The good ship Ched has sailed...

I don't know why he gets afforded so much love by some people and why they seem to adore him more than other players who have genuinely achieved for this club.

It'd take a situation where there's injuries or suspensions to nearly all the other strikers and he comes in and plays a blinder and then keeps it up there after.

Can only assume that you stopped going to matches in 2012.

He was far and away the best player in league 1, better striker than Jordan Rhodes, the best all round striker since Brian Deane.
Those facts naturally mean he has earnt some adulation.

It’s as though some of our fan base have pre determined agendas and have developed amnesia regards that season.
I admit to having doubts about his comeback but at the moment Wilder has done enough to earn our trust.
If Wilder thinks he can do a job then that’s good enough for me.

You've got six months...
We're looking at replacing you with a nondescript nonentity from Germany, possibly of Dutch origin.
Anne Frank's recommended him...

Six months? Thats a long time to have to wait for my huge lump sum and a lifetime of punditry afterwards.

What the hell ! there's still time for him to turn into Messi, overnight! I'm counting on him scoring all the goals to promotion. Theres a loud load of fans that think that is going to happen! I'm going with them!

Not true, not won the Champions League yet #goguiseley

If you aren't taking control of F.C. United of Manchester with the aim of winning more trophies than Man U then you aren't doing Football Manager right.

The latest one is pretty hard. I could balls up Real Madrid I think.

For me the latest one's even better. Now you can do the same challenge with F.C. United of Manchester AND Salford City F.C.!

I'm currently aiming to have both completed before the year 2300 which of course is the year that Cyborg Sir Alex Ferguson is pencilled in to make a come back to management, gain sentience and take over the world.

My source say he’s actually one of the LOWEST paid players in the squad
But with massive performance related bonuses attached.
You’re obviously bias so don’t want to see truth.

Despite what your sources say, which I obviously have no reason to doubt *cough*. He still cost us 500k on top of those wages. Considering none of our players will earn that alone over the season, he is still one of our most expensive outlays his season, however you want to dress it up.

But you’re obviously biased so don’t want to see the truth.

I take it that Leon Clark is no longer the scapegoat

Fair point.
I suppose it depends on the definition of “expensive”.
You think 500K is expensive whereas I think 500K is inexpensive when you consider what we get if the gamble pays off.

I really don't understand the Ched fan-boys. He was good for us one for one season, 6/7 years ago. If he comes good for us again, great. But the calls to get him in the team and general sentiment that surrounds him from sections of our fanbase are way over the top.

Totally agree.

The timing of the media leaked news of his return wasn't great but it appears to have been a small financial risk, and like most I'd love to see him get some reward.

Apart from a few flashes here and there, he's not shown too much apart from effort but how much injury has hampered him who knows.

The thing is though if he's still here this time next season unable to get on the pitch, you know many of our fans will still be saying he needs time, he'll come good etc.

Nothing wrong in supporting players at all, it's just a shame some of those who won't have a bad word said about Ched, don't have the same mindset with some of our other players.

Jack I can assure I’m no fan boy.
In fact I don’t even like Ched as a person and thought he was on course to be one of our most wasteful signings ever.

Assume you didn’t go to matches in 2012 because he wasn’t good for a season.
He was good for the first 6 months, then was fantastic (the best striker I’ve seen in a Blades short since Brian Deane) for the final 4 months.
He was far far better than what Sharp or Leon produced last season in league 1.

There’s no sentiment from the club, it’s a common sense business deal agreed by Wilder.

Do you admit that Chris Wilder probably has more idea about ability/ fitness/ potential of our squad than you?

Of course I did and yes he was great to watch during that period. On that last point though, Sharp and Leon helped us to 100 points and the league title, without dragging the club's name through the mire in the process.

I just feel the sentiment of that short period is misplaced, he's done nothing (yet) to show he's the same player since getting back into the game but I always see people on here or Twitter calling for him to be in the team.

And obviously not, not sure what gives that impression.

Could you define what a proven striker is to you, it's a phrase I've read lots of times on the forum so just curious.

Ta.

Someone who has a goal scoring record in the last 3/4 years. Won't be cheap. 10 or so goals a year +

Of course for younger players its more of a gut feeling but I'd rather we went for a 26 year old type striker.

He was a one season wonder

The challenge first and foremost is for him to prove his fitness, something he’s not been able to do now for well over a year. That’s something that’s going to have to be worked out at U23 level, because the reality is he has 4 fully fit strikers ahead of him all of whom could make the case for starting at the minute – not only limiting his starts but also gametime from the bench. And that’s without throwing Brooks into the mix assuming he will return as an option playing off the striker.

The situation above can change with injury and suspension. He will also very likely get at least half an hour this evening. If he manages to stay fit and show some form in the U23s (as Brooks for example has shown in his recovery) we can maybe think about upgrading him from his 5th choice position. Only the obsessive Chedmaniacs, led by Brian the Blade, are seriously calling for him to start any meaningful games for us. Most are sensible enough to recognise that there is virtually no justification for it. Perhaps if we aren’t in contention for the playoffs towards the end of the season we can give him more opportunities, as we would a youth player. But we’re not there yet. He faces a steep climb to become a starter for us. It’s not impossible, but it’s unlikely.

He’s just about the most expensive player in our squad!

He's done alright changed the game in league cup v walsall i remember & deserved all the plaudits. But i said how i didnt understand the ched histeria on sporting terms (everyone has personal views but we avoid that). How people were treating him like Mother Theresa just turned up, for basically a 1 season wonder which previous 2 yrs 13 from 67 & at Chesterfield 5 from 25. But from some fans he got a better reception than some of the players that got us promotion. Which was harsh

for all the stick we got for resigning him. We were highly unlikely to ever "break even" & make the signing worthwhile

he'll come on as sub against derby in the play-of final ,when it goes to pens he'll take one and score and I'll drag this thread up again .you heard it here first.

Football has come a long way in the championship since we were last in it. I think the general standard has significantly increased mainly due to more money filtering down from the Prem or more teams being prepared to take a gamble to get to the big time.

I think Ched will always find it hard to get back to the level he needs to when we don't have the luxury of giving anyone a few games to find their form. It was a big ask for him to get back to where he was anyway and injuries just add to the issues.

He won't be involved with us in the future.

It took him a season and a bit to get going last time.

Does lightning strike twice?
yes ;)
same people writing billy off before last week .. they need a new target for ‘football manager’ shennanigins .. they’re always getting rid of somebody .. at least it’s not Samir this time

Given we have some decent operators doing transfers and contracts these days, I can’t see that is anything but correct.
