In those days us winning the FA Cup was a semi-regular event. If only they knew we wouldn't win the FA Cup or any other major honour* for at least another 93 years.

*Obvs apart from the 1988 Yorkshire & Humberside Cup.

Brilliant pictures. Where is the top one from? Was it in a matchday programme?
From 50 seasons in the 1st division souvenir programme published during the 1967-68 season. Am trying to work out when was the reunion. David Mercer was the first to pass away aged 57 in 1950, then it was Harold Pantling in 1952 (aged 61) and Seth King in 1958 (aged 61)

Crikey - did they all pass away from left to right on the photo like an Agatha Christie plot?

Year they passed away...Sutcliffe (1964), Cook (1974), Milton (1984), Pantling (1952), King (1958), Green (1980), Mercer (1950), Boyle (1972) , Johnson (1981), Gillespie (1981), Tunstall (1971) and finally the player who was the surprise omission , Sampy (1978)

So Milton was the last of the gang to die. Funny how quite a few died in the 1950s but only one died in the 1960s.

Bill Cook (right-back) had also played in the previous FA Cup winning team, 10 years earlier in 1915.
He was still living in Hebburn when playing for us and after his retirement from playing, he and his family moved to Sheffield! Think he owned a shop in Abbeydale Road

Got info from John Garrett..The reunion took place at the Royal Victoria Hotel the night before the game v Hull City on April 29th 1950- the nearest home game to the actual anniversary. Mercer died in Torquay June of that year.We beat Hull 5-0 at the game they attended and the team were taken out on the pitch at half time.

Great photo (the reunion), thanks for that.

Nice to see a later photo of the great Harry Johnson. Amazing to think that after his 201 goals in 313 appearances for us, he managed another 104 goals in 163 appearances for Mansfield! Incredible record.

Wonder why we let him go? Probably sold him for peanuts on transfer deadline day...

This is great, wasn't aware of it. Great photo, too. This is also the last home game prior to my entrance into the world, just as Mr Mercer bowed out.

I think so. That’s why it’s always best to be pictured front row far right, unless you play for an Arabic team.

With the 4th qualifying round of the fa cup draw today. Chesterfield getting afc flyde away. Found out a interesting fact that the last time Chesterfield failed to make the 1st round proper. Was that season 1924/25 & we went on to win our 4th & final cup

There you go fixed it for you :)

So we just need Chessie to lose at Fylde and it's time to give the old suit the once over :)
