounds a bit far fetched but if the rumours of widescale butchery are true, I assume he has people waiting in the wings?

I think so mate, they would be free agents

I cant see anyway McEverley been retained now, after having the captaincy taken from him, he will be gutted. its time for him to move on.
Although loads of players are not going to be offered new deals, we will have what will be like three new signings in Freeman, Scougall and McNulty. These players are all good young players who are still under contract for next season. They have have had their confidence drained away by Adkins, before been dispatched out on loan. Its a new start for these players under a new manager, who may well want to get them back into the squad. They will hopefully will be busting a gut to get back involved and will see this as a new start.
Freeman for me was very harshly treated by Adkins. He was probably our best defender early in the season and fits the bill as the type of player CW wants, being young and energetic. Yes we have good academy players, however Freeman, Scougall and McNulty are good young players that have experience of first team football. All three look miles ahead of the likes of Whiteman, DCL and others that I have seen from the academy.
I personally would give a new deal to McGahey, another young player not given a chance by Adkins. He dropped him after he had done nothing wrong. He looked like he had improved to me and has the potential to become a regular, if given the chance. Yes, we need two big cente backs, however he should be retained and if he breaks into the team kept in. Although I rate Kennedy, McGahey does not have the same injury problems that Kennedy has, so may be the better option of the two, if one is to be retained.
personally i wouldn't play freeman in defence he can't track back but i would put him back in his old roots as a midfielder which he was when he was at Forrest. Play him at RM and tell him not to worry too much about defending and get forward attacking, scougall needs to stop trying to receive bad tackles which cause him injuries Peterborough (A), Mcnulty i hope gets another chance but needs to give it his all like he did under clough

Just rip it up and start again. Che, Billy, Beard and Long plus the players Wilder wants. This gives us a fighting chance of ridding the stench of failure from the club. Just a shame McCabe isn't out of contract as well.

McC has moved heaven and earth to get Wilder and Knill in, well done Kev.

He deserves credit for nicking 'em from Charlton.

Yes yes, even though you think they are incompetent? No?
I'm pissed off we're more or less the last ones to announce our retained list.

I'm pissed off that this is because our board are incompetent.

Just generally pissed off about the whole thing. :)

You seem to be saying that just because we know the board are incompetent, we shouldn't complain about things they could have done if they were competent? If I'm not mistaken.
