The effect of VAR next season

If and when we reach the PL we face a real positive that should help us stay up.
VAR will be introduced for the 1st time next season in the Premier League.

The last time we were in the PL in 2007, it was common that refs felt the pressure from home fans and were biased towards the big 6. Anyone remember the late Luton Shelton refused penalty away at Old Trafford.

The reason why the big 6 receive favourable decisions is because they do most of the attacking and generally dominate the match, so refs tend to apply a “natural justice” and eventually give them game changing decisions.

However next season we could see matches where we play Liverpool at Anfield and they are all over us, having loads of penalty decisions turned down through VAR, then near the end we have a rare attack and win a penalty through VAR.

In the past if we are are totally being outplayed away at Anfield, then there’s no way that the ref would give us a late penalty for any reason, especially if he’d previously refused Liverpool penalty shouts.

VAR will level up be playing field and means to a degree, the big 6 lose their advantage.

Or maybe we'll end up not having goals given to us because of players blocking defenders when our attacking players make runs into the box from a corner

For example, Hull were saying that we were blocking off their players to allow Didsy to run free and head the ball into the net from the corner

The refs will just decide it isn't needed. As for the big six losing their advantage, you must have some cracking drugs available

Yeah, but on the flip side, having to have every fekkin goal reviewed before we can celebrate or commiserate is going to be fekkin annoying.

In the past the bigger clubs have most of the attacks and tended to receive more favourable decisions
You’ve heard the old cliche, the opposition never receive penalties (unless they are 100% clear) away at Man Utd or Liverpool.

Now it’s a more level playing field, we are much more likely to win penalties away at the massive clubs.
It’s not going to make that much difference but every little helps, remember last time we went down on goal difference.

I remember when we lost 0.1 away at West Ham before Xmas I think in 2007 and Del Geary seemed to have a perfectly good equaliser ruled out in the dying minutes. There didn't seem to be any explanation. It wasn't offside. a point there would have kept us up. Water under the bridge now. If we d go up next season will be tough. Hopefully we can do a Wolves rather than a Fulham but you have to spend big! No way around that.

To be fair it we had VAR last season we were in the Prem we would have comfortably stayed up.

IF we go up it will be interesting to be part of the great VAR experiment.
