Brilliant pictures. Where is the top one from? Was it in a matchday programme?
From 50 seasons in the 1st division souvenir programme published during the 1967-68 season. Am trying to work out when was the reunion. David Mercer was the first to pass away aged 57 in 1950, then it was Harold Pantling in 1952 (aged 61) and Seth King in 1958 (aged 61)Brilliant pictures. Where is the top one from? He was still living in Hebburn when playing for us and after his retirement from playing, he and his family moved to Sheffield! Think he owned a shop in Abbeydale RoadBill Cook (right-back) had also played in the previous FA Cup winning team, 10 years earlier in 1915.
my great grandfather was there.. he was proper ‘blades mad’
Got info from John Garrett..The reunion took place at the Royal Victoria Hotel the night before the game v Hull City on April 29th 1950- the nearest home game to the actual anniversary. Mercer died in Torquay June of that year.We beat Hull 5-0 at the game they attended and the team were taken out on the pitch at half time.
Voted best ever goal scored at the Old Wembley
Apart from Alan Cork’s!
