The Players aren't happy

I can't help but think a lot of this is being caused by Jack Robinson.

He's the captain. He's out 'most influential' player. He wants to leave. He's being told no, until we have signed replacements. He very obviously tried to get himself sent off at Birmingham. Rumours that he told McBurnie to avoid coming back as he thinks Selles is a "clown".

He clearly has a lot of sway in the dressing room. If our captain's unhappy, that's going to roll downhill.

Gerrim gone.

I know it's only 2 games in, but the question is, how long do we give it before accepting we got it wrong bringing Selles in and that change is needed.

8 more games.

No players like losing games, regardless of whether they like the manager or the system or not, they looked happy in preseason because we were winning in preseason.

Problem is, when your captain and someone who is supposed to be a leader wants to leave, it will likely be creating a bad feeling in the dressing room, and the longer he's here the worse it's going to get.

If that is the case, the second a new CB (Thomas, Zatterstrom, Mepham etc) is signed, Robbo should be out of door, even if it still leaves us light at CB against Millwall.

It's a poor example to be setting to the rest of the players, especially the younger ones who look to the older players (especially the Captain) for support/advice etc.
I just wrote something similar thinking maybe this fact had been missed.

Don't underestimate the power of a negative voice in the dressing room, particularly when it's someone you're told to look to for leadership.

I think giving them a public bollocking out on the pitch is a questionable way to man manage. It certainly didn't lead to any uptick in Hull's performances when Phil Brown did it.
I think everyone's agreed the owners are mainly to blame but bugger me it's a big move in your first match isn't it? And it is for show isn't it, showing that it's not you it's the players, utterly selling them down the river. If there are some shitehouses in the squad that's not going to win them round is it.

Pretty ballsy calling out the board after 2 matches too.

Selles has been let down. From above by the board and below by the players feeling sorry for themselves.

Stop feeling pity and making excuses for grown men, supposed professionals, well paid and, we know, skilled yet apparently only now incapable of doing the basics properly.

This isn't f*king Spacejam!!

They just don't fancy it.

They're bottling it

We changed to 4-2-3-1 today.
If we have some actual CB cover and experience rather than the threadbare squad we have, we probably win that today. If we had a Anel/souttar type of CB partnership, had kept hold of Vini alongside Soumare for the 2 in front. We have the defence that at least gets a point, there were so many games last season that were won by the odd goal and “getting lucky” by creating our own luck.

So far the manager has shown no signs he knows how to implement what is a simple system. There isn't much nuance to it so it's confusing how such a simplistic system integration is totally lacking. The players seem totally confused. Spacing and shape and who picks up who in defensive transitions is ad hoc. What have they been doing all pre season? You'd expect to at least see a pattern.

Got talking to a bloke before the match who was staying in the team hotel. Said he’d never seen such a miserable lot at breakfast and as for he was concerned we had already lost. No axe to grind, not a fan of either team wasn’t even going to the match.

Get fucking rid now. Not Selles,' fault and nothing against the bloke but he has been dropped in a vat of boiling oil by these fuck witted owners we have been saddled with (again). Jesus Christ - from 3rd to bottom in one easy step. A masterclass in how to tear a club apart. Fuck off COH (not you Callum lad) but whoever COH are. We don't even know that do we? Not asking for owners to come in and spunk millions (like the pigs are) but owners who at least have a fucking inkling about football and who dont strangle our club in an attempt to make money for their faceless/nameless mates would help.
Most people have worked for a poor boss at some point. It's not motivating it's the opposite. Also he shouts at them all of the time which is poor man management.

Just got back, drove down and back in the end, the players looked gutted when they came over then (as you'll have all seen) they got dogs abuse frome some...

I was clapping them and Cooper looked devastated, they only came over to apologise and acknowledge the fans...

At some point we are going to have to go through the pain barrier to get to where we have a team that can compete at the top level, because we know what happens when we go into the prem with the old "up and at em" style.

Will Seles' get time..?

Flattest away end ever today and with good reason, but they were crap Swansea, and were there for the taking...

Tough season ahead?

Yep..

Yeah I was at the same hotel. It was because they’d run out of black pudding, the beans were cold and the toaster on the blink. The warm milk on their Frosties was the final straw. Piss poor preparation. No wonder we lost 🙄

They aren’t playing well and lack confidence, I would be more concerned if they were all having a great time and treating it like a training camp

As for sacking selles etc etc, it’s completely pointless bringing anyone in if you are going to then bring another manager in who might not want to work with any of them

If you are giving Selles this window you have to give him at least until the next window before acting

Just sticking some bladey blade get them to run around and get stuck in type won’t really solve it, you will find yourselves with another mickey Adams situation and I still feel sorry for Mickey regarding that season

Because it’s not guaranteed that even if we threw money at them that a Dyche or Cooper or O’Neil or whoever will come here

Even if/when Selles goes, no serious manager would touch us if we're bottom with no money to spend

That was always my concern. Wilder was clearly a good man manager and created a good team spirit but his football was boring. Seems to be a feature of Spanish and Portuguese managers they seem joyless and over serious, eg Arteta, the Fulham manager and others. Selles seems to have the same mindset.

Sellés has never kicked a ball professionally. His managerial record is shocking. Who thought he’d be an appropriate appointment?
