The morning after....

Woke up at 3am last night and took me an hour to get back to sleep.
The head says 1 point was still a decent result and we looked auto promotion team for 80 minutes
But the heart says why kid yourself, we’re fated for more play-off heart ache. It’s the way it is.
Suppose the good news is there’s plenty of the season left with more twists and turns.

We beat Bury twice in the promotion season. Maybe you mean Oldham?

It's definitely going to affect the players and the fans in games coming up. I really worry last night has fucked us up. So gutting.

That’s the one cheers Roy. You and me both.

A bit of perspective.. I can see something similar happening during playoffs. The way we bottled it last night will be in the back of players (& fans!) minds now

I have much more respect for our players to expect them to be as mentally feeble as us.

We were absolutely fantastic for 81 minutes.
We made three mistakes, big clangers and we paid for those mistakes with a goal for each.
Henderson was the only player that didn't have a great game.
Basham was probably lucky to stay on the field
Sharps did what he needed to do for the second, it was tight on the keeper having it in his hands, he was stood offside, but he did what he needed to do. The rest was down to the officials. Villa didn't protest TOO much.

Substitutions
Madine - He'd run his nuts off, he'd played the physical role and looked ready to come off when he did. McG initially did what he was required to do, he linked up well with Billy (Billy seems fitter each and every game and put a right shift in)
Dowell - Tough one, I think Wilder was probably looking to bring Cranie in, 0-3 up and with Basham suspended for the next two games, i think it was a sensible change. Again, 0-3 up after 74 mins, you bring fresh legs on and give game time. It happens in so many games and nothing wrong with it. Basham into midfield made sense, Coutts wasn't on the bench, so he was the next sensible option. In hindsight, perhaps Bash for Cranie might've worked too.
Washington - Billy had done his job, Washington offers fresh legs and he was chasing everything.
Wilders substitutions were fair enough, i wouldn't really have done much different and there was no screaming at the TV for any of them.

The 3 goals were due to pressure and freak errors from normally reliable players

Except Henderson fucked up against Leeds. Not all that long ago. And on tv. Maybe he can't handle the big games ....or probably has got too biggy big bollox. Put Moore in.

Now that the beer has worn off ,
And the blood pressure has returned to normal, I’m disappointed ( obviously) that after a fantastic performance last night , we blew a chance to go top .
But come on this is how far out team has travelled since Sir Chris took over ,
From being rightly laughed at for being shit to , to
being top 3 in championship
Over two legs we beat villa 7-4 , ( that’s a playoff reference) , and have taken 4 points off them , last season they took 4 off us and got to the playoff finals ,
Obviously gutted over last night from being in a great position, but I’ll take 4 to 6 points from our next 3 away games .
We’re 3 games up on 7 at the moment we’re in a good position ,
If scum and Norwich win it’ll get slightly worse , but it’s football ,
Who on here ever thought that our team , would be so widely applauded for its football , and its manager so widely liked ,
I’m proud of my / our club and just because we got a draw away too a team , who should be above us with the talent they have is a complement to us

Nowt has changed, still gutted and angry we threw that away....just watched it back as it was difficult to see exactly what happened from our seats...

1) Sharp was lucky his second was given.
2) Henderson's handling and positioning and was awful.
3) Wilders substitutions were questionable to say the least. Dowell was having a great game and taking him off left huge holes. I think his reaction at the end of the game showed that he knew he may have contributed to the collapse.
4) Coppers were OTT, proper bully boys...and the fat Head Steward was desperate to chuck as many out as possible

All in all.....pissed off doesn't come close...we could pay dearly for those two dropped points at the end of the season.

Could have been worse had the ref given a pen against Bash for a blatant shirt pull. Not even sure how he missed that, but thankfully did

I just think last night, and similar results (Rotherham, Swansea, Bristol) show why the autos are probably beyond us. But at the same time shows that we ought to make the play offs looking at the games we and are our direct competitors have got to play.

Points are always better than games in hand, particularly when DC and BC will be playing Saturday and Tuesday to catchup and they are still in the FA cup.

But the great unknown is the effect that greater firepower upfront might bring.

Please also keep perspective. For 80 minutes that was an outstanding performance, we looked the mustard. We collapsed at the end in pretty poor fashion, but so long as we take the right lessons away from last night then we’re staying in this race for automatic promotion.

I know it’s gut wrenching but they have some very good players. If we keep picking up points away from home and wins at the Lane then we’re going up. I can’t see many teams beating us in this run-in after last night.

The change for me was getting Duffy on the pitch. His ball retention is different class.

I, like many couldn't sleep last night mulling over what I witnessed. However, I'm confident that what happened last night will not be repeated in the remaining games we have. It will be a big kick up the backside not only for the players, but also for the management team and it probably coming at the right time of the season and in preparation for the run-in.
I predicted at the end of last season that the experience each player obtained and also for CW and Knill, we would build on that platform and so it is proving. Yes, last night was very disappointing, but problems created will be rigorously stamped out by every one of the players and management.
Heated words were exchanged in the dressing room after the game and rightly so, but come Monday the team need to come together with the great team spirit they have and that will see them through. They will be like an injured animal and pleased that the next game is only a few days away where they can put all this to right. They will be desperate to show they can achieve what we all want and hope CW will keep faith with the same team selection apart from any suspensions.
I can see a great result against Middlesborough and the team learning from last night's experience will go into a top two position by the end of this month and will remain there.
Last night's chain of events may be just what the team needed to experience.

I'm trying to be sanguine about last night, but I went to bed depressed and got up feeling crushed. Now we know what Colchester felt that night when Clough was our manager. United always have had a tendency to snatch disaster from the jaws of triumph every so often. That inate ability to have your dreams crushed is a given for Blades. I have even had to resort to searching google for matchday latex underwear in the club colours for the many squeaky bum moments we have to endure over the years.

I've tried telling myself we don't want to go up and be next season's Huddersfield, but that's not working. Even though I should know better by now at my age I still harbour dreams of us winning the Premiership. Then I tell myself to go to the nearest self-harm clinic and seek professional help, but they would turn me away as by now my addiction is chronic.

Henderson was at fault for the first two goals and a contributor for the third, but put Moore in the team and I would have to double up on the nerve pills and anti-depressants.We can only hope that the team (and us) react positively to what was an immensely negative result. Beat Boro, Leeds and the dark side and the world will look a better place.

Meanwhile has anyone got an emotional band-aid? Better make that a tornique.

Ah well,we are where we are and tomorrow is another day. Think it's beer o'clock now and I need to go back to timeworn cliches that tell you life goes on and twas ever thus.

Anyone saying they'd have taken a draw.... fuck that. Why? Did you not see Villa's line up? Are you not aware of their poor form? Did you not see what a great chance it was to beat them? Failing that, did you not see the first 10 minutes?

As if we needed anything to make our fans more nervous and defeatist. Then that happens. Every single time we've got a lead in a game from now until the end of the season there's going to be a palpable 'shitting ourselves' feeling.

I've been around as long as you. I've got them on speed dial. :)

These young 'uns, eh? :D

It's not just United, it's football. I'd imagine Villa fans aren't enjoying this season much - mid-table, a new manager who isn't all that and let seven in this season against lil ol' Sheffield United.

We had a 15 minute brain fart last night, that's all and I trust Wilder more than nearly every other manager to have learned from it.

What I've learned is to never listen to the RS commentary again. I was enjoying watching 'Impossible Engineering' last night, occasionally flicking over and, around quarter past nine I saw we were 3-0 up and foolishly decided to put RS on. We were under pressure but Edwards said 'Even if they get one, I'm not worried...'

They try and over-egg even the most mundane 'action' like getting a throw in our own half to inject some excitement into proceedings.

Before KO last night, Villa hadn't failed to score in their previous 27 home league games. You didn't think United were going to end that run, did you?

I watched the game in a pub, and even at 3-0 up, I said to Mrs G, "if they get a goal, we are in trouble" and that is what happened. An absolute collapse of the highest order. They just piled bodies into the box and we couldn't deal with it.

First goal came off the back of scum bag Mingers head, he had no clue what was happening, a fluke. But that was it, the bit between their teeth.

Even at 3-2 up we should have seen the game out.

How that third goal went in, I will never know, Henderson was stood right in front of the bloke.

After all that good work in the first 80 minutes. Wilder should not have tinkered with a side that was leading 3-0.

Poor old Billy, having a hat trick away at Villa overshadowed by shite defending.

If that's given the third goal wouldn't have happened though, game would have been different from then on. Maybe them still equalising was karma for that

I'll tell you what would have been worse. Imagine last night's game panning out exactly the same - but at Hillsborough

Woke up at half six this am. Could not get back to sleep. Still pissed off. Hope Wilder has them in all weekend training They've ruined my weekend hope he ruins theirs!!
Fuckin hell mate, don't forget we are only this disappointed because we did so well for 80min, that has to count for something.

I wouldn't have made any subs last night, but it's easy to say that in hindsight. Feel absolutely wounded so much so don't know what to do with myself. I think the only thing that can get me cheered up in the immediate future is Leeds and Norwich failing to win, and then us getting Max points from the two upcoming home games

The sign of a good player / manager is realizing an error,
Then getting over it to become a better player / manager
Hendo made 2 errors yesterday, the one against Leeds was a bad back pass which took him out of position
The only problem with a goalkeeping error is it normally results in a goal ,
But for every error like last night there’s a 3 on 1 save like Norwich at home ,
He will learn from his mistake, if he doesn’t that’s when he needs to be spoken too ,
Not sadly knee jerk reactions to every bad pass / move / substitutions like what happens on here on a regular basis

I don't suppose anyone will be calling for JOC to be dropped.......
