The Housemartins

I think Housemartins and The Beautiful South will always be more associated with Hull than Sheffield but it's not like we don't have plenty of others to choose from. There's nowt wrong with Def Leppard, sure some of their stuff hasn't aged that well but Pyromania and Hysteria are still great records and they're still by far our biggest musical export. Rick Allen was also single handedly the greatest drummer of the 80's as well.

Always thought this would be a good tune to come out to or have in the pre match build up.

Decent intro but I'm afraid it leaves me completely dead when the heavy metal tight trousers vocals kick in. I know JE is a Blade so is Sean Bean and I wouldn't fancy listening to him either.

Everton have stick with Z Cars all these years so Ilkley Moor bah't at would be fine by me (the 'traditon' outweighs the West Yarkshire sheep shagging thing).

I can't really think of anything else Sheffield/Blades related that would work though. I hate the generic one we have at the minute that is probably used by about fifty other clubs across the country. 'United' by Judas Priest although not generally Sheffield related is a song that i think is more associated with us than any other club (mancs included). That's the one that always gets the blood pumping, rather just have that to be honest than bloody Kasabian.

I can't believe some are getting the Ched stick to beat Paul Heaton with - he's always been a blade. Whereas Ched fucking Evans really couldn't give a rats arse as long as he's getting paid. Personally I agreed with the lot - Charlie Webster,Jessica Ennis and Paul Heaton. Whatever he did or didn't do his and OUR name was dragged through the fucking mud because of HIM> no one else - not them three - ched fucked up - couldn't keep his dick in his pants. Yet lo and behold he scores a few goals and for some that's a free pass. Can I remind everyone his (and they were his) indiscretions arguably cost us promotion
Ol Red Eyes for me

I'm one of the few who still prefers the first two albums. I didn't really rate the commercial stadium rock stuff.

Not a big fan of soft bollocks but don't mind a bit of Def Leppard. I'm with whoever mentioned Cabaret Voltaire - Tyler Durden??

Agree partly with what u say about ched because he is the root. But ennis, heaton, webster, that tosser clegg went way over the top with unnecessary comments.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned "Section 60" who are definitely Blades fans.
I heard a rumour that they were involved with the hooligan element which would be a no-no for me but that might not even be true?

No the first two abums are good too, very raw compared to the heavily produced stuff that followed though. I think Pete Willis was a big part of their sound on those early albums, very underrated guitarist and a major influence on Dimebag Darrell from Pantera if i remember correctly. They changed after he left. Pyromania is their best imo, Hysteria is good but has a little too much cheese everything after that is pretty terrible.

I'm guessing you won't be wanting any Housemartins or Beautiful South at the lane then?;)

Yes, big fan of Pete's guitar work. He also co-wrote some of Pyromania. I've got the first three on vinyl and saw them on the Pyromania tour.

Quite like def leopard and Beautiful south also. and i dont mind the housemartins, im an easy bloke to please musically.

Weekend of TC's testimonial I was in manchester walking past a football field close to The International club where the Housemartins were playing that night on the Friday. Went over to watch and saw it was The Housemartins having a kick about. Paul Heaton came over and said "wanna play mate, we are one short". Joined in. Norman Cook wasn't bad, Heaton was good, the other two crap. After Half hour it ended and he asked who I supported. I told him and he showed me a ring with the club crest on it, and offered me two places on that nights guest list.

Saturday night I came over to sheffield and saw them at the old Poly. Saw him at the taxi rank by the station after and he came over and asked if I got in alright. He had no need to do any of that and was very genuine.

Didn't get me in for TC's testimonial though and from memory he played right back, after doing his three songs before Black Lace.

Genuinely think he was just a genuine Blade like any of us at the time.
