If we win our game in hand we’ll be 14 points behind Peterborough in 6th place. However, we still have to play the Posh. So if we can beat them, the gap is potentially just 11 points. We still have 17 games to play. That’s 51 points to play for. We’d need to go on an amazing run, but if we did, we could potentially be within striking distance of 6th place by the end of the season.

Blades to get promoted and win the FA Cup, while the pigs get relegated. You heard it here first.

I was thinking of doing a post like this, but then I thought of the backlash. So good luck and I agree well within a chance

Please lets not become Wednesday fans, for christs sake. That was our second away win of the season, if we finish 20th, Clough will have done a sterling job, but for the love of God, playoffs? There's optimism, and there's this!

One game at a time imo.
The Play Offs wouldnt even be on the radar for NC atm. Its all about ensuring safety & then going from there.

Let's just get clear of relegation first. I argued in early jan that after a couple of decent results that our league form suggested that we were heading up rather than down....

Cue spending the last month and a half within the relegation zone.

ok , how mad is it , if we had played 32 now our 3 in hand and won them wed be on 41 points now , 8 adrift , in that scenario , would it be possible to make up 8 points in 14 remaining games, as he said one game is v posh at home so it becomes 5
its never over till its over,
2 wins in 2 games in hand takes us to joint 11th , top half by the end of March

WOW!
We have one game in hand over Posh so that's 14 points behind if we win it.
Maybes 11 behind if we beat them in the head to head.
I know there's optimism and there's keeping the faith but yours seems to be on another astral plane :)

When I realised how far a win moved us up yesterday, I have to admit I was guilty of checking how far we was off the playoffs (like the typical unrealistic blade I am). Then had a reality check and realised how close we still at to the bottom four.

And our rearranged games are against Brentford, Peterborough and away at Crawley.

If we even achieved the 9 points from those you suggested so flipantly, then I'll show do a naked handstand in the centre circle on the last game of the season.

Palace were 11 points behind , having played the same number of games , if we win 2 games in hand we will be 11 points behind , and with posh to come at home it levels out

the 3 games you mention , yes they are stiff , but to go up any time wouldnt we have to win them /Surely we should win our home games to get amongst the play offs , and Crawley away , its not aston villa is it

All Im saying is its been done before in similar circumstances , you have to have other results go for you , but it is do able

Its never over till the fat lady sings , at Wembley

Bradford capitalized on the games in hand they had last season from the cup run and got into the playoffs, but they wasn't 1 points off relegation. Lets just stay up and push on next season. But IF we did get in playoffs and promotion we should give Clough the freedom of the city...........

It's not just the team in 6th to worry about though is it? There are 11 teams between us and 6th, all having played a varying number of matches. Let's wait 10 games and then start looking again eh? :)

Lets get comfortably safe first and see where we are when we are that.

If NC can achieve what he has by inheriting what he did and 1 transfer window then we can be very optimistic about next season.

We'll have at least 4 games in hand, because of the re-arranged Rotherham game. 5 if we get to the semis. And I've been checking the gap from the play-offs all season, even during the darkest hours of Weir's tenure. It ain't over 'til it's over.

Let's exercise a small amount of control over our horses here. Our form is good but we are still deep in the relegation mire.

Plenty of home points to play for so if we can makes all those pay to start with then that will see us over the line for safety and hopefully mid table. Interesting though to see that on the road we still have a good few games against teams do at the wrong end of the table, hopefully we can get our head on and win some of these.

Every position higher that we finish would be a bonus. Whilst ever it is mathematically possible I will try and believe we can do it, ambition never hurt anyone.

The thing with League 1 at the moment is that it looks like every fixture from now until the end of the season will have something riding on it, can't see any 'dead rubber' games.

Peterborough are on course to get 75 points which is the average of what clubs have needed to get into the top 6 of L1 over the last 12 seasons.

Which means we only need to get 43 points out of our last 17 games.

This is only just over 2.5 points per game.

Our club record number of games without league defeats happened in 1971 (the back of the 70-71 promotion season and our 71/72 return to the top division). In those days you got 2 points for a win but if it had been 3 points, we'd have achieved an average of 2.33 points per game.

So all we need to do is set a club record winning streak and we might finish 3 points short of a play off spot.

I'm now confident that Clough will perform the miracle of keeping us up after the mess Weir left.

Get real ffs.

If we can finish the season like Wednesday did the other year it's game on. Didn't they win 14 in 17?
