The ref

Total disgrace that referee, fell for the Blackburn players antics every time.

Mowbray makes himself out to be an old school, salt of the earth manager - but you're not telling me a team can cheat, dive and whinge that much and it doesn't come from the management team.

Couldn't have happened to a worse bunch of cunts.
He's managed Middlesbrough and hes a nasty old cunrt. Seems to be a trend thete I think.

PH nailed it: "The red card and the penalty, he got right. Everything else, he got wrong."

That was the same ref from the Milwall game, and he gave us fuck all in that n'all. He'll end up getting a decent score because he got the 'big' decisions correct, but everything else was just totally and utterly shambolic. I thought his display in the Milwall game was bad, but that from him last night was fucking garbage. Blokes running the line were fucking clueless n'all.

The Ref was shocking, for both sides even though they were a set of cheating cunts.

I can’t stand referees at the minute, they’re doing themselves no good by the performances they’re putting out there, it’s embarrassingly bad.🤬🤬🤬

There were so many baffling decisions it was untrue. People can go on about Berge being lucky to get away with not being sent off if they like, but he shouldn't have been on a yellow in the first place.

The free kick given to them out wide in a dangerous position (where Fodz made that reaction save at the from post) almost gifted them the win and that was all because Baldock had the audacity yo get tight to their player and place a hand on his back which resulted in their lad going down as if he was shot.

There was another time when their lad (Gallagher I think) towards the end felt a United player within a yard of him and went down in the box beseeching the ref for another penalty. Downright fucking cheating. The United players should have surrounded him and told him to have the bollox to make a decision either way and either give a pen or book the cheating fucker. The ref did neither. Bottle less twat. Even when we scored I was waiting for the twat to find something to disallow it

The linos last night couldn’t make a decision to save their lives. Lost count of the times the ball went out and they didn’t raise a flag either way. Just waited for the ref, who invariably gave the decision to Rovers. Quite apt that Blackburn wore yellow for all their cowardly diving and shithousing tactics.

It was like they were waiting for someone else to decide every decision. It's performances from officials like that which makes me think some of them are bent.

I looked up the duties of Linesmen in the FA rules:-

Assistant referees
They indicate when:
  • the whole of the ball leaves the field of play and which team is entitled to a corner kick, goal kick or throw-in
  • a player in an offside position may be penalised
  • a substitution is requested
  • at penalty kicks, the goalkeeper moves off the goal line before the ball is kicked and if the ball crosses the line; if additional assistant referees have been appointed the assistant referee takes a position in line with the penalty mark
The assistant referee’s assistance also includes monitoring the substitution procedure.

The assistant referee may enter the field of play to help control the 9.15m (10 yards) distance.

I'm surprised they are supposed to indicate which team is entitled to take a throw in. Most games nowadays it seems the linesman puts his flag up then waits for the referee to indicate which way the throw should be taken. Is this a new unwritten rule or is it down to the referees/linesmen on the day? It seems to me linemen only draw attention to the ball going out of play - be it for throw in, goal kick or corner. They usually seem to indicate whether it should be a goal kick or corner but rarely give the decision for throw ins. They sometimes draw attention to foul play but seem to frequently miss blatant shirt pulling etc right in front of them.

Of course all refereeing would be much simpler if players didn't cheat. I'm tired of players going down, rolling around in apparent agony, screaming, holding a part of their body that hasn't been touched - then getting up a few seconds later and running around as though nothing has happened. Problem is that if the referee is weak, the perpetrators get away with it

I was concerned at one point last night that the Russians had started laying land mines in the pitch after looking at the bad way that Joe Rothwell was in after he had come into contact with Berge. It looked a bad one the way he was wriggling around like a cut in half worm. Then somehow and fair play to the trooper he managed to come back onto the pitch and carry on. He must have driven himself through the pain barrier when moments later he danced after a loose ball like a spring lamb. Wonderful recovery. He should sell his secrets to the NHS to help them get people out of beds and back in their day jobs within minutes of having a major operation. Jesus treating that geezer who had leprosy would have been impressed last night with the powers of Rothwells recovery. Cheating fuckers.

Yes he was bad and yes he did get two big decisions correct, but sometimes when a referee gets the crowd riled it can, in a perverse way work to our advantage, the crowd becomes more vocal and their support of the team gets louder which absolutely gees up the team, the team also gets more determined, so last night's result could in some way be because of the referee and not in spite of him

It's a very strange one this, the ref made all the big calls correctly... unfortunately it was probably enough for him to keep his job.

Also a foul throw was given at one point. Been a VERY long time since I saw one given. Even though we've all probably seen hundreds of foul throws down the years never given.

An absolute disgrace, lost control. Clearly not up to officiating at this level.

Was he really that bad ?

Red card 100%

Penalty was a penalty 100%

It was a proper game and we got in Blackburn's face to stop them playing

in the commentary just after that incident, Hendrie said, well its alright trying to run those types of injury off,,,but he isnt kicking the ball, thats when the real test will come,,,a minute later he hammered a free kick into the box from midway in our half,,,,silence from the commentary team.

Just watched all the game again this morning and he wasn't as bad as what I thought at the time.
Let's say we pushed the boundaries quite a few times and could have finished with less players on the pitch than we did.
Strongarm Blades kicking lumps off the opposition, about time👍

We talk about inconsistency but when Gallagher went down theatrically in the box without so much as being touched by a United player the ref does nothing. Take us back a few months to MGW against Millwall and regardless of whether it was a foul or not he sprinted across to him to brandish a second yellow. After those two performances against us rightly or wrongly you can understand why some may question his integrity

After reflecting on the ref last night, the thing that pissed me off the most is he gave us a FK for a theatrical dive from their number 7 in the box but no booking. He sent MGW off for diving with a second yellow. No consistency in decisions.

One job lino at a pen, watch the goalies feet - reply on tv shows Wes was (just) off his line, would have been harsh, but technically it should have been a retake

Berge could have got a straight red for droppin the nut on their player with eyes no where near the ball

Can’t argue with penalty or red

Think you know a refs had a shocker when both sets of fans think he’s wank

The incident in the first half when Rothwell, not only went down, in the area, but did it in some totally implausible way, didn't register with the ref, and both commentators I have seen said, he tripped over the ball, it was a blatant if poorly executed dive!

Agree that the ref was useless last night but the level of theatricals from today’s players is shameful. Just watching the Arsenal v Wolves game and the falling over by both sides at the slightest of touches is a joke. Add to that the usual weak ref’s and you end up getting the players running things on the field.

Agree re Berge's challenge. he did appear to just head butt him!

REFEREE KNEW HE MESSED UP WITH BERGE'S YELLOW, AS STATED LOADS OF TIMES ALREADY.

I think all of Robinsons were foul throws aswell as his feet cross the line but should be on or behind it

Refereeing quality in championship is terrible. It's bad in the premier league hence why they have a team of people officiating via VAR. Why football doesn't move to two officiating I'll never know. The AFL model has 9 officials including a chief Umpire to monitor field of play as well as TV officials for touches and behind decisions. Not saying it's perfect by any means but umpires don't take the limelight.

Last night's ref was a fucking nob and shouldn't referee again though.

I take the opposite view, if both sets of fans think he was bad, he’s probably done alright.

Of course he made mistakes, but the penalty was fair enough and no arguments about Goode’s red.

Berge’s yellow probably wasn’t even a foul, he just had longer legs than their bloke. If the ref had sent him off for his inexplicable eyes shut jump in the second half, we would have been outraged, maybe the ref did know he’d got it wrong and let him off (the linesman only yards away didn’t even flag for a foul).
