I was interested to see how our 'well respected coach'* Mr Carver marshalled his troops today. And the rabbit he pulled out the hat was Monty starting at the head of a midfield diamond. Now I know that we've got bugger all by way of options up front, but Monty popping up in Cantona territory? Can't fault the element of surprise. :)

I just wonder how many one - nil victories the fans can take. That's six so far.
The only other win was 3-2 – again by an odd goal.

Wasn't that how speed started out too, with monty pressing high up the pitch?

Are you for real?
I would take another 25 one - nil victories.
Seriously though, in the current situation what do you expect?

That's true, but we sat off Swansea - a tactic we've used before with success - and Montenbauer was the nearest man to Ched.

As such this was a truly brilliant win. :)

I'm not usually a Monty defender but I think slating him today is harsh. I think that he was one of our better players today, set tempo well when we needed a lift and won the ball a few times in dangerous territory. Also took Darren Pratley - someone I consider the best midfielder in the league - out of the game when he came on. Well done Monty!

No criticism was intended - he did well today. I just think winning a game with Ched playing on his own and Monty backing him up is flipping amazing.

A measure of its sheer unlikelihood is the fact Ched was the ONLY United player in their half when he scored. For a home side, in the first half of a match, that's incredible.

Thus it's a huge win.

Actually, when you think about it, technically, using Monty higher up makes a lot of sense. His strength is breaking down opposition play. He couldn't pass the time of day. But get him in when a team is steadying themselves and getting ready to launch an attack, and it *should* be a tactical masterstroke. If he gets the ball, great - we've got the ball in their half. We could use it to our advantage for the 1 out of 10 times it reaches another Blade. If he loses it, it's much less damaging.

I will take 1-0 victories every game of the season! A win is a win - why would anyone be unhappy with winning??

I'm not unhappy with any win, I was meaning it in the sense that I wonder how many one - nil victories our hearts/blood pressure will take.

You judge him by his own very low standards I'm afraid. He was poor as usual. He lost the ball far more often than he won it. His successful tackles led, as ever, to free kicks and throw-ins to the opposition. Oh, and that 5 yard pass into touch on the John St. side! i suppose Elpiton had a good game as well? Our best performers today were Bartley, Noz [apart from the compulsory bombscare], Britton, Reid [if only for the pass that won the match] and Ched [best game so far].

yes he did...especially in the 2nd half

I think that you, sir, have made your mind up about Monty and Quinn.

Both, and admittedly by their usual standards, had good games today. On another thread, I declared Kyle Bartley my man of the match and I raved about Ched on another. I just think it is harsh to have a go at Monty today. You look for the negatives in the fella all the time when actually he was decent today. I thought that Quinn was much more like it second half and showed he cared full time when he was pumping his chest and kissing the badge. We need some of that heart however much you don't like those two lads. Do I think they're the best in the NPC? No. Do I think we need one or both of their spirits to stay in the division? You bet I do.

Pinch, what happens if SOD comes and declares Monty is his first name on the team sheet?

in my humble opinion the masterplan should be too secure reid and bartleys services and then build the team around them and britton.

I have a feeling that he will if he comes in. For a start he's the club captain in Morgs' absence and I could see SOD finding a use for him at first.

Agreed, he could find a use for him but I could see someone like Reid being given the responsibility... but to do that we need to keep him.

Then it would be a very different SOD to the one I'm expecting Raul! I will, however, go along with what SOD decides. I hope Monty's disciples will adopt a similar approach if SOD sells him in January. A sort of SOD Off, you might call it.

That's obvious. Pinchy will add SOD to his list of "know-nowts".

It's known as the 'Blackwell List' SV; after it's founding father.

I'm not sure whether you'll be pleased or saddened to learn that Shorehamview is not a name that features upon it.

Not giving two fucks is the state that springs most readily to mind.:D
