I was one of the people desperate to sign Ched in the summer and seriously thought he pissed rainbows and the sun shone out of his arse.

I think I have finally given up hope that he will be a big player for us - given his game time in the 23s etc. he's not looked good enough to challenge Billy, Leon, Wilson, Clayton.

I have been desperate for him to score every time he plays for old time's sake more than anything - but I can now actually admit as I think a number of other fans need to - that the ship has sailed for big Ched...

Happy and hopeful to be proved wrong.

I didn't see the signing being a great one for us but I certainly wasn't against it, just on the off chance he found some old form and became that 35 goal a season ched again (albeit in league 1) I hope I'm wrong like you said but I can't see him breaking into the team now . Hope he does well at a lower level IF it doesn't work out for him here

Not seen any of the U23s but I have been waiting for the headline about Ched being back in business, sadly not happened yet. Still time, but like the OP it's looking like a calculated gamble that just isn't going to pay off. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that ! Won't be the only signing that's not worked out

I was annoyed we signed him when we did as it distracted from our best season in years last year, but I understand Wilder saw potential.

I don't know why we didn't send him out on loan in Jan? If he is 5th choice, send him out to league 1 and see how he does. Or maybe nobody wanted him?

Still living off 2012 season sadly. Onwards and upwards.

Because of how we have played and where we are in the league he’s become a luxury signing and not a miss for me.

I hope we can get him fit and ready so he can continue playing football somewhere else.

Don't write him off. He's been injured, and our other strikers have been performing well. I can see him getting some playing time tonight.

He’s still building up his fitness isn’t he?...be good to have someone like him if only to available from the bench.
Can I be the first to say in this particular thread.....GLTTL !! :D

Thing is though - the bench is already near enough full without him on it; Lundstram, Brooks (when he returns), Wilson, Donaldson, Leonard, Wright, Freeman (when he returns) - can't see him getting close to be honest.

They expected to have Ched back sooner but he had an infection after his operation.

I think he can still come good for us but it seems like it won’t be this season.

Anyone with half a brain could see it was going to pan out this way. We need a proven striker in the summer and I suspect he, along with lavery + Hanson are gone.

Do you go to the U23s games? I was at Ipswich and thought he played well.

If we released him in summer, what level do you think he would be picked up at? He would be lucky to have a League 2 take a punt on him and that’s all you need to know about where he is.

We seem to get these posts every week.

Evans needs time but I would expect him to show something towards the latter end of the season.

Why are our fans so quick to write off our players.
It’s been Coutts, then Leon, then Duffy, then Sharp, then back to Leon.
The latest players that are poor and have no future are Ched and James Wilson.
Just be patient and give them time to prove themselves.

True but he’s a educated low risk gamble that could pay big dividends.

The Ched recruitment is (exagerrating abit) a bit like spending a £1 on a lottery ticket.
Low chance of chance but low outlay.
If the gamble works fine, if it doesn’t work then we’ve not lost much.
Makes sense to me, he’s still young, had very little football wear and tear and was fantastic for us during his final 6 months.

I really don't understand the Ched fan-boys. He was good for us one for one season, 6/7 years ago. If he comes good for us again, great. But the calls to get him in the team and general sentiment that surrounds him from sections of our fanbase are way over the top.

Which is an argument that has got to me. He wasn’t a low cost gamble. He’s just about the most expensive player in our squad! (With the possible exception of 1 or 2). Think about how much better we could have invested that money.

I hated everything about this signing and can’t wait until we part ways. It’s been a complete waste of our already very limited funds.

Jack I can assure I’m no fan boy.
In fact I don’t even like Ched as a person and thought he was on course to be one of our most wasteful signings ever.

Assume you didn’t go to matches in 2012 because he wasn’t good for a season.
He was good for the first 6 months, then was fantastic (the best striker I’ve seen in a Blades short since Brian Deane) for the final 4 months.
He was far far better than what Sharp or Leon produced last season in league 1.

There’s no sentiment from the club, it’s a common sense business deal agreed by Wilder.

Do you admit that Chris Wilder probably has more idea about ability/ fitness/ potential of our squad than you?

I don't know why he gets afforded so much love by some people and why they seem to adore him more than other players who have genuinely achieved for this club.

It'd take a situation where there's injuries or suspensions to nearly all the other strikers and he comes in and plays a blinder and then keeps it up there after for him to get in the side and stay in it. It's hard to see that happening, and even his most lovestruck fawners must see that!

My source say he’s actually one of the LOWEST paid players in the squad
But with massive performance related bonuses attached.
You’re obviously bias so don’t want to see truth.
