The next bladey blade manager

An interesting question about Cooper is why he isn’t already in a job. Several Championship clubs have appointed a new manager recently (eg West Brom, Hull, Boro, Norwich, Bristol C, even Swansea where he had worked in the past). Surely one of them would have considered his record and thought he could get them promoted and keep them up. At Forest it was the owner who went on a trolley dash in the transfer market after promotion. Cooper stitched things together to survive in the first season. He’s done very well overall, so it’s surprising that he is not in work.

You think our owners are considering making a change after two league games?

If at the end of September we’re absolutely fucked, they’ll probably have to boot him.

We have a big week now to get players in. Far too early on Selles. Fans are flip flopping blaming him, then the board and sticking up for him, now they’re blaming him again.

I'm not blaming Selles, personally. The potential shitshow that this could turn into is solely at the door of the owners and board. They seem totally incapable of making a prompt decision and completely incapable of having an effective forward-thinking plan in place due their perceived lack of sporting intelligence and experience.

It's still early days and this next week will be very interesting in regard to who comes in but i have a very bad feeling about this whole ownership model. The whole 'look' of the players, the management and the general malaise of the play and the transfer business just points towards stagnation and decline. We'll see.

It'll also be very interesting to see the attitude and actions of the fanbase if things don't improve hugely soon and a general decline sets in. We've slagged off our neighbours for not taking action sooner when the obvious signs were there that the club were plunging headlong downwards. Be interesting to hear the thoughts of other Blades and if they think we'd wait as long as the pigs did before protesting?

It's far too soon yet for that I know, but I have a nasty feeling that this lot are not good for us. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Let's give Selles ten games + some decent defensive recruits and see where we are then. I can't see Cooper or anyone else coming in and making an earlier impact.
Also, we need to get Arblaster and Tom Davies fit and back in the team. They would make a huge difference.

I agree but it’s the way they will think.. and it’s what our parochial fans base will understand and be comfortable with
I don't remember anyone being comfortable with Micky Adams, and I know it's getting boring, but regarding people's personal view of Wilder, many of us think he has hugely overachieved with us for most of his time here - hence we rate him. That doesn't mean that we don't 100% support Selles; it means that there will inevitably be comparisons, and many will continue to wish the change had not been made. We need the board to support Selles so he can show whether he can take us to the next level, which I think is what the huge majority of Blades really want.

It needs to be someone who can establish us as, at best, a yo yo team because that is the limit of the ambitions of a large number of our parochial fan base. We need to be kept firmly in the comfort zone, can’t be doing with any short term pain.

I’d be entirely behind short term pain if we had a manager who had proven that short term pain lead to long term success under their managerial guidance.

I presume with this in mind the chosen manager you choose to back, had built something elsewhere… I presume he’s managed somewhere for over a year and really turned it into something special.

No and no..there's a big wide world outside of bramall Lane.
I'd usually rubbish talk like this however Basset aside when did we last have a good manager that got us promoted that didn't have a link to the club ex player or partner of the coaching staff etc. Like the playoffs it just doesn't work for us having these foreign managers.

And this is why we never move forward..ideas wise.
So how long should we have given Slav and appreciate its very early for Selles but how long do we give managers to implement a change in playing style. If we can see progression no matter how small at least we can get on board. Currently we have a confused board, confused manager, confused players and very confused fans. I've not seen anyone explain pundits anyone what we are trying to implement?

We are in a real knee jerk situation here and especially with the names given after 2 league matches. As said before, the end of the transfer window, the backing, the month after and have a look at it then. If our supporters have their way,we will outstrip Watford with managers.

I know why im confused..we,ve just brought in a new manager and so far given him fuck all money to spend..same with slav.

Ah, the last refuge of the scoundrel, blaming the fans.

So it's not the confuision and dissaray on the pitch under RS, nor the clueless board selling players with no replacements lined up, but it's wholly down to the fans.

The thread is about who the next manager will be. I am simply giving my view of what a lot of our fans will feel most comfortable with. And no, I don’t have a particularly high opinion of a sizeable chunk of our fanbase these days compared to how things were in decades gone by. I find them spineless, entitled and lacking in patience, but I blame the general shitness of English society for that, it’s not just a Blades thing, although ours are particularly parochial.

Even the most successful managers had their first success somewhere. We’ve always been terrified of taking the sort of gamble that clubs who have overtaken us have. I find it pathetic.

Cooper should have, and hopefully will be brought in, if COH have any sense
I actually hate the bloke with a passion, but if we're ( in theory 😁) looking at possible replacement for selles then I don't think we'd do a lot wrong. But with a really good DOF please.

Usually at smaller clubs than ours - Wimbledon, Northampton, Oxford or Bury for example.
In the past, yes. But the game has moved on frighteningly quickly. Thomas Frank hadn’t managed anywhere before he took the Brentford job. Nor had Maresca before Leicester. Over the last 10 years there are far more examples of that.

You are wasting your time, they can’t let go . Yes,we had a tremendous time and success during his first tenure and the best football I’ve seen for eons . The second part was an outdated football manual picked up from the changing room locker (top shelf with dust on) . Someone mentioned to me that he would rather have substance than quality . I bet his wife thinks exactly the opposite. Yes,you know who you are.

IMHO we needed a change from the same old " up and at em " philosophy. A different style , coaching , recruitment. Some of this particularly recruitment we haven't got right yet but it was never going to be a quick process ,all done in one transfer window albeit we should have been in a better place than we are .

It appears some players are struggling with either their ability to implement a new style or just don't want to . Happens in every organisation going through change . Some embrace it , some don't, it may not be wrong its just different.

The additional problem in not having the squad depth and relying on inexperienced players to make it work isn't helping either those on the pitch or he manager.

I can see a few comings and goings and even then it will take time and patience and still it might fail but we have to give it a chance .

We don't yet have the players to implement any formula under any manager as yet, let's hope we put that right sooner than later.

Also,I remember Thomas Frank having a nightmare start to managing Brentford. The rest is history.

Nail on the head.

Need to get Sean Bean as manager, with Paul Heaton as no. 2. Joe Root as physio and Jess Ennis as fitness coach.

I’ll be totally exasperated until this day arrives.

Selles should be given time, but let's be honest, this has got 'sacked in November and we'll bring in a former blade to pick things up' written all over it.

So of the ex blades that have done coaching/managerial role somewhere, who's it going to be?

Rob Page, Monty, Neil Collins? Wilder? Warnock?

Anyone else we can be looking at?

#GERRIMBACK
Will giving Selles more time make any difference with the present squad.

Spineless, entitled and lacking in patience: nope, I can't argue with that.
