My memory seems to deteriorate every year, but the news that we're after 1 permanent and 3 loan signings reminded me of something McCabe said in June when we were being fobbed off about money for signings.

Did a bit of digging: https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foo...ilder-receives-a-transfer-guarantee-1-8626032

Although completing those deals are the United manager’s immediate concern, Kevin McCabe has revealed that both he and fellow co-owner HRH Abdullah bin Musa’ed bin Abdulaziz Al Saud will ensure he can also access funds midway through the campaign.

“You can say football seasons can be a game of two halves. If you have got it wrong, then in January, you have a chance to readjust. If you have got it right, there is a chance there to reinforce.”

I'm not one of these people who expects us to suddenly start throwing around millions, but I had expected £3/4 million considering past promises, league position and the amount of sell-on fees we've brought in.

I recognise that the club has been losing money for years and appreciate what McCabe has done for us, but it's not just a case of us not spending the money we need to it's about breaking a promise to our greatest asset, our manager.

It's not a case of spending the money we need to get promoted, I think that's beyond us now even on a decent budget. It's about consolidating our position in this league. Above midtable. To show players in summer that they will be joining a team with potential to get promoted.

McCabe said in the summer that if we’re in with a chance at the top end or in a relegation fight in December then funds would be available for the manager to strengthen in the JTW

From what Wilder has said in the last day or so then we’re actively looking to do just that.

To be fair Swiss the OP has a point, £3-£4m is realistic yet we’ve spent precisely fuck all this January transfer window.

Wilder isn’t one to hold back if he thinks that the club doesn’t match his ambition. I’ve not seen any comments attributed to him that suggest he isn’t happy with 1 permanent and 2/3 loans - is it not feasible that he doesn’t want permanents because the best players to get us up might not necessarily be the best to keep us there?

We're a 'Billy Sharp is past it' Thread away from having a full house in International Break Bingo. Oh wait didn't we have one of those a couple of days ago?

Fuck me, there really are some morons on here this week who are struggling to tell the difference between the real world and Championship Manager....

A sensitive and compelling depiction of the Armenian genocide, but not Oscar Isaac's best work imho

But if we don’t spend the recognised amount of £3- 4 million it is correct to say that we have been sold down the river ?
Beatie flu?

Yep, the morons who think a league 1 player and 3 loan signings are the investment promised and that our manager is really happy having his hands tied like that.

It could be enough, and January is often a dodgy time to buy unless a player is reaching the end of his contract, but being restricted to basically relying on loans is ridiculous when we were told, in summer, that he would be backed. He's clearly not being backed.

Chris needs to have the ability to improve the squad when he gets the chance. The chance may not arise in January, but if players are available that he wants at a decent price and he can't sign them, then we're stuffed. Summer comes, we lose 5 first team players and have to start again.

Here we go again...

My personal favourite part of these multiple threads is the "Wilder walks if Kev don't spend" bit.

Can't have enough of these threads, me.

Where did I say that? I made the point that it's a dangerous game to promise something and not deliver. It's hardly likely to make the person who was promised something happy, is it?

Really? Why not? Hasn’t he identified the targets and haven’t we already got bids in for Leonard?

Wilder will have his own ceiling for Leonard and then move on, like he did in the summer

Where is this evidence that Wilder is not being backed, given that it’s over a week before the window opens

Rest assured we can all agree that in December the promise of backing in the January transfer window has not been delivered upon.

You know Wilders unhappy? That's a fact is it?

Isn't this a bit early for you Robbie or have you been out all day?

We're after Ryan Leonard and 3 loan signings. So yep, it hasn't!

Funds will be made available when we sell...

It's the United way.

I suppose a top ten position constitutes a successful season.

A very successful season, for me, given our squad.

If he makes 100k available, does that not constitute funds having been made available?
For me it’s never about a set figure, but as we have seen with other clubs in the region, bringing in players to do a job is much more valuable than the actual price tag... Jordan Rhodes is a prime example.

Ok, I'll humour you for a second...

Do you think McCabe will call Wilder on 2nd Jan and tell him he has £com to spend?

Or do you think if Wilder finds a player who can add to what we have and has a potential resale value and presents this to McCabe/Board - do you think it'd get knocked back?

When it's all said and done, The Great Man himself summed it up best in the Summer when talking about "spunking moneh"...

Did you happen to watch the behind the scenes video on deadline day day?
