There were two clear fouls on the corner, McB dragged Bamford to the ground and Jairo was thrown down also. Had there just been one foul I doubt that he gives the pen. Don't know how many times Tanganga's been fouled like that this season without getting a call but I'm pretty sure today would have been no different.

Not sure when the rules changed but it appears anything goes now.

Trade secrets…. It’s communication techniques to be able look at who is starting it and where you need to be looking, some players are too honest so you tend to not be focusing on them.

He's like the kid who takes his ball home off the field. Takes all the free kicks and all the corners.

The tugging and pulling which goes on before the ball is in play prior to corners infuriates me. 9 times out of 10 it continues -as it did today, but today it was punished for a change.

I think before the ball is in play and it's not clear who the offender is, they should both be cautioned - I'm pretty sure that would stop it happening. At the end of the day it's often 6 of one and half a dozen of the other, but if they knew there was a risk of being cautioned it would soon disappear from the game.

It’s about game and player relationships management from the referee side of things, too many football referees don’t use their voice or communication skills for stamping stuff like that out and just insist on whistling ,you can’t give a free kick/penalty if the ball isn’t in play so there wouldn’t be any cautioning (yellow cards going on). However it could easily be dealt with under the list of caution offences for denying an obvious goal or goal scoring opportunity or for unsporting behaviour when the free kick/penalty is given.

Yeah exactly that, the caution (yellow cards) for when the ball isn’t in play is for dissent, delaying restart of play and unsporting behaviour usually for taking too long for leaving the field of play with substitutes etc. The best thing the referee can do and should be doing is stopping the ball from being played and talking to players, sometimes they are although it is difficult to see at a professional level due to them not being micd up for public listening. Listening to Tanganga YouTube interview, the referee apparently gave it for Jairo, there was a discussion about this topic previously and it is a pet peeve of mine but Jairo is an intelligent footballer so I wouldn’t have put it past him starting it and allowing the Hull defender to push him when the corner was played. It’s not full on simulation or cheating but knowing how to use the laws of the game to your advantage.

Any violent conduct even after a game has finished or at half time is a red card offence regardless of if the ball is in play.

The thing to note with the yellow card and red card they were brought in for the benefit of the spectator. The actual report for caution and sending off offences is written up by the match officials post match.

You aren’t wrong with the considerations, it how that is applied and what corner routine is done, the first 2 are likely to be a clear tick as it’s likely the direction of play is attacking and the distance of the offence is in the penalty area. The other 2 are dependent on the each offence if the ball is whipped in the probably doubtful control of the ball unless it’s played to feet, defenders again is one of how they are marking, man on man probably less likely than zonal marking where you will have that space.

The referee could also consider any other offence which interferes with or stops a promising attack except where the referee awards a penalty kick for an offence which was an attempt to play the ball or for a challenge for the ball, with this one if the player hasn’t made any attempt to challenge for the ball and just pushed the attacker over, there should be considered for a yellow card and caution.

Because that would involve them doing their jobs. And if they actually did that, and gave five penalties and sent three players off per game, there'd be just as many people whining about them being overly fussy and "ruining the game"

I thought it was a bit risky from Wilder in his post match presser to mention the referee in the way he did about him needing better game management or words to that effect. Personally I don’t think what Wilder is saying is wrong but the decision has gone for us and we have won, sometimes it’s best to deflect and if the penalty kick is mentioned just gloss over it and move on. I doubt the FA will get involved with the comments but it just puts us in the bad books with the referees.

I think having seen it back the ref had no choice. Tanganga was pushed to the ground, so was Jairo meanwhile Bamford is being ragged to the floor on the goal line by McBurnie.

I've watched it back and I'm not sure either is clearly a foul. If anything Riedewald fouls their man from the angle behind the goal? Thr Bamford and McBurnie acuffle; they both grab each other.

Tanganga and the defender are just caught in a bear hug.

Think it's a harsh penalty having see the replays.

Think ref just sees a few of ours hit the deck and sort of guesses but watched it back several times and hard to see that their lads are anymore the aggressor than ours lads.

Maybe a different angle shows it differently,?

Every other ref should take a leaf out of his book. Fucking wrestling in the box, it's absolutely pathetic. Our lot are as bad as anyone as well, granted it's improved since JLT left.

I don't understand it. It's a foul, so give a pen. Everyone would pretty quickly stop doing it then.

Not going to lie from the view on the kop we seemed to be all invested in the McBurnie/Bamford one then most of us noticed the Jairo one as he was falling.

Just a complete weird scenario Hull put themselves in but not going to complain given what has gone against us this season.

In the league that I play in, I played a match earlier this season that stuck out in my memory that kind of compares to the foul(s) that led upto the pen at the Hull match.

It's a corner to my team, I'm attacking and I'm the tallest, so naturally everyone attracts to me like a magnet. Just as the ball is played, I get a huge shunt in the back of my head from one opponent behind me, alongside another opponent who decides to trip me up. Also another opponent takes out one of my team mates too.

As I clutched my head, I looked at the ref, he blew for a penalty, then pointed to the spot, THEN put 3 fingers up.

The other team were up in arms (they were winning about 5-0 at that point). The ref then says "There were three fouls" then sarcastically said "pick one". So I shouted back "aww, don't we get three pens then ref?"

Pen was missed, completely. Not by me, but by the managers son. No retry unfortunately.
