Drawing 0-0 with Brizzle, all the other scores going our way - FT's coming in and Brentford, Derby and Preston have all lost.

Delays in both Blades and Millwall games mean we are still playing, Millwall also 0-0.

Then in the 93rd minute Millwall concede a late goal....

What happens next?

Remember when we all thought 6th place might take 78+ points???

76 nearly always gets you in - if we win Satdi and lose at BC we have probably finished 7 points short of a definite spot. Barnsley, Brum, Hull, Forest, QPR, Bolton. Only 14 out of a potential 36 points. For as bad as we were against some of the better sides, 3 better results in there and we'd be in :)

It won't go to the last game as far as we are concerned.

Incidentally, once again when we and the Pigs are in the same division they are at home on the last day and we are away. That's 9 times out of the last 10 seasons we've been together (1994, 2001-03, 2008-10, 2012, 2018). We only got the last home game in 2006.

It’s over. We are spent.

I’ve already switched to my summer interests - watching Baywatch repeats while eating cheesey whottsits.

I shall be getting back on this as soon as I’ve popped to the doctors about a strange orange rash that’s developed on my knob.

etc.

Drop it, BTL. 30 points out of our last 27 games tells it's own story (as does our longest winning sequence in that time. Two games):

It's incredible that - mathematically - we could still make the play-offs and then what? Inglorious failure to teams that deserve to be there.

Miracles do happen - just not to The Blades.

Bloody hell Swiss if all that happens up to the Bristol game we blades will be on life support to see us through.
The relegation season under Bassett had a similar turn round( only the wrong way round ). All starts tonight Rams v Cardiff
Prayer Mat out.

Loving the optimism buddy!!

I actually think the first set of results will be close to what happens, and that we’ll win Saturday. Our inability to win away often enough in this second half of the season is what’s going to ultimately cost us though heading to Bristol City.

Oooh you're so close.

No, the Millwall game ends in defeat, however, we do score. 94th Minute and what a cracker. Fleck slamming one home from 40 yards. Its a hell of a strike.

But the linesman spots an infringement, its spurious to say the least, but after a long discussion with the ref its disallowed.

Bristol City lump it forward, "Steven Gerrard" dive in the area, replays show that JOC didn't touch the player, Penalty given.

Blackman gets a hand to it to tip it onto the bar, the ball bounces down onto the goal line and then out again. Bristol City celebrate, but it wasn't in. It never went over the line.

The ref gives the goal and blows for full time

To be honest it will make interesting reading come 5pm on Saturday.

All we are hoping for is a series of home wins. That's how most matches end up.

Villa send out a team like Man Utd did v Wet Spam and Millwall get the points

Yep, Villa will have nothing to play for and will want to rest players

But what about today's match between Drby and Cardiff?

im only talking about us winning a home game against a team we beat 1-0 in the cup at home a couple of months back

It would be such a nice change to get the mirror image of the day we went down at Chelsea

footballis a cruel mistress and throws up strange endings

I too think its improbable

but stranger things have happened

and a last day at bristol whos had 2 3~3 draws and a 5-5 recently and lost to brentford at home

the championship is weird

It's alright hoping for the other teams fucking up. We need to look after our own business and win 2 games on the bounce.
We are guaranteed to concede, so we're going to need 2 goals at least in both games.

Can you see us scoring 4 goals in 2 games? Especially against a very well drilled unit such as Preston.
It's done. It was over when the 2nd went in against Birmingham.

Concentrate on next season, anything else is needless torture.

I said we'd lose 1-0 v Birmingham and we'd play crap. Nearly right.

Preston's going to be a draw. 0-0 or 1-1. Millwall revisited.

Me too, I know exactly how we're going to play when we go away to struggling sides. Roll over and let them tickle our arses.
It was a very negative and weird lineup though, if we're being true. He did score, but Duffy isn't good enough at the top, top of the pitch to play that Brooks role, as Brooks isn't good enough at CAM to play the Duffy role.
No way should we have lined up with 3 midfielders, then Duffy and just 1 striker in Donaldson.

Credit to Duffy for getting the shot off and for the run but if Blackman had let that in I would have been livid. Not their keeper's finest hour (after his excellent game at the Lane).

What difference does being in the same division make? Surely it doesn't matter which league we're both in, if we're at home then they have to be away and vice versa. How many times in the last 20 seasons have we been home/away on the last day?

It can make a difference in that the PL and the FL do not finish on the same weekend every year, so both teams can be at home on the last day.

I can't remember the exact split for the last 20 years but it was pretty slanted to away games to us for a long time. Recently we've caught up a bit having been at home on the last day a few times in league one.

Neither team has been in the PL in the last 10 years so I don't understand why that would be a factor. As I say, the figures over the last 20 years (regardless of which league we're in) is what would be interesting. I'll see if I can get some data

Just looked at the last 11 seasons. For the seasons 12/13 and 16/17 we finished on different weekends and for both we were both at home for the last game. Out of the other nine seasons, when we finished on the same weekend, we were at home on the last day on just 3 occasions. Seems a bit skewed in their favour, like you say.
