It's the lack of chances created that concerns me most. There is no delivery to any of the strikers, regardless of how good or how poor they are, so how can we score - other than a fluke like at Tranny?
Against Carlisle we played the best part of 20 mins against 10 men and didn't make their keep anxious once.
It may be a shit division but other teams create more chances than we do. We are the lowest scorers in the top 8 with 51 goals - that's 16 less than the highest, Bournemouth.
OK so we have played fewer games than some and have one or two games in hand but is the scoring record going to improve with the injuries we have and the strikers that DW can pick from? I don't believe it will.
Murphy is likely to break down again before the end of the season and our main source of supply (McDonald) will no doubt get that extra yellow card tomorrow, as we chase the game, that keeps him out of the fixtures against Crawley and Swindon.
Walsall have scored 36 goals at home out of 21 games (only one less than Bournemouth or Swindon). If we are to get any sort of result there then we will need to score at least 2 goals. I just can't see where that will come from. I believe that we will lose at the Bescot because of this, probably tight but I am expecting a 2-0 or 2-1 defeat.
After Saturday we have Crawley at home - they will come to Bramall Lane for the first time in their history and make things just as difficult as Carlisle did. With Billy Clarke on 12 goals for the season they have someone we all know who is capable of beating any of our defenders or midfielders with a trick or two. I think we will get a draw, maybe 1-1 or, god forbid, another 0-0. Once these two results are in the pressure will be well and truly on as I expect Donny will win both of their upcoming games by the end of Tuesday night. With one place left for automatic we will not have the fire power to make an impact. Swindon pose a real threat (as joint second highest goal scorers with 64) so we will be set up defensively in that game and as the fear grows in front of a large and expectant BL crowd it will paralyse any creativity we have left.
I am not convinced that McFazdean is going to provide the ammo for the strikers. He is too young and too raw at the moment. I would like to see Ironside given a chance to get the goals but we all know Porter will be the lead target with Forte alongside. Unless Flynn creates something (yes Flynn who has most assists and most likely to assist) creates something we are just pissing in the wind.
