Gloves ? He's either joined the Black Panthers or he's nesh. FFS.

Have visions of a line of National League North footballers pre-match (at a point in about mid-September just as a slight chill takes the edge off the late-summer heat), eyes cast downwards, outstretched single arms with glove-clad fists raised to the skies...

Nah, Elliott's just a nesher.

Nicky Law bossing it for Indy Eleven in the USL Championship.

Nope, firstly we don’t need another slow paced player in the team and secondly he’s currently shooting fish in a barrel. Our last 6 opponents were a lot better than Morecambe, Wycombe, Lincoln, Charlton, Barnsley and Cheltenham.

It's not goals or pace we needed him for.

Linking between the lines, slowing us down at the top of the pitch to allow others to advance, great attitude, promotion experience... I honestly think he'd have been a key fixture,
particularly given the injuries we've had. Obviously I'm not in the dressing room but he seems such a loss.

I haven't forgotten how incredible he was in the final games of our last promotion push. He dragged us up when others panicked.
Screw the standard, we all know what McGoldrick is capable of.

“Slowing us down at the top of the pitch” 😳 We’re on the verge of walking football as it is. Any slower and we’d be statuesque.

People would have been going mad if we’d have been giving Didzy a game over Ndiaye.

no one can ever really tell
Ian Wright was a non league player who didnt play every game

He got eratic games for greenwich borough until a palace scout gave him a trial at 22

he wasnt too bad a striker

some bloom early some later , some show great promise and do buggar all
Ritchie Humphries scored a few wonder goals for wednesday scoring 4 in his first 11 games and was the new Derek Dooley for a while
then went 60 games without scoring
ended up with Hartlepool and chesterfield

We should've hung onto him.
Love the bloke to bits and agree he would have been invaluable to have in the squad this season, as it turns out.

But hindsight's a great thing and thinking back to the back end of last season when we had to make the call, he was an ageing player who'd always struggled with injuries coming back from yet another long lay-off. How many of us thought he would come back good enough for another Championship promotion push? I certainly didn't.

It's making sure the ball sticks at the top of the field. Bringing others into play.
At the moment it's very haphazard. It's Bogle or Ndiaye trying to take on the world by themselves, or it's lumping it up to an isolated McBurnie.
There's no pattern to our play.

Duffy and McGoldrick used to slow things down... then - suddenly - a burst of runners and we'd all go. At pace.
Down the wings... A few arriving into the box, taking different lines. Hard to defend against.
It gave an opportunity for the likes of Sharp to get into a goalscoring position.
We had a style and an attacking system. Now, we look totally disjointed and reliant on individuals.

Maybe "slowing us down" was the wrong terminology to use. Controlling the attacking tempo might have been a better description.

I say this without hyperbole, up there with my all time faves to ever put a Blades shirt on. About as professional as a professional can professionally be!
Exactly this.

You always knew what you would get from McGoldrick as he is simply a good old fashioned professional, very much in the same Mould as Basham.

He puts on his shirt, whether it be starting a game, half hour in or with 5 minutes to go and he literally leaves everything out on the pitch. You are guaranteed a work rate and he respects the shirt that he wears.

When United chose to let him go, it was a very sad time in the recent chapters of our football club. But he was very graceful with it and thankful for the opportunity, despite knowing that he probably had another season in him at this level.

He might be 35, but I don't see him stopping at the end of this season wither if he's still fit. He's on 16 goals for the season and he's going to smash over 20 in come May (if not 25), so there will be interest in him staying on... And he loves football that much that he would probably be willing to slip down another league to grind out another season.

Actually, a perfect fit might be written in the stars for him. Notts County are battling to get back into the leagues and look on course to achieve promotion back to league two. He's a Nottingham lad and started his professional career at County, so perhaps that would be a fitting end to his career? They would probably snap his hands off to have somebody of his ability and experience at the club.

It was his constant movement, constant showing for the ball, constant bringing others into play. The more static players (Berge, McBurnie) benefited from his perpetual movement. Ndiaye doesn't do that (yet)...

The best style we’ve played under PH was towards the end of last season. Ironically at the time there was worry we’d be going into the POs without a recognised striker.

MGW, Ndiaye and Berge played at the top of the pitch in pretty much free roles. Their pace, fluidity and ability caused problems.

They destroyed Fulham in that 4-0 win when all three of them scored in the first half. Wish we’d have adopted it earlier on in the season.

Doyle and Norwood as CDM pivots with McAtee, Berge and Ndiaye in front of them with licences to roam...

Wouldn't be our worse set up in recent weeks...
