I say 'my room' because, as far as I'm aware, I'm the only person who's thought about this. I'm sure it's crossed the minds of others, though.

There is a rather large club in this country which is currently massively underperforming. A club that needs every single player to want to lay their lives on the line for the badge as Wilder makes our lads do. A club which is, in relative terms, in complete disarray in this moment in time.

That club is Manchester United, and the perfect man to take them back to what they wish to be again is Our Chris.

I sincerely hope that their big-wigs are thick enough to continue down the path of employing 'big names', and that they never give our gaffer a second glance. But I can't shake the feeling that he would be a perfect fit for them. It'd also be a very difficult job to turn down, Blade or not.

Just imagine for a moment how he could sort that lot out; kicking out the dickheads regardless of their wages and giving the talent a chance. I'd love to be wrong, but I can see it happening.

We already know he has the managerial nous to take a side forward. Surely it'd be naive of us to ignore the eyes of other clubs? Particularly those who desperately need a bloke like him?

We also know that Wilder likes a long-term project. Could owt be more long-term than Man U in their current state?

Funny post, this. I'm looking for people to say they've had the same idea but I'm also crying out for people to say I'm being stupid and say that Wilder is here to stay. I suppose it kinda poses the awkward question of 'Are there any bigger clubs than mine?'...Is there a bigger job out there for him regardless of his affiliation with us?

They have made catastrophic error after catastrophic error from managing director level to tea lady in terms of how to manage a football club for the last 6 years. They also have an enormous ego and chip on their shoulders that would prevent them even mentioning Chris Wilder’s name, let alone approaching him. Throw in the fact that Eddie Howe would be way ahead of him in ‘english Managers with column inches written about them’. He would get murdered by the media. He would never get time. He wouldn’t be signing his own players, he would be conforming to whatever the chief scout/director of football gave him, which wouldn’t appeal to him I don’t think. Forget the checklist, he’d say ‘I want a left footed central midfielder’ and would be given one from Lyon or Gent that he’s never heard of, let alone has identified himself. They would be on more a week than he paid for Jack O’Connell.

I have absolutely no faith they would make the right decision by even considering him.

Chris is far too intelligent to throw all he's achieved away on moving to a basket-case club to put right the mistakes of others. Stupid twats like Bruce, Harry Maguire etc. believe the hype, move upward 🙄 and are shown up.

Nothing to do with 'ambishun', our fans will forgive CW/AK for the inevitable disappointments to come - 'fans' of WBA/Sunderland/whoever the hacks may use to fill their rags wouldn't give him a fortnight, because they think 'their club' has a God-given right to success.

To (semi-quote) Akinbiyi 'File under greedy twats like the Cowley Brothers who shit on their fans for a h'aporth of silver.'

I can imagine a possible scenario being Man U come in for Poch and Spurs go for Wilder. Or Southgate moves to club football and there will be a large clamour for either Dyche or Wilder.

Then it's down to Chris. Never been sacked anywhere. Why would he not back himself.

Of he could, as the Prince says, be the Alex Ferguson and manage his Blades until retirement. As mentioned never been sacked so why would he not be able to do that either?

Sean Dyche and Eddie Howe are ahead of Chris in the 'successful British managers' stakes.

Manchester United's radar won't go anywhere near them.

Personally I think Man Utd could end up embroiled in the bottom end of the table. No one should fear them now.

You think Chris Wilder would put up with uber-cunt Pogba? Within an hour the club would be fighting with itself. Man U have egos. Egos so big that the players run the club. On that basis, it's a no.

I mentioned it on another thread the other day with a similarly nondescript thread title, that basically now i believe, due to the way we're adapting to the big scary premier league, there are certain clubs that we can discount Wilder from looking at.

Either due to their poor ownership structure, the downward trajectory that they're on or the fact that simply being in the big money league now, we're on a level footing with them financially, so they become less attractive than staying at the most progressive club in the division.

I'd say that we can limit our fears to the top 8. Liverpool and Man City can immediately be removed from that list as they are on a different level. However, Arsenal, Man United, Everton, Spurs, Chelsea and probably Leicester all provide similar ambitions.

Things aren't particularly rosy at all of them but Leicester and its perhaps unlikely that Chelsea will sack Frank this season.

Things would need to now go badly at United for Wilder for him to consider anything else, even from that list, but there is a temptation.

As for Man U, yes they're a risk, but as others have said i think Pochettino is the more likely successor at Man U

Final point on England. I don't think its a particularly coveted job as a stepping stone for managers on their way up. Wilder has also not spent enough time in the Premier League for him to be 1st choice English manager ahead of Dyche and Howe.

Good piece.

For me, the reasons you give for why he'd get the job are the reasons why he wont get the job. I just don't think their board have the minerals to take a chance like that. They will revert to type and go the Pochettino / Ancelotti route. Secondly, even though again you are right it's what they need, I just think things are to ingrained there for the player culture to change. The days of a Fergie ruling with a rod of iron are gone. Now the tail wags the dog.

If he succeeds in keeping us up, think he will want to stay, and the Prince and his cohorts might be chucking iin a bit of cash, to keep us established. If we get relegated, Man Utd will not want him.

I think the only way Chris leaves is if The Prince doesn’t back him financially. Back him and he will stay. If say Spurs came in for him, let’s be honest would you begrudge him that kind of move?

You think Chris Wilder would put up with uber-cunt Pogba? Within an hour the club would be fighting with itself. Man U have egos. Egos so big that the players run the club. On that basis, it's a no.

No, he wouldn't. Which is exactly what they need. Fuck people like Pogba off and field players who'll put everything on the line for him, as Wilder's teams do.

Any PL club could come in and take him, I'd say an upper mid-table club like Everton would be more tempting for him and for them as they have taken a bit of a chance in the past.

I personally don't think Man Utd are the team that we should worry about, far too much ego involved in and around the club.

Nayow I think he's too straight talking for them, they want a yes man. Fair point about if Poch went there and Spurs came in though... especially if they're lining up Southgate, feels like Wilder could be the next option. But fuck Cockneys

To paraphrase Jim Phipps ‘ think Brian Clough’ like Clough, Wilder builds teams that play for him and fit into his style of play. If Clough had been tempted away from forest by Man U would they give him the time to dismantle the team and build it his way? Not a chance. My only (slight) worry is that AK is tempted away by a championship team.

You should tell that wipe over on PorkTalk to tell their fans. He's on for the hattrick after telling Villa and Everton fans

Never happening.

Could see CW managing the likes of Everton or Villa or Newcastle in a year or two if board room shenanigans piss him off here.

But Man U...? no chance they would even consider an English manager already in his early 50s

This thread is a bit embarrassing. Think we’re getting a bit carried away.
If you work away and meet any Man Utd or Spurs, then ask them if their club might appoint Wider and there would be so much laughter.

Agree with the above. Dyche and Howe are far higher rated than Wilder and none of the big 6 are interested in them.
The fans of the top clubs aren’t remotely interested in Chris Wilder.

The only way this is change is if he wins silverware with Sheff United or regularly beats top 6 sides and gets us into the top 6.
And even then there would be doubts. Basically Wilder has a long long way to go yet before being even considered for the top jobs.

As mentioned above if Wilder does really well and has us finishing in the top half for 2 or 3 years challenging for a Europe League spot
Then the biggest realistic jobs he might be offered in 2 or 3 years is an Everton, Villa or Newcastle.
Even then I don’t think Everton would lower themselves, they are ambitious and want a big name manager.
Think it’s only at Villa where he’d get support from the fans because they remember how good Wilder was in the Championship.

To be honest whilst ever we’re in the PL I can’t see him going anywhere for a few years yet.

Now that categorically will not happen.
Which is why I said slight. Things change quickly in football but personal I don’t think the club has been in a better position ( on and off the pitch) in my life time.

Regarding “column inches” there’s only “one game in town” at the moment. The assembled mass media can’t get enough of our Chrissie, he so approachable even more quotable and his method of management and tactics have enriched so many (previously boring) Premier league discussions. Also Eddie Howe has already failed ( Burnley) away from Bournemouth and I don’t think he’s ever been dubbed the “English Guardiola.”
Even taking the Mancs out of the equation, there are other potential suitors with owners who could look towards Wilder, Newcastle and Everton could be making a change very soon and the fact Wilder is an undoubted winner, you have wonder when that “knock on the door” will inevitably come.

I'd love Wilder to be here for the foreseeable future, but alas, the more success we have the more that seems less possible. The guy is a winner. If we fail to match his ambitions for the club and in the transfer market he will inevitably be dragged away. The only two clubs I could see Wilder going to though are Everton or Villa. Both truly big clubs with a huge fan base and the potential to take Chris where he wants to go. I think he would also get a bit of time there to build his team and get his ethos through to the players.

I think Wilder places fulfilling ambitions before money, but come on, it must be hard to turn down possibly quadrupling your wages in the process!

I've said before, the only club CW will leave is for is Manchester United, and i believe if and when they sack Ole they will come for CW as their next manager.

Let's hope it's a long way off
