Right then, 2 days away from the first win of the promotion season...................

Yes I am optimistic now (will it last?), I've even invested in a new Blades shirt for the first time in........ever.

It got me thinking, if we cant be optimistic at the start of the season with everything left to play, something's wrong! (ok someone will mention 'the blades way' at this point of course!).

How many of us are feeling positive about the season? yes the last 2 yrs have been a crap outcome,
but lots of stuff has changed, new manager, new players, new sponsor on the back of the top collar.......:D

So how are the players feeling then? do we reckon they are feeling positive?
I'm no scientist, but i studied psychology at uni and I reckon it really makes a big diff at every level of sport, sometimes just believing you can win in tight games makes all the difference.
look how much better Andy Murray Is now he believes in himself more.

So who believes we can go up this yr? and do you think the players/management staff do?

Unbeaten at Christmas, I think we'll dip a little till March and then Waltz it. Bring it on.

I appeal to my fellow supporters please don't shout 'GET RID' ever.

and I do think that many fans are pessimistic in a superstitious way. Superstition is superseded because pessimism doesn't work; its self-fulfilling AS IS OPTIMISM.

and I suspect Weir thinks he's got a damned good chance of winning the league, I think he will.

I feel more optimistic than I have done for several years. Maybe it's because they have at last got rid of most of the baggage from the Premiership/Tevez/Robson etc. and got down to basics.

I think we will do well, but maybe a little patience will be needed along the way.

I think I'm more cautious of our chances than I normally am. I don't expect us to do it this year, but since his appointment Weir has led me to think he is the right man to take us forward be it this year or the next.

Who knows? Most seasons I can quite accurately forecast how we will finish. This season with a new management team, New players, New system, New formation, New style play all make it difficult to call. But all those things make it more interesting than it has been for a while. Hopefully it all comes together and succeeds.

yep you're spot on, we don't really know, but I'm going for the optimistic view at the mo, goodness knows why from our past history, but surely one yr has to be ours?

I'm cautiously optimistic, I think that Weir will prove to be a fantastic appointment but not necessarily overnight and fans may need to be patient. All of his signings are off the back of an impressive last season, but the likes of Taylor and Brandy have failed elsewhere so who really knows how they will work out.
To be fair if he isn't a success with all his experience, assistants and contacts, it's God help us!

We should have a certain level of optimism , no matter what some think we are and always will be better positioned in so many ways than the majority of league one clubs, crowds we still can afford more than the majority and are still more appealing to come to than most. As before we are oneof possibly 8 / 9 teams in with a believable chance and 1/2 surprise teams mean we are one of ten in the mix so have a better than a 50 .50 chance of making the play offs , as we have managed in the previous 2 seasons . If Weir is the real deal and can affect the tweeks required to improve us the 10/15% to get into the top 2 we should not be fearful. The aim has to be to make Bramall Lane home points only zone this season, the draws at home were probably the most damaging statistic last season , turning half of our home draws to wins would add 12/14 points enough to get us there .

I am much more optimistic now Weir's in charge - has the right pedigree both as a player and coach now will will see if he can cut it as a manager
He appears to have put together a good 'backroom staff' that have both credibility and some experience !
His signings appear positive, a bit of luck with injuries and with Miller and DiGirolamo hopefully making both a full and speedy recovery then things look much brighter.
However, I do get worried when I see the headline 'STRIKE ACE SEEKS HOME GAINS and they're actually talking about Porter whose neither a striker or ace!!

I'm strangely optimistic. Strange in that, although we've signed no-one I've ever heard of, have a manger with zero experience and still have the great "seller of dreams" in charge of the money, I quite fancy us to make a push.
I suspect a slow start and a general build up of momentum (indeed should the odds push out to 20's by September I might pile in) and then the whole season will rest on how we perform off the field in January (and there my optimism may prove to be misplaced) and I think Weir will insist he gets the proper backing when the time comes.

I'm happier going into this season than I have been since Hoofy destroyed all hope on day one at St Andrews 5 long years ago. Bring it on.

I have no idea how we will do this year.

I like the idea of younger, faster players, but the idea of one guy up front and 2 defensive midfielders sounds like a recipe for a lot of 0-0 draws, again. Plus as Grecian says, who are these guys?

I can see the defence doing well again in terms of goals conceded but am unconvinced by the attacking potential of any full back on the books, and I do not trust McCabe not to sell one of Long or the centre halves.

I am looking forward to it now but more in hope than expectation.

I was down at the Lane yesterday.

There was an army of guys painting steps and cleaning chairs, the pitch was being cut but was already like a carpet. No one thing was totally different but lots and lots of tiny little tweaks have been made behind the scenes which by themselves will probably make no difference but combine to a level of detail I’ve not seen down there before. David Weir and his backroom staff seem to have been meticulous in their approach to everything.

I got the impression that no stone has been left unturned. The way everyone is preparing for this season just seems to have moved up a gear and as I stood there looking about the place it was certainly the same old BDTBL but it just felt a bit different.

Head and heart say another disappointing season. Can't get optimistic. Unproven manger, ordinary looking new additions, no strikers, lack creativity, no money, stronger league...

All true....but a much better outlook even with the above than any future season with Wilson.
Walsall with very many of the same attributes virtually gate crashed the playoffs last season.
Yeovil actually did just that and more...name several of their players...I can't.

I'm depending on Weir to be much sharper than Wilson from minute one of any match and juggle his squad accordingly.
Brandy despite an unsettled past will delight the crowd on his 'on days' and it's up to the players to help him have many of them.
I'm cautiously optimistic.

Always am before the season starts. With the changes over the Summer following the stuttering finish last season then things seem better than usual as we start the new one. Also no World Cup/Euros might also account for me looking forward to the new season kicking off again.

We are currently above Wolves in the table. If we remain so in May then we will do just fine.

I am optimistic, more optimistic than I can remember to be honest. I just wish we would puff our chests out more and big it up.

I think one of my points is, we HAVE to believe we can do it or we might as well give up now. nothing in football is easy, the best way to achieve is hard work and of course a bit of luck along the way. But if we start with a positive belief we can do it, then anything can happen. Yeovil managed to get promoted last season for goodness sake.

No idea how we will do this season but if we are in or around the play offs I'll be reasonably happy. One thing I am pleased about is we do seem to have options to change things this season both in terms of personnel and tactics. Last season no matter how bad it was I struggled to think of any changes that would improve things. Still think we need another striker from somewhere to add to the squad.

anyone more optimistic after last night?

Come on guys, we've all been down this road before. We know how this story ends.

You're all just setting yourselves up for a massive disappointment again.

I think this is right on, if we can turn half those draws into wins at home - what a difference, and it is possible. But before I jump up and down I will wait to see if this team disappears next week and takes a new approach to playing away - goes for the draw....

I take it this gallows humour?

with the risk of sounding like a motivational speech from smiffy, we don't know how it will end, there's everything to play for and we can go up.
