Honestly thought he was possibly the best player on the park today. He was busy, his control and first touch were first class, he played some nice balls and linked up well, but questions remain over his fitness and work rate and remarkably he is still yet to score for us.

I wouldn't knock Billy, but he's had a stinker today.

Maybe with better players around him he'd shine, but there isn't-so he can do all his neat little touches and turns somewhere else because we need a creative player who creates chances and preferably gets 12 goals a season too.

Reckon he's been great the last couple of weeks - bursting forwards, incisive passing, playing at tempo, providing assists, shooting whenever he got the chance to.

Today he was back to his worst IMO. Elegant & cultured on the ball, but bottle-less & having zero positive influence on the game. Lovely to look at in a way, but pointless really when he's like this.

Hes wank o_O Give your head a wobble and learn how to play football.

What does he actually do?? He's got a good touch......and?? He does nothing positive with the ball, and without it he's a liability. If you think he's a good player, expect a few more seasons in league one.

Do you go ,if so the question 'what does he do' is ridiculous. Without him moving the ball we would be and have been a very static slow team.

Decent player when he wants to be. He was good on the right when Adkins gave him 3/4 games in that position. He was average today, but certainly not a bad player. Wouldn't mind if he got sold, but not a bad player in certain games.

I'm going to have to disagree with you all apart from sitwell and partly Alfreton14Blade. For me one of the best moments of the game was where he took an awkward high ball down, controlled it and laid it off to one of our players in one fluid movement. If Billy could have controlled the ball like that today, he'd probably have scored a hat-trick.

He's wank. Doesn't score, assist or tackle. Waste of time. We need much much better next season.

Coutts and Brayford are two class quality players , with better players around them they will both excell . If both can keep fit , have a good preseason we will reap the benefits next season.

Jury may be out on Adkins from me , but not on Coutts and Brayford . Them 2 and Billy are the only class we have got in a pile of mediocrity . Remember that Baps bloke is only on loan.

Hammond , well is Hammond.

Trying to be positive .

Said it before, if the ball comes within two feet of him he looks a good player, any further away he struggles and isn't bothered...

This thread is a disgrace. No need for racist slurs.

Of course he isn't an enigma.

All about opinions mate, but he's played alongside Baxter and was still poor. The fact is he doesn't work hard enough and creates very little. Surely all these midfield partners can't all be making him look bad. As for Brayford, he's been poor ever since he signed permanently. Decent bloke but not the player he was (injuries aren't helping him admittedly). Like I say, all about opinions though.

We are going to have to agree to disagree on this. I think Reed offers more than coutts (tin hat on). He just doesn't do enough for me. Most of his passes are sideways or backwards. We need a whole new midfield next season in my opinion.

Coutts is technically our best player, yet remains frustratingly short on work rate. Looked injured last season and unfit for a lot of this one, but he's very steadily improving, I'd say.

Like with a number of our players, the late upturn in form will give Adkins a headache about whether to stick or twist with them.

There in lies a problem though. The alternative to Coutts in the middle is Reed.

It's an area we must strengthen over the summer.

If Coutts was in a midfield along side a young Michael Brown type he would be exactly what we need. If we are looking for a player to play alongside Hammond next season then that would be a problem.

I suspect Adkins thinks that with a summer of fitness-building his stamina could be built up to the level required. We're unlikely to find a club willing to buy him if he's on a fairly high wage in my opinion – I think we'll see him involved in next season's squad. His total lack of threat in front of goal though is a huge concern, as we desperately need more goals from midfield.

Not been today for various reasons including that my wife and all her family are from Barnsley and I don't want a row, so slaughter me for commentating. But Coutts has struck me this season as someone who can play football, but after a season and a half of recuperation he is still short of pace and above all desire. Yes he's now showing he is technically good but IMHO simply not good enough. Someone said he was an enigma. I described Murphy as such and look how he turned out. Sometimes for Enigma read "inconsistent". The story of our season.

I said he was an enigma because he appears to have the attributes of a really good player, great skill and ball control, but has also attracted a fair amount of criticism for his fitness, work rate and lack of goals. Looking at the posts already, he's certainly divisive!

I agree with with that ,Hammond is the problem but one it looks like we are stuck with. Adkins must not pursue his obsession with him ,he is an awful excuse for a footballer.

remarkably he is still yet to score for us.

Let's ponder how remarkable that is. To score goals from midfield you need the energy and drive to get into goalscoring positions. Even Monty outscored Coutts and did so at a higher level. Half the talent, a hundred times the application.

Coutts is far better than he was a year ago, but amount of money we must have paid him to reach this level of continued inadequacy is quite terrifying.
