It's a BullseyeCW is in the know regarding our players. I heard him say on saturday ' its a big job, we've got some really s**t players' or worse to that effect. I think thats a fairly accurate summary of our squad
If anyone hasnt seen this yet, its well worth a minute.....
I for one, wouldn't expect Wilder to invade McCabes territory .............................."I'm not fannying about with it"
Quality statement
But just how feasible is it to release most, if not all, of the team? Is it possible to recruit and sign enough players in the summer to allow him to do it - and how much balls does it take to do it before you've got the signings lined up? Under Adkins, I was sure it wouldn't happen. Now I've no idea.

Funny how they always emphasise winning games of football. I'm not sure what other games they play there, netball, tiddlywinks, cluedo?
The more I listen to us "being surprised by who is staying and who is going", the more I think we should set the expectation that only two or maybe three will come in, that we are selling off at least one player of value (or potential value in Che Adams), and that some players (who we want rid of) will be offered a new deal on lesser terms/money, because it is a cheap option.
On saying that, I am really hoping that Wilder and Knill had already done a ton a scouting, in the run up to promotion with the Cobblers (great name, always makes me think of old man Steptoe), and have a list of cheap, free, unearthed non-league gems, whatever you want to call them.

It depends. If we stick to our goal of having around 20 first team players, I think if we keep a keeper on and release the rest we'd already be up to 15 players based on the squad in the pinned contract thread (which doesn't include some of the young players included on the bench towards the end of the season). So that would mean signing 5.
Given we need to really shift on others still in contract though, we'd perhaps need more than 5 to get us to that vibrant energetic powerful squad of 20.
Don't think it's that many Loughboro. By my reckoning, we've got 12 definitely contracted first teamers plus 5 U21s, 2 optional extensions and 1 likely to sign. Of the 10 contracted 1st teamers, I wouldn't be surprised to see two (Woolford and Freeman) move on as it's not worked out for either here while I can see leftfield preseason training offers for Cuvelier and Kennedy (1) and an extension for Campbell-Ryce (2).
0 GKs:
3 Def: Brayford, Freeman*, Wallace
5 Mid: Woolford*, Coutts, Reed, Basham, Scougall
4 Fwd: Sharp, Adams, Done, McNulty
2 Options: Flynn, McGahey
1 Likely: Long
5 U21s: Calvert-Lewin, Whiteman, De Girolamo, Brooks
5 U18s: Ramsdale, Crofts, Kelly, Gordon, Semple
Released: Howard, McEveley, Kennedy(1), McFadzean, Cuvelier(1), Baxter, Willis, Wallace J, Campbell-Ryce(2), Harris
End of loan: Edgar, Hammond, Sammon, Baptiste
People seem happy with how he interviews, and thats the main thing obviously...
What disturbs me is more fans suggesting that we need to keep the same set of players and that they were simply 'mismanaged'.
Most need to go.
"Paul?.......it's your Agent......yeah good mate, you?.........you know you're on £10,000 per week at The Lane, well Rochdale will offer you £2,000 a week with a £10,000 signing on fee.......[line clicks dead]....hello?.........Paul?"
The striker with the selfie-stick in the hotel room?No Cluedo at Bramall Lane .........................
I'm inclined to think that it might actually be more brutal than was first imagined.
Initially Adkins had to look at the 21 out of contract players and decide who he would be keeping with most of us concluding not many.(Out: Howard, Willis, Harris, McEveley, Kennedy, McGahey, Evans, Banton, Cuvelier, Wallace J, Heh, Maw, Flynn, Campbell-Ryce, Hamilton, McDonagh, McFadzean, Coustrain, Baxter, Cockerline, In: Long). There's only a few outs that could make any sort of case to be an in and even so it would only be as squad players. He might want to avoid having to get himself a 4th choice centre back and reconsider one of the young lads for instance or given we now have no wingers, he might want to keep one of Campbell-Ryce or Flynn as back up instead of having to recruit 3 instead of 2 wide players.
Adkins has in all likelihood done the interviews before he got sacked. What is there left for Wilder to do? If he agrees then he has no need to speak further with them. If he needs to call someone to retain then, not much needs to be done. Offer same or reduced terms and you can publish that they either accepted or they are considering. It needn't delay the list.
To me, when he said no fannying about, the next part was that he would be very straight and if people were not in his plans he would tell them. That insinuates that there will be players who are in contract that he simply doesn't rate and he'll either be pushing for their early release or he'll be agreeing to list them. Players in danger in my opinion would be: Freeman, Wallace K, Woolford, Coutts, Scougall, McNulty, Diego.
Not much time to wait anyway. He needs everyone pulling in the same direction and being a Unitedite, I can see him managing the club's money as if it were his own. Something Adkins nor Clough can claim given the former recruited expensively from the league above and the latter recruited in unnecessarily copious amounts.
I've not seen many (any?) fans suggesting that we NEED to keep the same set of players, just that it's a far more complex issue than "retaining George Long and then just rebuilding the squad".People seem happy with how he interviews, and thats the main thing obviously...
